No, Grace is always recaptured, despite your efforts. It happens some time between acts one and two. If you speak to her, she'll comment about how you let them go 'without food or water' or some such, basically blaming you for the fact that she wasn't prepared to go on the run.
I really wanted to have dialogue with her so I could tell her off. I helped her by lying to the Templars. I wasn't going to kill them for simply doing their job, and it's not like I had time to gather supplies for her.

I think the bottom line is, you killed her lover (Decimus) and she always harbored a grudge against you for that. The rest struck me as just projection on her part; she was in a ****ty situation, and you were a distinct person to hate. She already hated the templars, but nothing you could have done short of annihilating the order would have made her happy.

Not true. In my play through she escaped and later I had to fight her and some rebels along with Thrask in act 3.
If you have a save in Act 2, load it up and go to the Gallows. You'll find her standing next to Alaine. Click on her and you'll hear her venting her frustrations at you while you stand there and take it.

Exactly. You killed her lover = You need to die. Thats the whole reason she is in the rebellion in Act 3. Lure the Champion into a trap, kill him and then kill every templar around.
Poor Thrask. He deserved something better than that.

Ugh, why was Grace so hung up on Decimus anyway? I saw him during that cutscene in Act of Mercy. He's hideous...and really old...even tossing aside all the blood magic, he's still just...ew.
Decimus likely used blood magic on Grace to make her his thrall.

Meh... Grace wasn't exactly the most beautiful woman herself
"We cannot live under the oppression of the chantry! Hear my word! Blood magic is the only way to reach true freedom!"
"You're sooooo hawt, Decimus!"

Yeah, it's heavily implied that the templars sexually abuse the mages, in addition to keeping them locked up in tiny, lightless stone rooms all day, but sure, the "poor" templars are too "demonized."
Yeah and how many rumors turn out to be blatant falsehoods?

I wouldn't be so sceptical of these rumors though. Just look at how the Templars treat the mages openly! I'd hate to see what's done behind closed doorsThe Angry One wrote...

I've heard the rumors, but I met two bad templars (and one of them was being influenced by an evil idol)... how many mages tried to kill you, summon demons, or useblood magic... or fund experiments that are rather deterimental to Hawke's family life.

Some Templars are rotten, but there are also good ones, which is more than can be said for the mages who turn out to be blood mages, serial killers and abominations one and all.

Heh, must be nice to be able to wilfully ignore things.
