thats the question ^^
i asked this myself when wondering to buy cold-blooded or not.
i tried to figure it out and while it wasnt constant for all spells i assume that 6 bonus magic equals to 3 more dps on staff (note that staff dps increase damage of spells)
So The Final Thought is absolutly outstanding in this case leaving cold-blooded way behind as well as any other staff. I dont imagine i will be able to afford both so im gonna save for final.
as for the question - there is no other option it seems!
seriously spirit healer is a nono spec for protagonist. The passives are nice the healing too , however to take passives you need to invest a lot of points in it and the heals require the stupid aura.
But i wonder if its worth investing points in blood ? or just one point does the trick?
Sacrifice - meh spell - works best on high hp companions but do you realy want to drain hp from tank ? shame it cant be used on "followers" like dog or the mind controled NPC
Grave robber - too small area , will need some combo with gravity pull to do something
Blood slave - nice but 10s duration with 30s CD doesnt seem to be much . i have no idea how much dam Blood spatter does (need level ><)
Hemorrhage - best spell in blood i belive the damage is good and can paralyze when improved. problem is it only works on "things with blood"
Do you also feel that blood magic is ...uhm overrated? i will conclude some tests further but for now i will just treat Blood magic as bonus mana pool. (when it comes for sustainables Merrill keeps them for my team so i got nice pool for spells)
To be blood mage or not to be!

I believe the developers were concerned that blood mages were too powerful in the first game so they made them practically useless now. The spells in the tree are hardly worth it. Hemorrhage is probably the only decent spell but even upgraded it only paralyzes 50% of the time. On top of the weak spell tree, blood mages can't wear the better robes now without investing in willpower.
About the only thing that blood mages have in their favor is that the items increasing their health to mana ratio stack. I've read that its relatively easy to get enough of these items so that 5 points of health equal 20 points of mana.
If you really want to do blood mage, it might be better to pick up blood magic and spend the rest of your ability points elsewhere. You probably want to pick up spirit healer as your other specialisation for the bonuses vitality provides. Unfortunately, vitality does require a large investment in that tree.

I didn't have any use for it besides the additional health. Hemorrhage is cool, though like u said it only works on "things with blood", and as awesome as it is im not sure its worth basically burning 3 points to get, nor do i want to have to activate BM to use it. Plus, the best equipment isn't tailored for Blood Mages either.

I personally think Blood Mages are cool, but only in the first Dragon Age...
