"No one, for instance, has found any means of traveling-- either over great distances or small ones -- beyond means of putting one foot in from of the other. The immutable nature of the physical world prevents this. So no, you may not pop over to Minranthous to borrow a cup of sugar, nor may you magic the essay you "forgot" in the apprentice dormitory to your desk. You will simply have to be prepared."

So why can every mage in Kirkwall except ours teleport around the battlefield?

Well, they don't know Dalish magic either, because Merrill can.

I choose to handwave the blood magic puff of smoke as a mage stealth technique, tbh.

Merrill's spell somehow allows her to "move effortlessly through the earth", which isn't the same thing as pure teleportation.

I guess the mages in the game should just be cloaking and running fast xD

Well, handwaving is all well and good, but technically, this does violate the lore. I'm fine with it, even if it's cheating for enemy mages to just teleport to the other side of the screen in a split second, right as I'm about to kill them. >.> Bioware doesn't have to stick to the lore if they don't want to. Nothing we can do about that.

Anyway, I just hope they give our characters this ability, because it would be quite useful... rogues have it (back to back), why not mages? Not including Merrill obviously... the keeper ability isn't the same, and it's not like Hawke can use it anyway.

Such deja vu.
I swear I was reading this thread over the weekend.  Posted Image  Weird.

Anyway, don't you know those codex entries are written by characters in the world of Thedas, and therefore can be wrong?  Clearly, this one was.

Yes, somehow the scholarly mages of all the known world somehow missed out on Teleportation, in all their years of study. And somehow every mage in Kirkwall has access to this strange, undiscovered art. That's perfectly reasonable. [/heavy sarcasm]

You were, I had one posted with the same complaint.  And I still think the mages porting all over the battlefield was just dumb considering it broke their own lore.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.  Bioware said it, not me.  It's a convenient explanation for them being able to go against the lore that they developed if they feel that doing so makes for "awesomeness".

Me, I don't like it.  Can't change it, though.

@TJPags: We're on the same page. I am really just a bit annoyed at Bioware... simply admitting to rewriting the lore is more acceptable to me than this kind of ridiculous explanation. There's now way scholars could have missed that.

Ths search function isn't visible anymore, but you can find it here:   http://social.biowar.../forum/1/search

It had one - a very crappy one, but it was there - until recently.

I'm guessing it got streamlined.  Posted Image
