No doubt waiting on the two week Sony/Microsoft validation period so they can say they had a "simultaneous cross-platform release".

It's being worked on. There's a ton of legwork to be done with testing under different situations to see what causes bugs and collecting information from users to research. Unfortunately they can't just wave a magic wand and make a patch every few weeks. They want to collect as many bugs as possible with the next patch so it's taking a while. They are working on it as fast as possible though.

I took it as an occasion - after somehow completing DA2 (it required starting with a new characte, who I must admit turned out much better than the first one, slow-down bug nonwithstanding) and before doing a 3rd character/finishing 1st run I blown dust from Origins and am killing the time till patch creating new import saves :P.

The first significant, in-game story bug patch for both Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 hit about a month after their respective North American launch dates. No reason to think the same will not be true for DA2.

Considering that the first few attempts to patch DA:O lead to additional bugs being introduced (and subsequent revised versions of the patches to fix them)... I'd prefer that they take their time.

You're reading too much into it.  He's talking about the eventual release of the patch for each platform, not where they're at now (or in the case of the post you link, five days ago).

As far as I know, EA has released most patches, especially early game patches, when they are available, and don't wait for a cross-platform release.  Can anyone confirm that?  Or disprove?

It's two week approval peroid for quality control for both sony and microsoft for summited material(s).
Patches are often released simultaneously to discredit any illusion of preferential treatment.

I read it just right. proof is found in DA:O releases btw.

This.

I did not either confirm or deny that all the platforms are releasing simultaneously, simply that there is a patch in place for all of them AND that consoles have a longer process. You're welcome to infer whatever you want from that statement but they will be assumptions and not official news.

I used to work at a software company and it took a few weeks for a patch to be made just because of the cycle it had to go through, and that was for a much more simple program than this. If I had to guess, Bioware's development cycle probably goes something like the following:

1. Development and QA prioritizes a bug list for programmers.
2. Programmers work on their assigned "to-do list" of bugs.
3. Programmers do basic testing of patch (if failed, go back to step 2)
4. Release engineers build XBOX, PS3, PC and Mac patches.
5. QA fully tests installer and engine SEPARATELY. (if install fails it's back to step 4, if engine fails it's back to step 1)
6. QA does a second "verification" round of testing on both the installer and engine. (same consequences if failed).
7. Development execs throw in a last minute curveball asking for something completely irrelevant and obscure to be added to the latest patch.
8. The whole process is repeated at the behest of the developers who don't do any of the actual programming or testing creating never ending cycle of bug fixing.
9. The development execs get angry that a patch hasn't been released yet without realizing that every time code is changed in the engine, testing needs to start over completely.
10. Dev execs finally lose patience and force a sub-par patch into release stages.
11. QA does yet another round of verification testing, this time turning a blind eye to arguably lesser issues in order to facilitate a fast release.
12. Patch is put up for download with many fixes and many new bugs.
13. Back to step one for 1.03

I don't particularly mind waiting, but I would appreciate if a (at least tentative) list of upcoming fixes could be provided. Not being familiar with the troubleshooting process, however, I'm not sure how realistic that is. Regardless, I'm simply glad that the patch is coming.

blahq's got it about right. And that's certainly not a cycle limited to just Bioware. <_<

If there is a patch in place for the PC, then we should have it now, regardless of when the console patches are going to be released. I own both consoles, I have no problem with multi-platform game releases, but I greatly resent when game companies withhold PC updates and patches until they can get the console patches though Microsoft/Sony.

Well i have not heard anything yet about the end of the payed open beta :P So i guess a few more weeks. Horrid Dx11 performance for nvidia cards, tons of game breaking bugs. The save import feature is really bugged and lots of serious bugs that seem to happen for everyone. Yeah seems like a beta to me. I would have been fine with a week or two waiting for a patch, since it is the norm these days to release unfinished products you might just expect these kind of things. If they plan to release ME3 this year i fear for the quality of the game.

Seriously just finish your products before you release them, i bet Rage from ID will be the smoothest release ever because they take their time to really polish their games and not release the game for a quick buck.

I doubt the patch is ready or anywhere near ready (what can I say, rose tinted glasses were traded for jaded ones) for either PC or consoles, but I second the notion.

I know that there's no preferantial treatment and console players will feel hurt and whatnot, but it's not Bioware/EA fault that Sony and Microsoft have additional policies and/or it's more time consuming process to patch a console edition (is it? I really dunno but I'd guess it's easier to make a PC one). Despite this whatever platform will have a patch ready to go, it should get it without waiting for the others.

And even if I hope that platform would be PC, I can't exclude possibility that PS3 or Xbox will get patch first. If so, than so be it. Just don't play waiting game with us Bioware. Please.

For me it´s ok to wait for a Patch a week or more (for a big Patch), but why they are not giving us minor Patches Day and Day? A fix here and there. All good Developers do that.

I agree. If Sony and Microsoft don't trust EA to know how to patch their own game or not to pull one over on them and provide free DLC, that's not the PC users problem.

Sooo... the question remaind: Bioware (if they are reading their own forum - it is not an offence, I just do not see too much replies onto the questions -), is there any approximate release date of the patch 1.02? (What includes the solution of the lagging problem, the Merril quest problems, the Sebastian and Isabella relationship problems, the auto-attack problem and so on...)
Just for set the peoples' mind rest.

Luke Barett has made several posts in the last few days saying they're working hard on the patch, that it will be for all platforms, and that he can't give an ETA.

The passive bonus mess bug (Isabela, Sebastian, armor set bonus and plenty of other stuff) is a top priority fix they're working on.

Well, if we are indeed waiting for some kind of Sony or Microsoft approval, which we will probably never know, it is beyond stupid imho. There is absolutely no reason to delay the PC patch because console players might be envious or some such.

Is it better to have 100% of the community being angry at YOU(Bioware) for not patching the game fast enough or is it better to make 33%(probably more) of the community happy while the remaining ~66% are angry at Sony/Microsoft?
