While ME2 obviously surpasses its predecessor visually, the character customization doesn't really change at all. After seeing that Laidlaw's team did with the character creator is DA2, isn't it time we get something that is at least on the same level?

While these games aren't in the same vein as ME2, they all have unbelievable customization of characters, not to mention casual clothing.

-APB
-Saints Row 2
-oblivion: tes
-The Godfather
-Fable 2 & 3
-City of Heroes
-Eve Online
-The Matrix Online

Some of these titles are dated, and yes some of them are strictly for pc, but with all of the variables there are to a process like this, why hasn't the ME2 team been able to catch up to some of it's competitors with the customization of our characters?

here are a few examples of how in depth character creation is on some of these titles

Eve Online

Even a Budget title like Saints row 2 gives you hundreds of options.

Comparing these to the creator in ME1 & ME2 does leave one feeling a little inadequate about their favorite game's ability to create an atmosphere of immersion, through customiziation of our avatars.

all this aside, it still doesn't account for the 4 options of casual clothing. For example, my main Shepard hates Cerberus with every fiber of her being, yet she's still forced to wear their uniforms littered with their logo's or dress like a survivor of 2175 Aeia.

For a team that developed 2 amazing games, you'd think they'd pay more attention to the details that matter to the rpg base.

I posted this a month or so ago on another thread but its quite relevant still.  The screams over the CC only seem to be getting louder at the moment.  This is the third thread today I talked about this on, so that can only be a good thing right!

I been pondering on how realistic an improved Character Creator would be for a while now and still cant come to a firm conclusion.  I can find evidence to support an improved CC screen, however the simple fact this is the final instalment in the trilogy also makes it redundant too. Logically if there was a time to add new styles and features it would have been during ME2.

It was always very apparent how popular the CC was and on the old boards there were dozens of threads being created about face creation and tweaking. The system they had never really worked effectively and the threads in there got big due to popularity, but also due to the fact the slider system was ineffective to convey sharing.

See here for example of how crazy trading sliders information got!

So as a result they redesigned it to include a facecode system in ME2. See Jesse's quote below. Note how he said it was a lot of work so they clearly invested a lot of time in it.  This coupled with the new facial scar system too leads me to believe that further developing plans were pulled.   I been trying to find an old thread where one of the devs actually asked for more feedback on the CC screen and what we would like.  This too me is further evidence of a more detailed and varied system was intended.

So its really a case now of how much time the Devs want to spend on ME3. It appears to me all the hardwork has been done during ME2 to improve the basis of the system.  Now its a case of if they want to just uprate the graphics or add new features that let us define our Shepard's more.

Personally I really want them to cater for a more variants in the creation screen.  Having seen DA2 we know its certainly within their realms to make fantastic looking hairstyles.

Additionally remember the styles we are using are still uprated designs from 2007.  ME3 is a 2011 Game!!!! Seeing new stuff would be brilliant.

Celebrity guides? Ok, so I'll have to pace through these for a bit to see what people, more talented than I, have whipped up.

This was the only reason I got my hands on gibbed. The cc in ME2 is frankly sub par when compared to other rpgs and action games. Which is a shame, since Bioware is supposed to be like 1 of 3 main rpg studios. Bethesda did ok with Fall out 3 and New Vegas, but I have issues with those games graphics, but that's another issue altogether.

Either way, they could still add in these great customizations we've seen from games like APB and EO. Obviously not to those standards, but there's a lot of leg room between ME2's CC and those I mentioned. It could be implemented much like the Black Market in DA2. No matter how far along you are in your game, or if its imported, you could change your appearance. There are perhaps dozens of places one could put this, The med bay on The Normandy, Mordin's Clinic on Omega, A "biotic and medical enhancement" station on The Citadel, etc.

And I understand its a question of resources and time devoted to this area, but CC is a staple of RPGs. With a weak one, it hurts the game a lot. There really is no reason they couldn't have a stellar CC system in ME3, and I think its a rather important sticking point for the game.

...Not a fan of giant breasts, but you should be able to mod your shepard  that way. Hell, Fable 2 & 3 are rather infantile in their feeling, but even there you can change body parts of your avatar, so you can make an Isabella Shepard if you chose to.

Now come to think of it, why hasn't someone figured out  how to use gibbed to mod body parts?

i agree altho not on fable 3as it has less customiziation than da2 and cloths and hair styles i got the game and  it sucks big time you can do none of what they said you could do it was due to that game as to why i didnt get da2 as i wasted my money on it and i will not do it aain without thoughly reading user reviews infact as a rule if a games customiziation isnt up to scratch with sr2 and elderscrolls i refuse to get or if its less than a prev game

Good thing I saw your post, I was thinking of renting that, but now I'll save that slot for something else. I agree on the point about SR2. It was a budget title, meant to cash in on its absurdity and lackluster production, yet it has more options than one of the most popular video game franchises on this gen? Its a little embarrassing to be honest.

This is a more detailed description of APB customization.

I would love more customization options. Hair, clothes, scars, tattoo design and placement. I love my Saints Row 2 chick, even getting to choose how she walks and talks. That was awesome. Going forward we need more options, not less.

yeah im all for customization, evne of minor things like clothes and armor. (I loved the ME2 armor set up where i actually got to pick the color and how it looked)

i usually just use default shepards head because i never was able to make a good looking head. plus now i completely associate shepard with that face so much that using anything else feels wrong. like ill watch youtube clips and people have custom shepard and i'll do a double take with that moment of confusion lol.

but yeah, im all for customization. a big reason why i used default shepard was because i didnt have the patience to sit in the creator for an hour customizing it.

I'd love to be able to give FemShep smaller boobs. At least they aren't incredibly awful, but if you own a pair, you'll know that more often than not they're a hindrance. I want her space sports bra, at least...

I feel like the real area where they're lacking is hair. I know that it's out of character to give Shepard a ton of different options. FemShep doesn't spend half an hour every morning getting her hair just so, but a little more variety would be nice. If not tons of options, then it would be awesome if they left in a reasonably non-complicated way to add on extra hairstyles through mods. It would be double awesome if you could do things like add on tattoos, but I'm not holding my breath; my FemShep's tattoo will have to live in my sketches only.

I actually think that the customization was rather good. I'd love to see some body sliders, but I understand that comes with sacrificing the ability to fine-tune some of the animations, and I'd rather have more sophisticated animation than the ability to give my FemShep thunder thighs.

Basically, if they don't take away options, I'll be fine.

As soon as I have a good picture drawn, I'll totally share on the FemShep thread. For some reason after completing ME2 I can't see her without a tattoo of the Omega 4 relay on her arm, commemorating what she's done - after going with Jack so they could get matching ones, of course. :)

I know what you mean, it caught me off guard. At one point i checked to make sure it was my sparrow I was playing with. but that was more about skill building, not the character creator. You had the options for hairstyles, tattoos, dyes to just about anything choices in purchasing weapons armor clothes, etc. Just some of these options would make the CC in ME 3 much better.
