The one reason why I'm having a hard time picturing DA3 taking place in Orlais

If they all sound like Leliana, I'm all for it :) . She's got to have the greatest French accent of all time. I agree that I wouldnt want too many French accents in the game, but then again we normally have a ton of British accents anyway, which is why Varric is such a good teammate, one of the rare normal-sounding folks in the game :) . So at least if its lots of French accents instead of British accents it'd be a change of pace anyway. Hopefully there will be a fair number of normal sounding folks there too though.

All the dwarves have those "normal" midwestern accents, though, as do the city elves - BioWare just evidently decided not to spend a lot of time showing them.

Plus, Morrigan + FemHawke > Leliana, so I'm fine with the English accents. :innocent:

I'm seriously not buying DA3 if it's set in Orlais. I can't stand those horrible French accents.

I wouldn't really mind, Assassin's Creed II was alright with having mainly Italian accents. But I wonder if DA3 is based in Orlais, would they make the main character Orlesian with a French accent, or just make the main character anther Ferelden (unless they just bring back Hawke).

Aaaaaand Varric's voice was normal because he had a American accent? or because of his chest hair? Don't get me wrong, Varric had a great voice actor, but I'm wondering what that would make the rest of the American, British, Irish, French etc voices sound like what exactly?

If they fully voice it I hope for the male Character we get Riordan as the voice. His accent sounded natural and his voice was pretty manly. There are a few French accents in the game that are natural sounding, but a lot of them sound pretty fake.

Something tells me 3 will involve the Warden and Hawke both, since they both have disappeared at the end of DA2, and Leliana and Cassandra are looking for the both of them. Also, it would not bother me if the game took place in Orlais, which is likely, since that seems to be where things are hinted at in DA2. There will no doubt be a bunch of NPCs that have those "lovely" French accents, but there is likely to be just as many that have the Brittish ones just like the past two games.

Bioware seems to like accents after all, since the Dalish went from speaking like your typical Midwesterners to the Irish in the span of a game. Who knows, maybe the Orlesians will suddenly decide they are German or something instead...

Cassandra is from Nevarra, not Orlais.

EDIT: Which the wiki compares as being somewhat like Prussia, at least in its political position and culture.

I just hope that wherever they place the next game they don't drag the Kirkwall caves along!

I wouldn't mind Orlais. I find the accents charming. It's obvious the De Launcets were done over-the-top. I mean, it's the best fodder ever for Varric, hahahaha.

But I'd prefer Tevinter.

Lack of horses would be a problem too. What's the point of being a Chevalier if you have to walk everywhere?

Ideally DA3 will feature a proper dwarf protagonist, and take place in a single sunken cellar beneath Orlais. There will be boulders being flung about, and when the boulders hit one of the walls they will be magically drawn through the earth to the exact opposite side of the cellar.

The dwarf protagonist will shoot his crossbow to try and break up the boulders into smaller, more easily dodged chunks, and do so repeatedly until the fragments are shattered into harmless lyrium dust. Periodicaly the dwarf will be able to use earth magic to draw himself into the ground and reemerge at a random location elsewhere.

Every so often a hurlock or genlock bolter will race from a hidden door across the cellar floor, flinging bolts at the dwarf until they either reach a hidden door on the opposite side, or are felled by the dwarf's own crossbow bolts.

It's pretty damn innovative, and since there's no real NPC interaction, there's no real reason to worry about (mock) French accents, despite being set under Orlais. Everybody's happy! Except the mage crowd, but we've been setting them up for disappointment since the shapeshifter specialization in DA:O.

The big issue for me would be can the writers get player buy in. If it is dealing with another potential conflict between Orlais and Ferelden (which would be an interesting setting), I think there will be some resistance to side with Orlais given that players already have so much personal investment in Ferelden. To cast King Alistair as a villian or adversary would probably upset a large number of forumites.

This game doesn't have nearly enough, if any, NPCs with German accents, which is why I hope the game goes up north in the Anderfels.

^ Anything bioware could possibly do, will upset a large number of forumites (or rather, a small number of really loud mouthed people with too much time at their hands).

I'd personally like to see Orlais, but I think, unless they take their time with DA3, that won't happen. Simply too much stuff there, place is supposed to be a lot bigger then ferelden after all.

The accent is fine in small doses, but if everyone has it... eh... maybe I could get used to it. Yeah, maybe.

Hopefully everyone wears berets and has fine mustaches.

Especially Sandal. I demand him to say "Le enchantment?".

It could be worse. We could end up stuck with a mob of Antivans that all sound like Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderos) Posted Image

Riordin's voice & accent in DA:O was very cool, could listen to that VA read the phone book.

Can you imagine all the NPCs having a French accent?

Which is why I don't think it will be in Orlais. It will be in Rivani (where everyone has an English accent), Tevinter (again, all English accents), or another land where everyone has English accents.
