Help.  I updated my drivers, no luck.  Read somewhere on here to update to that 11.4 driver, nothing.  Basically the game loads fine, I hit new game, select my character, opening movies play.  All great until the battle starts.  I get four or five guys killed and then it just freezes except my mouse.  After a few more seconds my desktop appears and I get an error that is detailed below:

----

Anyways, I'm virus free and definitions up to date, so no idea what that's about.  My system is below.

AMD Phenom II N830 Triple-Core 2.10 GHz
4 Gs of Ram
Windows 7 64bit
ATI Radeon HD 4250

The very first time I played I got through two sets of guys before it froze, but now it's 2-5 guys killed and then whoops.  Come on guys, this was 65 bucks! :pinched:

I know this is preemptive but could you imagine if Ford sold a car that needed patches to safely operate. This stuff should be tested. I could've waited. Now I've got this **** tease dancing on my desktop. I'm making light of it, but it is pretty irresponsible.

Okay... a couple of things:

1) You're using a notebook with a Phenom II mobile processor.  It's a newer chip, but it will not have the same power as a similarly-named desktop CPU.  It will run at a lower wattage (befitting a notebook) and has a lower memory clock multiplier... in other words, it won't have as much "umph" or speed in processing data.  Sooo... I encourage you to try lower graphics settings.

2) Same story with your graphics chip.  You can read more about it here:  http://www.notebookc...50.29664.0.html

3) Finally, and most importantly to your crashing issue, it is possible that Windows did a not-so-good job clearning out the old video driver information when you upgraded to 11.4.  It happens.  You might want to try doing a complete driver uninstall/reinstall.  There's a step-by-step guide linked in my signature, below.

Hope that helps,

RI

p.s.  As far as cars go... unfortunately, cars get recalled all the time.  Ever hear of the Toyota Prius?  ;)

EDIT:  I may be wrong (I have an Nvidia GPU) but the 11.4 system seems to address DX11 issues with ATI chips... you system will probably run best with using DX9.  Did you try the game with your original drivers?

Lol, thanks for your help. Not to sound unappreciative but I wouldn't be here if I had not tried the commons.

replies per number:

1) laptop, yes. I feel part of my post wasn't read, lol. I can play the game it just dumps me out after several minutes at normal game speed. I am above minimal requirements and that is my point in the end. My settings have been tried on low already, hence why I'm here for help.

2) My card is supported, I checked now and before I bought it. Not sure where you're going on this one.

3) This is how I performed my install already. It's the only way to be sure.

So... DAII is a Toyota Prius?

Problem resolved. Switched from DX11 to 9 and everything is as peaches. To bad I spent three hours trying to figure it out and now its time for bed. Sorry BioWare for knocking, I was just frustrated.

You are above the minimum requirements, but perhaps not by as much as you think.  You did not include what graphics settings you're using, hence my suggestion to check them.  That said, the error you describe does not sound like a performance error per se, unless your notebook is overheating.  I didn't suggest that before because you made it sound like the game crashes reliably in the same place.

Good to hear.  Many don't.  BTW, was this error message a desktop pop-up?  Was there a BSOD involved, or a hard restart?  If so, I've actually found the folks at this forum very helpful... you can download a compiler and then upload a report from your Windows minidump file.  Did wonders for me:

Of course, you can always contact support.ea.com.

Not from my perspective.  Just an example of how the automotive industry occasionally has to correct its products, too.  In your case, I am not all together sure a game bug is your issue... the error text you posted, when searched on Google, seems to be related to video drivers and display hardware.  Again, the folks at sevenforums might be able to help.

In my case I played once through DA2 with no crashes at all and only a few story-related bugs.  I am holding off on playthough #2 until the next patch comes out.  Hopefully, once you get this issue solved, you'll enjoy the game as much as I did.

Best,

RI

Ah... well, glad to hear it.  If I ever start compiling a solutions list for DA2 like I've done for DAO, I'll add this to the list... so you time may help others down the road.

Enjoy the game!

The minimum is the 2600 Pro and you have a 4250 HD, which is slower. Your card is quite a bit below the system requirements.

Na, in the list of compatible cards my 4250 is in there.  And even more so, I'm loving it and kicking some sweet darkspawn butt once again :P  The graphics are smooth and the battle is way more energetic than DAO.  The issue was with DX11 and my AMD processor not liking each other for some reason.  Utilizing DX9 instead made me bigger, super mario style.  Overall, loving it.

I find myself wanting a mini-game or two to break away from some of the questing from time to time, :P anyone else here.  Maybe they'll make a mod for something cool.

There IS no "List of Compatible Cards" in the Readme file. Period. The HD 4250 is nothing but an onboard Chipset video chip, is is not a "CARD" at all.

Your performance cannot be anything other than execrable.

Lol, yes, it's on board... it's a laptop. Which I stated originally. As for my performance being unpleasant I am sorry to disappoint you that it's been quite enjoyable. I didn't see it in the readme because I researched it online, "smartly", before buying and as such didn't have the readme. Google it, it wasn't worth saving so I haven't a clue where I saw it. As far as I can tell they are right, I just finished the first act with no issues.

As I have resolved the original issue this post was intended for I no longer see your faulty point.
