A few [5, not that long]] paragraphs explaing the whole insanity crap from the Engima of Kirkwall Codexs. Just the important parts. Summary at the end.]
The mason showed me a plan of the city, and my heart skipped a beat. There were patterns in the intersections, back alleys, and boulevards. Some magisters believed in the power of symbols or shapes. In the oldest parts of the city, one can make out the outlines of glyphs in the very streets! What manner of magic is this?
The mage Circle of Kirkwall have a more troubled history than those in other Circles. A greater percentage of them do not survive the Harrowing, and a greater percentage turn to blood magic - almost double that of Starkhaven or Ostwick. Is there a secret fraternity delving into the Tevinter secrets of this city?
Access has not been easy, and I fear my disguise will not bear great scrutiny. But I saw the records the templars say do not exist. The blood of countless slaves was spilled beneath the city in sacrifice. Whole buildings were built upon lakes of blood. The sewers have grooves where blood would flow, all leading down. The scale is hard to fathom.A blood mage can channel great power from a simple cut. At least a thousand unfortunates died here every year for centuries. For what ungodly purpose would one need so much power?
It is well known that the Veil is thin in Kirkwall, small wonder given the suffering in the city. But we've discovered the magisters were deliberately thinning it even further. Beneath the city, demons can contact even normal men.
[Basically the veil is weak, due to Imperium Blood Magic. 1000s of corpses yearly to do this, making it extremely weak. Spirits can even touch the minds of normal men. Spirits keep whispering to everyone, and of their secret desires. Aka. INSANITY TROLOLOLOLOL]
The reason behind all the blood mages and general crazyness.

Blood magic and sacrifices aside there is simply a long history of death in Kirkwall and we know from prior discussions (Origins & Awakenings) that this will cause the veil to become thin; there really shouldn't be a mage tower anywhere near Kirkwall.
It was some dingleberry in the Chantry that not only decided to put a tower in the city, but decided to use the old Tevinter prison building known as “The Gallows” as the Circle’s home.
Unfortunately you can’t point this out to anyone or slap them silly for doing it in the first place.

Yeah Kirkwall is basically Hellmouth. Templars had record of all this crud and chose to hide it all. I wanted Hawke to bring all this up but like you said Sundance, it was impossible to do so. It would have shut so many people up on both sides I think.
