Just like the topic title implies.

Wiki says you canc onvinec him not to join quentin. But no matter which option I pick he always ends up fighting against me.

There is no "star" option or anything.

I let him leave at the mansion.

I didn't frame hi with the templars.

Took him to quentin's lair.

Anyone can tell me how exactly to convince him not to join quentin?

Not sure how to turn him to your side, but then he never gets that far. Since Varric is always my prefered locksmith/ranged DPS, that decision is taken out of my hands at that point.

Anyone else knows? It says it in wiki... and other sites... but I am not sure why I did wrong.

I am agressive and threaten him, kind, diplomatic, witty.... he ends up joining him.

And yes i know varric is funny, but this is another playthrough trying to have gascard survive the encounter with Quentin

I think it might be from a bonus option you get for been agressive most of the time, so if you haven't then you are out of luck i think. I know i got him to side with me on my first playthrough and i was mostly agressive.

The best way to convince him is his cold steel in his chest.

damn thats not much to go on...sort of weird that nobody seems to have accuracte information. wiki, other dragon age forums nothing. All that is ever mention is "convince him" to stay with you...

sigh this is really annoying lol.

Anyone has any info as to how exactly convince the idiot not to make a suicidal mistake and stick with me?

*nods* I've heard that you can, just don't know how it's done, sorry, wish I could help. Even the strategy guide says you can but it says it's with a 'diplomacy option' so maybe you have to be Diplomatic Hawke and use the star selection that pops on the left of the wheel? The way it's worded I get the feeling it's the special convo option not a normal one.

Yeah... I been looking and trying different ways to get that star thingy to no avail. Nobody seems to have more than "diplomacy".... thought diplomatic answers were the ones with the wreath leaf.

I didn't have Varric with me the first time when I was playing a mage and was able to talk him out of joining him and fight on my side. I think I used all of the leaf options.

I tried all leaf options from the time I met him in darktown and nothing.... I dont understand.

First leaf is : he wont let down his sister"

2nd leaf is: "you were lying all along"

After the 2nd leaf there is only a 2 red cross swords in the place where leaf option would be.

I threaten to kill him doesn't work

Option 2: "you dont want to do this"

he answers I dont know what he wants

Option 3: "dont do it he is mad"

he is mad but powerful

.................I dont know lol

sigh people dont read even the first page lol. yes I know I know varric's answer is the best of all. Focused. Not asking for the coolest answer to Gascard... but the best way to not have him killed lol.... although I wished his arrow would have gone straight through gascard and killed Quentin in the process... but oh well

You have to have a chracter that chooses many olive branch options. i just did this like two hours ago and the star option was available.

Like the way he takes out the thugs in his brother's place during the 'embelished version' of his personal quest in act 2?

I loved that scene, just sayin'

Did you tell that female templar that Gascard is guilty?  If so they went and found him in Darktown and executed him.

He disappears till you restart the quest with "All that Remains".  You have the option to go to him to use his blood ritual to find that woman he was with (I forget her name) or to go to Lowtown at night to help Gamlen find mom.

not sure how to define many.... I've counted  48 conversations during this playthrough, and 39 of them have been leaf. The rest are a mix of witty and the diamond one... which forgot what it was....

so much for planning a playthrough from the very beginning lol

Thought diamonds were "tactful"... or "charming" not witty.

EDIT:... yeah they are being charming not witty.

EDIT 2:.... this is another bad idea crossing games.... from ME2 paragon renegae unlocking future dialogue bullzhit fiasko found in Dragon Age 2....sigh Bioware... I thought... I thought it was EA's bad influence corrupting you... I'm starting to think you might be a lost cause.

Isn't Diamond purple? Which is supposed to be witty? Oh well confusing the responses by changing the Icons for some conversations (what was the reasoning behind that?) didn't help me much on my playthroughs. Were they supposed to hold more weight for personality determination?

He can join Quentin? Wow. Cool.
I had Varric in my Party, chose Olive (like always) and let him go, but when I arrive later, he´s already dead (killed by Quentin I guess).
