Like a lot of enemies he is easy to defeat with missile fire. Just have your tank engage him briefly while the others move away then your tank can lead him around the room, while everyone else shoots him up (or uses spells if preferred).

You could pacify him with the right replies.

Failing that it would help to know what class/level your CHARNAME is and what companions you have.

Melee is going to be tough even with the girdle of bluntness. Spells such as doom, blind and greater malison will reduce his hits but even then you'll probably have to run around a table to keep out of his way.

Another tip: use potions of invulnerability, heroism, giant strength, oil of speed on the main tank who will face him while the rest shoots away. And apart from the spell mentioned above to reduce his chance to hit, use spells cleric spells that increase your own chance to hit as well as spells reducing his: Protection from evil, Chant, Bless, Defensive Harmony. The more buffs before entering the inn, the better your chance of survival.
