The names are:
Karashok
Karasaad
Ashaad
So my question is; Are they different ranks or do the names respresent job classes?

I was doing the Sheperding Wolves quest yesterday, and I noticed some of the qunari that are with the Arvaarad have different names.

Karashok: infantry private (close combat)
Ashaad: infantry scout (ranged combat)
Karasaad: ? Can't remember.

I thought that maybe the weapons they carry might give away their job class.Sword= warrior, spear= rogue?

oh wait.
It's ranks or jobs. Would be the same for any qunari civilian.

I figured that. But, does each rank have to be a certain job? I couldn't tell the difference because some of them that stood behind the Arvaarad had spears and one or two in the front also had spears but they had two different names.
The Karashok engage you in close combat while the Ashaad are throwing spears at you. They're two different "jobs" in the qunari battle strategy

That's what I thought too.But then I saw one of the Ashaad (I think it was one of them), they had a spear and they were in front of the Arvaarad. Not behind.TobiTobsen wrote...

The Arvaarad is the commander. He is placed in the middle of the enemy group so everybody gets the buffs. Why the designer put the Ashaad in the frontline? I don't know. They probably didn't care about something like a logical deployment for the NPC's

That's basicly why I asked. It didn't make sense to me why a spear thrower would be in front. All of them should be in the back.

They get everything right or else....they die.Even combat strategy.
IF the job class/weapon rule doesn't apply to them, then maybe it is a ranking thing.For instance;
An Ashaad isn't required to always use a spear. They might be allowed to use a sword.

Like, if you run up to the spear thrower, does he strafe for distance to throw it?
Likewise with the melee spearman, if you kite him, will he never throw it?
lol. too funny.
"I saw you throw your weapon in the last fight. you're in big trouble mister!"

Well, if the qun demands they throw their spears, who are they to know better and parry. Seriously, they're better at throwing then at close quarters, so they'll bloody well throw there spears. The Qun demands.

Unless the Arvaarad commands them to stand in front, THEN they parry. The Qun demands it!Lithuasil wrote...

It is rather comical that there are two jobs that employ the exact same weapon in different manners.

If you have only one spear, throwing it would be pretty dumb.

The qunari military gets screwed over by the fact that there is exactly one qunari model for the soldiers and one for the officers .So everybody uses the same weapons

I think the Sten, elite swordsman, class/rank uses a different model from teh other two, so that gives them three models.
I will admit, the first time I saw (and quickly dispatched) a Sten in DA2, all I could think is, "Great, they cameo one of your more interesting part members from Origins without giving you a chance to so much as say hello before you kill him."
Then I remembered Sten from Origins never really says one way or the other if that was his name, or his rank, just, "I am Sten." Also, just a couple minutes later I found myself killing two or three more Stens in the streets of Kirkwall...

They do? I thought they would use the same model as the Tal-Vashoth officers. Sword/Shield and the strange helmet.

Sten is a rank.Did you notice if they looked like the Sten from DA:O? I forgot to look.I was too busy trying to kill them. :x
They had horns. So that is a no. They look pretty much like their concept (second from the left).

Sten from DAO was a Sten of the Beresaad, the Qunari Vanguard. They have no horns. The Stens/Squadleaders form DA2 are just normal qunaris from the army.
Where did you hear this?
