Anders questions everybody's romance. He's an lonely, sad little man.

He didn't question me about Isabella.

He probably thought you were beyond saving. :P

Anders dumped my Hawke in my most recent game. He DOES have some standards! I have to admit, he was decent with the breakup, but very clear that my Hawke is morally reprehensible. I thought that was a great moment.

Edit: I do find it interesting that Anders confronts Hawke about their LI.  I knew he did with Fenris, but I figured that was because he genuinely hates him.

ORLY? Why did he do that? Did you resume a relationship with Fenris or something?

No.  You can't get back with Fenris once you're with Anders.  MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD

Spoiler starts here.

I made a deal with the demon in the fade when Anders/Justice was in the party.  That went down completely unexpectedly (Anders CAN drop from the group and try to kill you in the fade).  Afterwards, he dumped my Hawke.

Edit: Gah, yeh, what Ryzaki said.  I wasn't expecting it, and I had only picked a couple of flirt icons, but Anders does a whole breakup.  It's actually kind of cool.

You were probably in a Friendship romance and the rivalry points dropped your friendship below 50%.

He doesn't question Isabela because he probably thinks she's less of a threat in terms of forming an emotional attachment with you. On the other hand, Merrill and Fenris automatically have targets on their backs. Pulling you aside to discourage you from pursuing either is his way to eliminate the competition. Partly the reason why I think this happens is because he's mentally unstable and clings tightly to you out of loneliness and desperation.

Also Merrill and Fenris represent two things that Anders dislikes: blood magic and the Circle. Merrill is a blood mage and Fenris believes that every mage (that's not Hawke) should be in a Circle of Magi somewhere. The idea that Hawke (especially a mage Hawke) would love either of them over him is hard for Anders to understand I think.

Anders questions Hawke about Fenris and Merrill because he wants them out of the estate so he can move in. Isabela never moves in so she's not a factor, and homeboy starts dropping hints about needing to get out of his terrorist cave in Act 2.

It totally makes sense. What a user. :P

Could just be a bug. Varric is supposed to have "A Friendly Concern" quest where he comments on Hawke's romance choice for all four, but bugs stop the option for everyone but Anders (and rarely Fenris). A lot of folks wrote it off because Anders is the apostate half-abomination, but it's been verified as a bug by one of the writers.

Fenris never moves in, and stays squatting in that mansion. Never once in 6 years has he swept that place, made the bed, or taken out the trash when I came over!

What do the companions eat anyway? Can Fenris cook? Anders strikes me more as the cooking type. I bet they all just chow down at the Hanged Man.

I thought it strange that Varric never had a thing to say about my relationship with Fenris.  I remember he had random party banter, but that was it.

Varric: So...you and Hawke.
Fenris: What about us?
Varric: I need to make sure I get the story straight. Did you sweep her off her feet, or did she sweep you off your feet?
Fenris: I'm not telling you anything except there was no sweeping involved.

But Varric never asked me directly.

I think this banter for a Hawke that slept with Isabela but later romanced Merrill explains why Anders isnt threatened by Isabela:
  • Anders: Hawke was a fool to let you move in. You'll only betray him/her. That's all your kind can do.
  • Merrill: Why do you only do this to me? Are you jealous? You don't get upset about Hawke and Isabela.
  • Anders: You can't really get jealous of someone for sleeping with Isabela. It's just...understood.
  • Anders: She's like a side dish. She comes with the meal.

It's not the first question that goes through my mind when I see the seven-year-old corpses on his floor.

It's odd Anders can have such a bias against Merrill for being a blood mage when Hawke can also practice blood magic.

I sort of wish he would call Hawke out on that, personally. I never actually pick blood magic, because iew gross, but it would please me to know it's there.

Let's face it though, Anders has a giant huge blind spot when it comes to Hawke, at least on the friendship path.
