Maybe its not good practice, though neither is releasing a game which clearly hasn't had enough Quality testing. It seems so easy sometimes for a developer to release a game and then patch it 'on the hoof' so to speak, whilst their customers money is earning interest in their accounts.
It also appears that in general people seem to accept this attitude with a shrug of the shoulders and a 'things happen' approach, and as such it won't be stopping any time soon.
Since this is, going from the relative lack of icons under your profile picture, your first Bioware game, I 'm going to let you in on a secret: As Bioware releases go, this is about as bug-free as they get. Sure, they let slip two really nasty ones (the combined Isabela/Sebastian/gear set bonus/whatnot one and the phantom quest one), but in comparison to the issues that plagued, say, Origins, on release, this game is near-flawless.
I'd say that a lot of us who are familiar with Bioware's past releases (and remember the list of unofficial fan fixes Baldur's Gate II still requires) are seeing more of progress here.
I have to disagree with you here.
I've been here, game in hand on launch day, for the past several Bioware releases. Yes, games of this magnitude generally and from this developer specifically are far from bug-free on launch. But Dragon Age 2 is not "near-flawless" in comparison to
any game. I realize you were speaking in hyperbole, but still. This game is broken every which way, and as someone who would really like to keep playing it...it's absolutely frustrating. Everything from companions to equipment to cutscenes to plot flags to the performance of the game is in desperate need of patching. Maybe I've just been one of the lucky testers for the last few games and that has altered my perception, because I have never played a Bioware game that felt so incomplete.
In theory, Dragon Age 2 is a pretty fantastic game. Once the patches are rolled out and the game actually works as it was intended to work, it might be. But right now it's not functioning as intended for a whole lot of people (I know, there's always one guy who has no issues and claims that we're all just making these bug reports up), and I find it strange that so many people on the forum continue to be more concerned with "defending" bioware from criticisms and bug reports than bringing these bugs to light.
