Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me some insight on why this problem occurs.

I'm one of those people who currently can't play Dragon age 2 because I recieve the error message "Dragon Age 2 Has Stopped Working" when I hit play. Since I can't play it, I decided to go and replay Dragon Age Origins for a bit.

When I loaded up dragon age origins, the moment I got past the splash screen and the game went to load my computer blue screened and crashed. This is not the first time this has occurred, though I thought it was a fixed issue. I had attributed the problem originally to my graphics card (Radeon HD 5850), and bought a new one. My computer runs other games just fine, it only blue screens when I attempt to load up Dragon age. I'll post the error report below, but I don't really know what it could mean. My comp also made a minidump file but I don't know what use it would be.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Computer Specs:
-Gigabyte ga-x58a-ud7 motherboard
-Sapphire radeon HD 6950
-6 GB ram
-catalyst 11.4 drivers
-windows 7 64 bit, service pack 1

If theres anything I forgot let me know, or send me pm's if you are willing to trouble shoot with me.

Does it run in DX9? You can change the video settings from the config tool before loading in to the main game. If it's still giving the same issue in dx9 mode with low settings then I'll follow up in a PM and give you further instructions.

I realize your rig should be able to play very high no problem but certain cards are just not jiving well with certain driver sets.

A BSOD usually indicates an error with a driver or some other element of your operating system. I've found the folks at this forum very helpful in interpreting those mini-dump files...

... in my case, it was an improperly installed video driver.

DA:O doesn't seem to have an option in its config setup to switch to DX9. However, I did switch everything to low and I still got the blue screen crash.

Origins? That would mean you're in the wrong forum - this is the DA2 support forum. Try here:

Since he offered, and is wise in the ways of all things Dragon Age, I would commune with the green bear.

That said, lacking other information, I am going to suspect it's either a video or sound driver... I am betting video.  You can try a complete uninstall/reinstall.  Some steps linked below in my sig.
