yeh I think shepard was emotional enough. Do try to remember guys that Shepard is least emotionally invested in batarians. They are an alien race that is hostile towards humans in general and he's not got to know one personally as a squadmate yet or a chance to see another side to them, they were all hostile to him in ME2.
I'm not saying shepard was heartless. But when faced with a choice that big and knowing the scale of what you might save and knowing that shepard is a soldier that has been through a lot more - I mean heck theres a sidequest in ME2 where you can choose to get a load of human civilians killed and there isn't even any dialog for it. I can understand why 300,000 baterians doesn't seem like a big deal and I can understand shepard as a hardened soldier standing strong and firm in front of hackett.
If you think about it it comes back to what Ash was saying in ME1. Where she brought up the conversation about putting your race first. Would have made it easier to swallow knowing that they weren't humans and knowing all the alien races he'd save too. I mean its not his fault the batarians are right on the edge of space.
