Mass Effect 2 had no gamepad support, but some people found a way to modify the coalesced.ini file to not only allow support (albeit with a couple of bugs), but also change the whole menu interface to what you would see on a console. I'm not sure what they did exactly but here's a link to show you what I mean: http://meforums.biow...07757&forum=125

My question is: would something like this be possible for Dragon age 2? I know I'm not the only one halfway through the game suddenly realized that it is 100% console-oriented and considering buying the console version. Or at least, I think so.

Its really a shame they didn't just included gamepad support out of the box.. I enjoyed the game more on the PS3 even with the nearly intolerable load times. I think the controls are fine on PC but nowadays I just wanna relax with a gamepad resting lightly in my hands rather than contorting my fingers into ridiculous constellations on a keyboard -- which I do enough of the day.

I'd bet the entire console interface is somewhere inside the DA2 files too. I'd definitely like to see it added. Preferably by Bioware themselves (why make it a console game and then not add the option for console controls?) but by mod if need be.

I made a topic asking for this when DA2 was announced. Never got any kind of response, so I seriously doubt Bioware will add it themselves.

It's a shame really, obviously the combat for this game was designed with a gamepad in mind. Just seems lazy that they didn't include support for one in the PC version. It would be pretty cool if someone made it happen. The Mass Efeect mod works pretty well actually, I still have it installed.

If you all are so much wanting a console version, why didn't you buy a console version? Just sayin'...

Not really the point.

And I have console & PC versions of both DA games (my wife plays the console versions on PS3), I've done full playthroughs on both versions of both games. To me Origins feels better with a kb/mouse & DA2 feels better with a gamepad (although an auto attack would be nice on the console version). Just my opinion.

Anyway, no harm in asking. Someone could get bored and decide to look into & do this, you never know.

I was actually hoping that someone visiting this thread would know enough about modding to be able to say just by looking at the game whether such a mod is even possible at all. If it is (even if it's weeks away), then I'll be patient. Not like there's a shortage of hot new titles coming out this Spring.

Edit: My first post linked to the mod for ME(1). Here's the ME2 gamepad support mod: http://social.biowar...06/index/985334

I made an autohotkey script to do it. My official thread is on the steam forums: http://forums.steamp....php?p=21491131

I checked it out and it's definitely a nice piece of work.

However, the question still stands on whether or not a mod is possible that would change the UI scheme-thingy from PC to X360. The thing that always bothered me about these 3rd party software tools for gamepad mapping is that you have to cut corners and improvise. I believe we deserve a more authentic experience than that. Especially considering that, from what I've been reading, adding an alternative UI scheme was a coding issue as simple as adding an "if " variable.

I've also noticed some console-specific icons appearing when using the "R" (default action) key on the PC, such as speech clouds next to companions and looting icons next to containers. It fuels a hope that the console UI is hidden somewhere in the game files, much like with ME2.
