Yeah, I really hope Dietz doesn't retcon anything.

There's a review of one of his SC novels on the MEC forum (I can link you if you want), and the 'fan reviewer' says that nothing was retconned. So I guess that this is a good indication.

I hope so, when he was announced as the next writer for a ME book, he said he started playing ME and ME2, that was over a year ago.

Hopefully, he knows the goings on of this series by now.  And he has experience in Sci-fi, so I'm not too worried.

His Halo book (I think was The Flood?), was the worst out of all of them, though.  So I'm wait-and-see on this.

She looks closer to 15 than 18...could this be the start of them introducing kids (non adults) into the game?

How come everyone is comparing her to Jack? From what I recall, other than some general similarities, their stories arent the same at all.

After reading Mass Effect: Retribution, I really hope the Illusive Man gets what is coming to him!

The one fundamental similarity the two share is that they're both exceptional human biotics, both of whom have been influenced by Cerberus' direct manipulation. Other than that, not so much.

I apologize for that, Stoko. I'm not very aware of his work, to be honest.

Nothing to apologise for. I was just making the point, the only Halo book he ever wrote and it wasn't even a proper one. I've read most of the Halo books, I liked them, I specifically avoided his because of it's reputation. I realise it's only a quote from Wikipedia, but this pretty much sums up what I read of it at the time: "...critical reception to the novel was less positive than Eric Nylund's Fall of Reach or other Halo novels. The repetitive fight scenes and dramatically different characterization of the protagonist compared to Nylund's work were seen as major flaws, and Dietz's style of writing was alternatively praised and lambasted."

And, more than that, he never wrote another one. I mean, I suppose he just could've decided not to, had no interest in it, whatever. But I can't help but wonder if maybe he was specifically not asked to come back after the way "The Flood" performed. Really hoping he doesn't screw this up.

Looks sweet. As they say, can't judge a book by it's cover, so perhaps the Illusive Man's presence there is merely symbolic of Cerberus-involvement in her history. Or Cerberus could very well be at the forefront of the story. Haven't read any of the authors work so can't comment on his abilities but I'll be checking it out, I tend to throw money at anything that involves Mass Effect.

This sounds promising. I like the possibilities with Gillian. Female lead for future ME games, anyone?

Am I the only one that isn't really excited about Dietz taking over Drew K's series?

I loved Drew K's work, I'm worried to death about someone else taking over HIS story.

So long as they release an audiobook (As they have with the other three), I'll be picking it up.

I haven't heard very good things about the books. As long as TIM or anybody doesn't try to toss her into my party during ME3.

The cover art is ace. :D~
Gillian is pretty.

I hope this doesn't mean Cerberus/TIM has found her? ;o; Poor thing.

From the blurb it doesn't really sound like it, but I wonder if/hope we'll see more of the Quarians, if Captain Mal and Lemm will return? <3

I wonder how Dietz will compare to Karpyshyn.

At any rate and either way, color me intrigued. :D

If it takes place directly before ME3, Gillian is still only 13 or 14 at most. That woman on the cover is too old (and developed) to be Gillian. Could be the artist was badly mistaken, and nobody cared enough to point out the obvious, or else the story is taking place beyond the events of the games, which would be very interesting...

1.She was introduced in the 2 years between ME1and 2.
2. By the end of Ascension she is 13.

Given that we add a year with the events before ME2 and the year thanr ME2 takes place in....that's 2 years.
Gillian would be 15.

as long as they keep her (and all the other god-awful book characters) away from the games, he can do what he likes.
