People are really going to think Shepard is a terrorist/madman when he claims he destroyed a system full of people to stop "reapers".

Not when Reapers appear and start slaughtering billions.

thats not gonna happen if u pay attention hackett says "he will delay the trial" (supposedly after the reapers) + shepard pretty much says hell happily face trial what AFTER the reapers invade 99% chance that if u complete ME3 you go face trail but cuz u saved Earth u are excused

I find this idea much better, and could make for a very satisfying epilogue.  I mean, a trial could allow you to revist all of the saved decisions made in ME1, ME2, and ME3.  Really get closure on everything.

However, starting the game with a trial and jail until the invasion starts would allow BW a better explanation for stripping out abilities again.  Who knows.

Sure sounds like Gears of War in here.

Just finished Arrival; good DLC. Probably about as good as Stolen Memory, but with more relevant story. The level design was really good - I'm hoping it's an indication of what we'll see in ME3. It also seemed like the enemy AI was more aggressive.

My prediction for ME3. Shep is hauled in front of an Alliance/Council court on Earth. Seems like a great way to catch everyone up on the story or refamiliarize those that may have forgotten. Then, Shep is convicted, hauled off to prison, and then the Reapers attack. Shep escapes and manages to get off Earth before the Reapers lock the place down. I'm pretty sure the Council will disavow Shep after he perpetrates one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. Of course, the Reapers showing up validates everything Shep's done.

Also, the Alliance and the Heirarchy go to war with the Batarian Hegemony.

Does anyone else fail to realize the pointlessness of the countdown video its like well u didnt stop the reapers from entering the galaxy so now b/c u didnt dave a few months you can just bow down and die on illium i mean dont you think regardless that the denizens of the galaxy would put a much better resistance than what the 20 sec video entails

Well the preview for ME3 already puts you on Earth.  It wasprobably also a convenient place to meet Hackett.

That's interesting how its playing out in your story. In mine, I'm a Spectre, given authorization to do whatever I see fit, full authority given by the Council i rescued.

It would be an extreme dick move to imprison the saviour of the galaxy.

Nobody believes that the reapers are real. Shepard is also going to dface trial in a *Human* court. Not a Citadel one, not a Batarian one, a Human one. ME3 probably starts with Shepard in Earth during the trial and then the Reapers arrive.

It's a hint that people need to pay attention to the dialogue in the game. They say a couple times that they are going to Arcturus station, which is in the Sol system, hence why you are there.

Arcturus isn't in Sol. It hangs around the Arcturus star which is a single jump from Sol.

It's in the way there. You pay attention. Sol is the closest we could go without actually going there.

I found out on ME wikia that Hackett's dialogue will change depending on whether or not you kept or destroyed the base. The change will be the "Hackett and Cerbertus" dialogue option. If you destroyed the base, Hackett will question whether the Normandy is actually a Cerberus vessel. If the base is saved then that line will not appear.

For some reason, this post by you Pwener doesn't make a damn bit of sense. Is it just me? Sorry if I'm off here.

maybe I'm clearing stuff up for no reason, but Arcturus Station is next to Arcturus star, 37 light years away from Earth.

It put us in Sol because Arcturus isn't available in game. Simple as that?

FFS people there will NOT be a trial! First off, Shepard says in Arrival that he will show up 'once everything is over', and once everything is over everyone will either declare him a hero or be dead. Nobody is going to care about a bunch of Batarians anymore, and I find it hard to believe anyone cares enough in the first place.

And most importantly, Arrival is not "canon"! This is not something necessary for ME 3, and for those who did not play Arrival but did play ME 2, it would be completely confusing to somehow end up in a trial for something the player doesn't even remember doing. It can't be something that happens in-between games either because you ARE Shepard, you play all the big moments, and for them to pretend something like that happened between games for those who don't buy Arrival are going to be going ballistic.

i would love something like that. it would let the people determined to
do a paragon run despite how blatantly ignorant paragon shepard can be
the option to be masochistic and rejoin the council/alliance, and give
everyone who just doesn't want to be fought every step of the way a
chance to stick with Cerberus.

DUDE ur awsome but the idiots will keep arguin that point just like the stupid destroying the relay thing

Oh yes para-Shep is ignorant, as opposed to renegade Shep who has humanity take over the Council and somehow we are supposed to believe that this is somewhat believable despite it being completely rediculous, but I digress.

Which is why I think the trial happens before the Reapers arrive but in mid-trial the Reapers strike and you are set free/loose to do what you do best.... kill bad guys.

I viewed this as a prologue to ME3, in ME2's skin.

It had one purpose for me...build characterization for Harbinger and the Reapers, and build anticipation.

And, by golly, it sure as hell did.

Subtle tweaks BioWare made to Harbinger's characterization were phenomenal, and the result was a dynamic and emotional direct exchange between Shepard and Harbinger. Sure, words are words, but listen to how they were said. I heard utter confidence and even contempt in Harbinger's voice. And for the first time, I got to tell the Reapers who WE are, and why WE as humans will not quit, or fall away, but stand and fight as our strive to merely exist is threatened.

I got to tell it directly with words this time. And use sarcasm to boot.

Excellent job with the characterization of the Reapers, BioWare. One of my main concerns heading into Mass Effect 3, I was highly critical. Not this time. Simply superb. I hope to see that characterization in ME3.

I'm glad someone else noticed.  You can tell Harbinger is starting to get pissed off.  These beings that pride themselves on being above everybody and being unfathomable are starting to show organic traits.  Paragon Shepard's speech about how we may lose but we're going to go down fighting is a fantastic line.  This conversation is probably my favorite of the entire series actually.  It's very short but it shows the progress you've made ruining the Reaper's plans as well as showing the essence of the human spirit.

So I just finished Arrival, but before playing it, I was reading everyone talking about a "huge choice" or something along those lines.

I didn't really see it, did I miss something?

No. There was a choice between contacting the Normandy or the Batarian colonies, but both have the same result. Though you can acknowledge that you tried to warn the Batarians to Hackett.

No, not really. The only "choice" is if you at least try to warn the batarians about the collision of the asteroid with the relay.  Either way, it makes no difference.  You have to kill the solar system in order to buy more time for the galaxy to prepare for the Reapers.  In the end, it'll likely mean the difference between billions and trillions dying which is tragic either way but huge in the grander scheme of things.  The hour or so you had wouldn't have saved all that many anyways I'm guessing but it may have saved a few and a paragon leaning Shep at least tries to do that much... for what it's worth.

What's all this talk of a trial? My Shepard is still a Spectre. He doesn't answer to anyone but the Council.

This is a very interesting DLC because it adds a different element to the story.

The question is, will the Alliance and the Batarian goverments allow this event to go public.

If this event were to go public then every terrorist, rebel and separatist group will use the threat of destroying a relay to get what they want.

The economic cost of policing relay traffic was 612 billion credits for one day (CDN 3/27/2011) so I think there will be some back door deal (possible with some help from the Shadow Broker) to hush this event up.
