I lived in Paris, France for a semester and I have to say Leliana's French accent does sound fake...Maybe it's a better Quebecois accent? I don't know, just saying it didn't sound French. It sounded like somebody trying to sound French.

I mean, just because somebody is French doesn't mean they can do a good French accent when speaking another language. Like, I'm a native Chinese speaker, but I speak English too with no accent. However, if you ask me to try to speak English with a Chinese accent, I probably would sound pretty stupid.

That said it is still better than EVERY OTHER attempt at a French accent in the game. Especially the Comtesse de Launcet's....<shudder>

Ha... okay. Just thought she had to sound authentic since she is french. Maybe I'm biased because I'm german. It's hard to suppress our accent... and it always sounds horrible Image IPB

I think Sebastian's reaction was understandable, but I kind of lol'ed when he said: "If it were me inside the Chantry, would you hesitate [to kill Anders]?" because my thought was "I don't see how that would change anything about how I feel about the situation." Somebody sure thinks a lot of himself...

If Sebastian had been inside the Chantry, I would have asked Anders for the honor of pushing the detonation button... errr... staff.

This.  I actually laughed out loud when he said that.

She was raised in Paris.

My point is, raised in Paris or not, she probably speaks flawless English with no accent, and she had to try to bring the French accent into her English.  It sounds counterintuitive, but even if you speak French or any language natively, as long as you become good enough at another language to speak it without your native accent, it is actually hard to deliberately affect your native accent when you don't already have one.  Like I said, this I know from personal experience:  I was born and raised in China, and I still can't do English with a Chinese accent.   I'm certainly not saying that it's always impossible for someone to do, just that in this case I don't think Corinne Kempa pulled it off.  Although, she definitely pulled it off better than everybody else in dragon age.

TL'DR: To me personally, listening to Leliana speak and from listening to French people in France speaking English to me, the two don't sound the same.  You might disagree.  I'm just saying that's what I hear.

Dear Sebastian:

Please ask Bioware to find you a better voice actor. Your Scottish accent is horrible, and you sound like you're trying to sing but just don't know how.

Yeah really, they should've hired some American to do a fake Scottish accent, not this Alec Newman guy.

Leliana's accent was incredibly fake too.

And yes, how many would have disliked him even more if he just shot Anders at the spot, something that Anders seemed perfectly ready to accept, in fact he seems to prefer it.

I think Varric's American accent sounded most fakest of them all.

I really like Leliana's accent, I dont care whether its real or fake, its awesome :) . Varric just sounds normal to me, I dont know what would be fake about normal, but once again, if its fake-normal its still normal, and thus cool. Two of my favorite voices in the game.

Leliana's actress is a French woman who lived among Brits for a while, just as Leliana did. It is nothing less than perfect.

Sebastian and Anders... I like both of them. I really do. Both are flawed, both are human, both are deeply passionate about the worlds they know. In a world where mages and templars were at peace, they could be friends. What happens during the course of the game is a tragedy for everyone.

This.  This is why I am tad worried about too many Orlesians in DA3 or DLC or whatever...  Its hard to fake your accent back in another language.

As a French person, Leliana does not sound fake to me.  Its a little bit more pronounced than most French to English speakers BUT she is a voice actress and its part of the job.  That said not that many actors can do that easily.  It will always sound a little fake.. after all real accent fluctuates with emotions for example.  I know I loose my english if I am angry or really happy about something.

Accents. Who gives a toss? Not me. If I can understand them with sufficient ease, the sound of their voice is less important. Of course, there are voices comparable to nails on a blackboard, but that's another case for another day.

To me, the voices helped identify the characters. And the ones I -re- heard from DA:O was priceless, Leliana in particular. She's sure come up in the world. :)

A bit disappointed that the game finished so quickly(and it seemed to me the chanters board was worse than pointless), but looking all the more forward to the (hopefully -much- larger/longer/bigger-in-all-respects) third chapter.

Hm. as I haven't explored the news in that direction yet, my imagination conjures up images of a party with the hero of fereleden and the champion of Kirkwall as backups...which again makes me wonder if there might not be a fourth game to come, making the party for the endgame legendary indeed. :)

Maria Hawke would have begged to do it.  She had already caught on (whereas I, the player only caught on when he asked for help doing the hiding in the Chantry part).  So much for being a diplomat....

There is the "bad Hollywood" French accent. The "bad Hollywood" German accent. And the "bad Hollywood" Russian accent. I know people from France who speak English and don't sound like that. My best friend is from Germany and doesn't sound like that. I also had a neighbor from Russia who didn't sound like that.

If they had people playing the parts who sounded like real people, we Americans wouldn't know which accent it was because we're expecting the "bad Hollywood" (fill in the blank) accent.

So it is with a Scottish accent.

Although I have to admit Claudia Black does a wonderful Aussie accent. Oh Doh! She IS an Aussie. And I hope she has a part in ME3 or at least in DA3.

I've never seen Sebastian's rant because I always murder knife Anders.  This has nothing to do with Sebastian who I was rather disappointed in as a character since he undergoes so little character development in the game compared to the other companions.  (maybe I need to do him on rivalry and try to convince him to go be prince).
And why does having faith in a higher power always seem to translate to 'religious freak' to people?  It's not like Sebastian thumps you on the head with an Andrastian bible and tells you you're going to hell because you don't think like he does.  He just believes in a higher power and it gives him comfort.  What's wrong with that?
He has lost his family to an ambitious **** and then saw the last of his family (he has spent more than half his life in the chantry with Elthina taking on a motherly role) blown to kingdom come.
Maybe he should call for a prayer circle and pray for Anders's soul...wait...no I just offed the abomination like I have every other abomination in the game.  Never mind...
Frankly, I was hoping for Nathaniel Howe to be a companion in DA2, not Anders and not Sebastian.

Sebastian doesn't need Starkhaven, he has 11 thousand gold in the bank. So he may as well go and buy Andraste's statue and fondle that, or wait for the A team zealot Liliana. Sebastian's gift sould of been a soap box and tambourine. (or left him for the night with some one who likes working hard).

Wait, people are actually getting pissed at Sebastian ranting? It fit perfectly and helped swayed my views. His family was murdered and then the one place he found peace was blown up killing Elthina in the process.

I don't have a problem with Sebstian ranting or leaving. It's in-line with his character and it also means he didn't learn anything that Elthina was trying to teach him.

Anything that goes against the PC's wishes will make that character the worst one. You can actually tell which character will be the most unpopular by how often they disagree with the player.

Personal experience proves nothing. I was born, raised and lived most of my life in Spain. My accent when talking in English is there but faded enough to make people confused about my background. And I can tell you that Antivan accent sounds a lot, a lot, like a Spaniard´s one with some mafioso attitude.

You basically draw on your personal experience to consider an accent fake. I draw on mine to tell you the opposite.

Who wins the generalization challenge? None.
