Come Tenderness ~ Lisa Gerrard
Irish-Australian singer Gerrard forms one half of the ethereal wave / ambient group Dead Can Dance. She's also worked with composer Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack for "Gladiator", and has several other impressive musical credentials under her belt. This mournful and meditative track is one of my longstanding favorites, particularly because it oddly reminds me of some Muslim elegies that I've heard in my youth. Gerrard grew up in a Greek-Turkish neighborhood with Mediterranean music "blaring out of the houses", in her own words, so that explains her musical influences. Simply wonderful and deeply moving.

I wasn't previously familiar with this song, but I like Lisa Gerrard and Dead Can Dance. I enjoyed this.
Now it's:
Boxhead Ensemble - Two Brothers
From one of my favorite albums to listen to for pure color and mood. Less like a series of songs than a series of tone poems for a chamber group, half improvised and composed in more an experimental rock than classical idiom.

If any of you are into Sublime, Check out The Storm - Jack Manness. Not sure if i spelled his name right. I found it as a free download on my phone. It was on Discover New Music: Rock Vol. 2. If that helps. Other than that, alot of Bad Religion, NOFX, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies, 311.

Jari-Jemari ~ Camelia feat. Joe Flizzow
Setiap hari ku melayangi kehidupan ini
Penuh rasa kesyukuran, penuh rasa kenikmatan
Ku harungi segala kesilapan, ku harungi segala santapan
Membuat diriku menghargai sebuah ahli kehidupan
Sesungguhnya segala yang berlaku telahpun akan berlaku
Suatu kuasa yang luar biasa
Yang tak dapat ku berhasratkan yang tak dapat ku uraikan
Sesungguhnya kita cuma manusia
The Malay Malaysian hip-hop scene is a mostly underground one, since the charts are dominated by non-English-language pop ballads and religious music. Also, hip-hop/rap is sometimes frowned upon in the public scene as "too Western". Singer Camelia is more of a balladeer herself, but her 2007 album MystiCam and collaborations took a more urban hip-hop direction while still managing to incorporate Malay lyrics and traditional Southeast Asian musical influences into her songs.
I'm very thankful for this; if nothing else, it's proof that one can still maintain a semblance of cultural authenticity while making music available to a wider international audience. Consider the various cultural homages / strains that show up: Camelia is performing a sequence that reminiscent of regional Malay-Indonesian/Javanese dance moves, and the hypnotic droning in the back is reminiscent of Malay/Muslim traditional elegies. Also note how, amusingly, Joe Flizzow (a 1990s veteran of Malaysian hip-hop) appears to be channeling a little bit of Lil' Wayne in his rap piece. Enjoy.

Dude, I love Dido. I thought her last album (which featured collaborations from Jon Brion, Brian Eno, Mick Fleetwood, and ?uestlove) was really good.

This is probably my favorite Spoon song from the last few years, and one of my favorite songs of 2010 so far.

Had it for a year (i don't often buy many albums each year)
She's touring the US atm
Thinking of getting Ellie Goulding - Lights, going to wait a week or two tho.
