People are really going to think Shepard is a terrorist/madman when he claims he destroyed a system full of people to stop "reapers".

Not when Reapers appear and start slaughtering billions.

I don't know if this has been mentioned...

but this sets up Zulu's 'ME3 starts with a prison break theory' out quite nicely.....we'll never hear the end of it...

Ha, not gonna happen.

I hardly consider batarians people but to each their own view I suppose

I don't think ME 3 will start with a prison break. A trial, more like.

Ugh, Relays can't survive a supernova. They never could. You all are just misremembering what actually happened to the Mu relay. It was not in the middle of an exploding star,It was light years away.

Taken from wiki and from memory I'm fairly sure its the same as the codex entry:

The Mu Relay is a mass relay that was lost four thousand years ago. It was pushed out of its orbit when a nearby star went supernova, but wasn't damaged. The supernova's wake eventually swathed the Mu Relay in hot gas and dust, meaning the relay was impossible to detect as scanners can't pick up 'cold' objects like the relays in interstellar space.

The question on whether or not Arrivals Asteroid is viable is linked to just how close is nearby.

One more thing, Hackett on the debriefing mentions that Earth will call Shepard for trail for the destruction of entire System (probably Batarians will retaliate with heavy force, that means war).
Also very spoilerish. If you want to survive 5 waves or more during the battle for object rho: run away to the upper left corner so you can shoot everyone and use heavy weapons only on heavy ymir mech. Otherwise you'll get wasted too quickly.

EDIT:  Alpha Relay will be the source of such a nova.

Maybe the Reapers' best option is to not show up at all? Shepard will look like a fool and the humans, or whoever, will crucify him. THEN when Shepard is gone the Reapers can kill everyone. But they won't do that. Reapers are stupid.

Dont....care.  Im not usually one for complete genocide but I'd definately be on board for it with the Batarians involved

How ignorant of you.

I'm guessing Batarians killed his parents on Mindoir. ^^

Or maybe he had a Batarian uncle that touched him inappropriately? The world will never know...

doesn't the earth have something called the atmosphere? and things gets really hot as they fly though it on trying to enter our planet etc etc crap i knew i should have paid attention in high school

i say we just find a supernova, explode it and see if the wake will kill us or give us a 15hr day cycle

Since you didn't pay attention in school. Here you go:

Sun would expand outward, our days would be brighter and Earth's orbit would be pushed further out.
Atmo would be ripped apart and life wouldn't be able to sustain itself at all.
Earth would be a molten dead planet.
Sun would blow up and Earth would be blown apart in the blast.

A supernova isn't something you explode. A supernova is the result of a Star dying and exploding.

Alpha Centauri is a "nearby" star, and that f*cker is four light years away.

"Nearby" could be up to 100 light years away, really, since the Milky way is a thousand times that size.

Ok, so this is probably answered somewhere in the 10 previous pages (I'm far too lazy to look), but can someone tell me why, if Kenson and her crew were indoctrinated by the object Rho thingy, why they were getting the asteroid ready to smash up the relay?  Wouldn't the easiest thing just have been to avoid doing any of that?

I can understand them maybe starting to get that task accomplished, before they felt the effects of indoctrination, but they pretty much had the asteroid all ready to go.  Meaning that the Reapers let them finish outfitting the asteroid, and only waited until after Kenson returned from her Batarian holiday to throw a wrench into the plans.  At the last possible second.

If someone has a good explanation for this, I'd love to hear it.  It's quite possible I missed some detail because I was so jazzed that there was finally some new ME content to play.

It could have been that they weren't all indoctrinated at the same rate, as some worked in closer proximity to the object than others. Kenson was first to go, but couldn't convince others to abort the project before she was captured. By the time she was rescued, the rest of the station was more compliant.

Also, it didn't seem like the typical Husk indoctrination. Many of the scientists became conflicted about what they were doing, rather than outright obeying directives from the Reapers.

True but lets take Alpha Centauri as an example, if it went nova today how much damage would Earth recieve?

hmmmm I guess everyone is really annoyed with the Relay asteroid thing.

I cant just be the only person who thinks this is trivial to the lack of any emotional attachment this DLC has?

My Shepard would never act like what the DLC forced upon me! Im rather frustrated by this far more then a sci-fi concept which you can debate for 1000+ pages here to no end.

I'm pretty sure the explosion wouldn't reach inner planets of our solar system. My guess is the wave itself could reach Eris (10th planet) and less probably Plutos. It is quite, that radiation from the blast would reach Earth and cause some communication&electricity interference but that's all.

How is that supposed to contradict in any way what I said? The wake of aSupernova extends for tens of light years. It is unlikely and unnecessary for the relay to be in orbit around the star that actually exploded. A massive star system is not the most hospitable place, even when in its main sequence.

Only slightly reliable source, but I've heard similar things in all the damn astronomy documentaries I watch.  Nerd alert!

@Commodore Q: it was found buried in the DLC files, but it doesn't seem to trigger in-game.  So it's official material, but not actually part of the story anymore (I think).  It triggers if you let the clock hit zero.

I see Garrus, Mordin, and Wrex.  This makes me happy sad because it means they died in the Reaper invasion because you f*cked up.
