Nepalese lyrics sung to slow background guitar instrumentals. This guy is part of a heavy metal-rock-Nepalese music-influenced band from Ithaca, NY whom I went to see in concert tonight. I love their sense of experimentation and innovation, and their ability to meld together Nepalese traditional music with modern rock instruments - but my head hurts from all that noise. Right now I'm just listening to these beautifully quiet, soothing tracks to get my fix. Check 'em out.

Listening to a couple of songs by Melissa Indot. Warning: sound quality on the Youtube videos isn't the best, but you can get a general idea anyway.

Hold On (acoustic piano ballad)
Love Surreal (soul R&B with a funky twist, and possibly where Indot is at her strongest)
Starlight (disco-influenced dance-pop)
Little Girl (straight up electro-dance pop)

What I do love about the London-born, Malaysian-based Eurasian singer-songwriter is that she has a very broad repertoire and demonstrates a cosmopolitan ability to handle a complex array of genres and styles. Balancing retro with contemporary influences, she has the sound and sensibility of a mature woman (given how she has to be past her late 20s, I think) which distinguishes her from younger artistes. Perhaps her delivery on "Little Girl" falls a little short given that she isn't a rapper by profession, but it's still a cheeky, compelling, well-composed single. Hope you guys have the time to check her out. (Also, I confess to being rather intrigued by smartly dressed, androgynous-looking women with short, spunky haircuts - so if you're into the same kind of eye candy, that's a bonus up your alley any day. )

Oh yeah, those guys are good. I can't summon up some tracks now because I'm at work, but I remember listening to one or two and feeling utterly, profoundly moved by the music. Like you said, epic.
