I think thats only true after the fact because as far as media goes, you are right, most of the coverage was around the church burnings and Euronymous' murder. However Varg did some work with Mayhem and I think his early work was important for the scene... I wasn't there but its what I understand from reading and talking to people.

I just dont understand noise... I tried to get into it but it just makes me hate myself, which kind of feels uncomfortable. Closest I've come to tolerating noise is Gnaw Their Tongues, its really Black metal with super heavy distortion. Also Wormsblood but they are not on youtube.
