Why isn't there any option where you decide to fight both Mages AND Templars at the end of the game? Yeah, I know that if you side mages, you fight abominations and templars, and the same thing goes for if you choose templars, BUT... What's wrong with not choosing a side and fighting for what you believe for instead? I could've enjoyed that ending more...

Then Varric would be telling Cassandra: "Hawke didn't take anyone's side but his own. Following his intincts, he fought against Meredith and Orsino's respective armies and left Kirkwall..." and so on...

Anyone else thought the same thing?

To my eyes, it was the MOST obvious choice, but nope... The games kinda forced you to take a side... Kinda disappointing...

My hawke and his 4 other companions taking on two armies... He isn't Kratos.. It will be GOW3 all over again. Having a hero to powerful ruins everything

He isn't alone, that's a fact. He has like a small army for himself. Plus the helping NPCs along the way.

Would have been better if you became Viscount earlier in this game, and could choose option 3 - use Kirkwall's army to crush both the Templars and Mages.

Yeah, Teddie. I feel the same way. Actually in my opinion a Hawke siding with either mages or templars ain't achieveing something important. Putting a fight against both parties what would really make him a remarkable person in history so Seekers will want to find him desperately.

I also think he isn't all alone. First of all he have guards by his side thanks to Aveline and many ferelden refugees. Friends in both Templars and Mages.

On my first playthrough I was thinking to contact with Grand Cleric and put down Meredith and Orsino but thanks to Mr. Thick Full Plot Armor Anders messed up everything. It raise my hate for him to infinity levels. :D

Yeah... and my beloved murder-knife broke at his plot armor. I had to stab him with a blunt spoon in the end. He deserved it.

Actually it's Meredith who kindly informs you that not joining her means being her enemy. So if you had been able to choose the "You are both wrong" option, you would have been alone fighting both sides and you wouldn't be GLORIOUS LEADER CHAMPION OF KIRKWALL WHO INCITED GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR BETWEEN MAGES AND TEMPLARS.

All the more reason to not take sides, making Meredith go ballistic attacking neutral parties would have the Templars turn against her sooner.

Side with the mages and you practically are fighting both sides anyway, because every single damn mage is an abomination and Orsino is MADE OF STUPID.

Because if the Champion simply left the city in it's hour of need, he wouldn't be much of hero. While Meredith wouldn't accept that you remain and stay neutral. And just deciding to kill everyone is stupid.

I went with the mages not because I was picking their side but because they were going to be killed for the actions of someone else so I opted to protect them

I also wondered why there wasn't neutral option at first but after thinking about it, if there was a neutral option how would the games final events play out? I suppose the champion could just kill everyone (which sort of happens anyways) but the champion couldn't simply walk away either.

My best guess is that the choice you make will heavily influence the content going forward. As much so that a neutral stance wouldn't have worked because if a holy war does in fact happen then you are going to have to fight and chose sides sooner or later so why not chose now.

If they absolutely needed both players Meredith and Orsino dead for DA3...why didn't the one you side with die to the other one before you fought?

Meredith kills Orinso if you're Pro-Mage; Orinso keeps Meredith if you're pro-templar.

I mean, that doesn't sound hard to come up with. I'm tired as hell and I came up with that.

EDIT:

And for the topic, of course I wished there was a third option. Your choice is literally between insanity and blood mage nercomancer who helped the guy who killed your mom. Any one of us would have let those two wackos kill each other in the Gallows.

Every single damn mage you meet is an abomination

Except Alain (though he uses blood magic), Bethany and Hawke.

I thought "fighting both sides" was the only "choice" in this game because that's all Hawke's been pigeon-holed into doing the entire time, Acts 1 through 3.

Because fighting two armies with at the very best a dozen people is suicide?
