hmm I'm listening to an industrial rock album for the first time. It's called Let's Play Domination by World Domination Enterprises. Pretty funky bass on this album and vocals that I could see myself getting hooked on. The guitar is extreme distortion - acquired taste perhaps. When people say the 80s suck they probably need to familiarize themselves with more stuff like no wave, post-punk, and industrial perhaps.

Still On My Own ~ Sway feat. Nate James

Excerpt from Pandora.com on Sway:

Pandora.com said...

Derek Andrew "Sway" DaSafo is a British hip-hop artist of Ghanaian origin who gained attention through a series of independently released mixtapes before winning a 2005 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) award, which positioned him as one of the leading hopes for U.K. rap. Born in London -- albeit unintentionally, when his mother was on a stopover between Amsterdam and her native Ghana -- and mostly raised there as well, DaSafo hails from Hornsey, a North London neighborhood positioned in between posh, middle-class Murray Hill and the slum Wood Green. His carefully constructed rap persona reflects this polarity by combining a literate, reflective approach with a savvy, street-smart sensibility. Together with his broad, cagey sense of humor and often nervously kinetic delivery, it amounts to a fascinatingly complex and undeniably charismatic style, comparable to an intellectual Ludacris or a more ruminative Twista -- it's not hard to hear why he generated an underground buzz that developed quickly into wider awareness."

Good hip-hop with an organic musical flair (love the light piano backing and Nate James' breezy vocals), and Sway has a hypnotic lyrical presence that makes you sit up and listen, not to mention the thoughtfulness contained in this self-reflective anthem on his personal journey and striving for independence. Certainly a refreshing change from having some dude droning on in monotone over tired bass-heavy electronic beats, the way it's done in the US mainstream scene. Do listen. :)

Lady GaGa - Bad Romance

Despite my initial aversion to her music, her songs are too catchy to ignore.

I'm addicted to this song thanks to a little anime called Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

Florence + the Machine - "Drumming Song"

I cannot spam enough hearts to show how much I adore Florence's "Lungs" album. Easily the best album I've heard in all of 2009.

Boys Boys Boys ~ Lady Gaga (Live in Ottawa, November 29, 2009)

Yes, I'm a fan. Also: massive male eye candy in that set. She definitely knows how to play to her audience.

Sonata Arctica is a great, great band. One of my favourites.
In fact, I am currently listening to:

Sonata Artica - My Land. (Can't check the quality of the link, slow internet is slow)

One of my favourite songs.
