I wanted to base a character around Flashbang Grenade so I created a Sentinel mainly for the cooldown.  I'm playing on Insanity with an ME1 import.  I'm in the early game, just got Mordin and Garrus so my guy looks like this:
Throw: 2
Warp: 1
Armor: 2
Overload: 1
Cryo: 0
Defender: 4 (Guardian)
Flashbang: 1 or 2

I would normally take Assault Armor with a Sentinel but I don't see a lot of CQC in my future.  My goal for this character is to abuse Flashbang as much as possible.  I'm still going to max Tech Armor first but I can't decide between Power and Assault.  Since there are a couple of areas where you get mobbed by husks, it seems like Assault armor would give more survivability in those situations.  Those are just a couple of missions, however, so a little more shielding and some extra power damage have some appeal.  BTW, I'm using Blood Dragon Armor.
What do you think I should choose for Tech Armor?  It's probably a minor point but I'd rather decide now.

I would pick power armor for the power damage bonus.

Assault Armor is almost always going to be better. First of all the range on the pulse is 18m (about 60 ft), a pretty significant distance, more like medium-long range than close range. But more importantly, the 25% extra shields from Power Armor is a lot less impressive than you might think.

The Tech Armor shield boost only applies to your base shield strength (250), so Assault Armor gives you an extra 187.5 points to your Shield, and Power Armor gives 250. But, when your shield goes down with Assault Armor, your shields get restored to 50% of your total shield after upgrades. So on my level 30 Sentinel I have 642 shields with Assault Armor up, and when that goes down it gets restored to 228 for a total of 870 points of damage my shield can take before they get down to my health. With Power Armor, I'd have a flat 705 shields.

Now, you could argue that with Power Armor you don't have to reactivate as often, and you might be right, though in my experience that's not the case. Personally, I find that Assault Armor lends itself to a nice gameplay rhythm: Assault Armor goes down and pulses > Use a short-CD power (Overload/Warp/Flashbang) > Use squadmate powers > Shoot til your shields break > Re-apply Assault Armor > Use squadmate powers again (because they reset (because Tech Armor is overpowered (and awesome))) > Repeat. It's pretty much inevitable that your shields are going to break often (read: constantly) on Insanity. Correct use of Assault Armor can turn that from a nuisance into an advantage.

I went with Assault Armor. Good call. I found it handy in a few spots.
