I agree, very touching. but throughout the entire game, I kept thinking about how much Leandra reminds me of my mom and when she died, i was just "...................bu-but...................mommy.........Icy Magebane wrote...
@LocutusX, yeah that's what I mean. At the end of Act 3, if you play as a Mage and made Carver a Grey Warden... I just think it's cool that the two of them finally reach an understanding. But like I said, this is always dependent on how you view the characters, what tone you take, etc... I'm sure many people hate Carver too much to agree with me on this.
That final scene with Marethari and Merrill is one of the most touching scenes in a video game.

All throughout the game I was trying to understand WHY Merrill had to leave my clan, WHY the clan feared and hated her, and WHY exactly the events unfolded as they did. I kept waiting for some bigger and badder reveal... one that never came. What unfolded was... nothing super earth shattering, just mediocre to me. Even the final scene and the developments thereof were... meh. I got more gut wrenching impact from my Dalish Warden's origin story itself than from the entirety of Merrill's story arc in DA2. I can't really explain it but I suppose the changed to both the elves in general and the Dalish in particular were so great in DA2 that I simply cannot identify with this rendition as "my" clan, the same clan of DA:O that I have come to know and love in the short origin story and one I had to leave all too soon.
I have tried to understand it but all I am getting is these puppet figures that behave totally out of character compared to the mystical and graceful race of DA:O.

LOL... yeah and when he blames Hawke for Bethany's death.Caver is a complete tool... I'm not sure why I like him. I guess I just like the idea of teaching him to be a man, and less a whiny brat... and you get a few chances in the game where that comes through, so I'm satisfied. His attitude is grating at time, but it's understandable... magic is a huge problem for him, after all.
It's yet another reason, why I mourn they didn't drag me off to the gallows, end of act 2. That would have made for some awesome character development on his end. (But hey, gogo fanfiction :|)

This just in - if the demon died with Marethari, wouldn't jumping off sundermount have been a lot more heroic? I mean "I told you you're wrong, and to prove I'm right, I'll pay the price for you, now stab me" is somewhat cruel towards Merill, isn't it?
And yet Merrill would ask the same of Hawke ( and expect Marethari, who raised her, to stand idly by). Nothing cruel about that I guess.<_<

Point is - it's not only cruel, it's also moronic. Say everything goes according to Maretharis plan. The keeper, and the girl the keeper has been telling everyone is pure evil, go in a cave together, only the girl comes out, crying and hands covered in blood.
What exactly did the keeper in all her wisdom expect to happen at this point?

not like in this game you meet many good elves. Usually thiefs or blood mages... whole camp full of elves who haven't moved in years because they had no clue their keeper had a demon inside her.
fishy. wouldn't surprise me if they were all demons in elf form (by Act 3).... not like the keeper could have kept that to herself and demons do love to spread...
kill the evil elves ! about from Merrill of course... she was safe in the alienage when they became demons ! evil demons !

The way I see it, Merill prepared herself for three years, and then brought two senior mages and a spirit with her, to ensure to demon behaves itself

The point is you're condemning one character for doing the exact same thing as another. Merill asking/expecting her loved ones to let her sacrifice herself is no different than what Marethari did.
If Merill hadn't been such a social retard she'd have understood Marethari's feelings before it was too late.

As a sidenote, I loved the scene when she arrives to the alianage in the Night Terrors quest. That cinematic was wonderfully done, and so was the music.

And as mentioned above, not telling anyone, or making any preparations at all, was also foolish at best.

I didn't say Merill asking of me to
kill her, wasn't cruel. But there's a difference between "I might get

the honor to kill me".
And as mentioned above, not telling anyone, or making any preparations at all, was also foolish at best.
That's splitting hairs. Merill listens to no one. If Hawke had refused; do you really think she wouldn't have gone ahead and done it anyway (with the same idea as Marethari of doing it for others)? Not giving her the shard in the rivalry path shows she'll still attempt her plans even without backup.
As for no backup plan on the Keeper's part...really, the whole darn clan is apparently battle ready to some extent. Though I agree she should have told someone but then that'd be just some other "idiot" interfering in this whole mess.
And I meant to ask this before but when did Marethari tell the clan that Merill was evil? I remember her mentioning that she told them about the blood magic but figured the "Merill is dangerous and needs to get lost" was a conclusion they came to on their own.

Her death would have been quite a dramatic moment in the game if ti was not followed soon after by the complete slaughter of her tribe. Is there any way not to do that? THAT was a bummer.
