Are you sure ? It was up around 700k week 1 with pre-orders included. That's a serious drop off if that is the case.

If it had done it in the first week maybe. Nothing really special unless it's in 1 week , it just sort of looks desparate.

Yup, Cotheer just rounded up the total figure, that speaks alot for the success of this game.

One more important point, the gaming industry has been growing at quite a considerable rate in last couple of years across the world and if your biggest franchise isnt showing that promise well... you can understand the rest.

I personally hope for SW:TORs success and will make sure to try it, but i'd hate to be a mod of it's forums with 923409237 "WoW clone durr" and "dis sux, WoW iz betterzz" topics.

Nope. Can't see them stop with it, they've put too much effort into it to back down now, even if DA2 isn't what anyone would have hoped for/expected. Just fleshing out a story like this one takes time, time they probably don't want to see as wasted.

I like to think that the reception of this game will at least cause them to put more time and thought into the next iteration. The new design directions might be better received if better implemented.

If they don't learn anything from da2 i hope it is.

This.

On the other hand there is a giant life-leeching parasite *cough*EA*cough* which will probably drain the studio to the point where DA becomes a racing game with darkspawns, before they dump it and find a new host to invade.

Off-Topic, but is ANYONE concerned about Mass Effect 3 a bit? I know this isn't the forum, but isn't it coming out a bit... too soon? you know, like DRAGON AGE 2?!!

i'll repeat myself and say that i liked dragon age 2, but i'd prefer it if:

many other people will like it so that it sells well and doesn't destroy the franchise

make a better game with a bit of a longer development period.

It seems to me that ME franchise is a bit more defined and consistent so i don't think there will be some MAJOR changes in ME3.

Changes from DA.O to DA2 were alot more drastic than those from ME1 to ME2, so DA fans don't really know what to expect in DA3.

I may purchase the next DA in the series, if there is one, but only after all the reviews are in. I WILL NOT be ripped off again by EA. The only way I can play DA2 without too much aggrevation and disappointment is to treat is as a really expensive experimental expansion pack with a huge amount of bugs.

I think ToR's failure will be in the beyond reasonable focus on story and dialog.  MMO games are successful based on the formula of quick leveling, simple progression focus to end game content, and then a STRONG developer focus on that end game content.

This leads to the following:

Hardcore players can thrive in end game.
Casual players can thrive with alts and the ability to spend some time with end game content.
Ultra-casual players can thrive in an alt-driven gameplay.

With the heavy instanced-driven dialog focused gameplay Bioware has been touting, I don't think the game will have the lasting appeal that will keep it a top tier MMO.

Why did they even start making TOR? Everyone knows that you don't compete with WoW unless you are ready to lose.

If TOR takes Dragon Age from me (Yes, entitlement is strong in me), I'm going to be so disappointed. Of course if DA3 is more of DA2 then it doesn't matter.

When they came up with the idea WoW was in a bit of a slump I think. Probably figured that WoW would play itself out by the time TOR came around.

TOR seems to be eating up money like a hungry monster. The problem is when you have people who have played WoW for so long you get a lot of people signing up out of curiosity getting "homesick" and going back to what they know.

In my opinion, WoW has done an excellent job in chaining the players to the game. Guilds, friends, constant updates, raids... People won't mass migrate from WoW to TOR. They have too many attachments in WoW to just go play Star Wars.

And pretty much every single MMO-player plays WoW already. They might gather some Star Wars fans, but I don't think it will be enough.:?

I tend to agree with this analysis. Time will tell.

I do know without a doubt that Bioware completely lacks the ability to provide sufficient support for an MMO and the backlash from its buggy release and broken gameplay elements will be huge.

It was easy for me to drop World of Warcraft for Rift because I had little to no attachment to the game even after playing it on and off since launch. People are getting sick of the same old thing with World of Warcraft and most want something new.

I won't be playing The Old Republic because I don't like Star Wars. However, if they make a quality product I can't see it not being a success. I really hope The Old Republic doesn't fail because I could see that being the death strike to Bioware with it costing so much money to produce and make.

Agree on this.
As i mentioned in some other thread, that is one thing that really makes me scared because it seems almost impossible to achieve, even with multi million budget to cover it.

I sure hope not.  If Dragon Age 3 does come to fruition, then hopefully it will be a combination of the first two...bring BACK a lot of the stripped features from the first (and definitely more diverse areas), but keep the combat (maybe just a liiittle slower) and the awesome skill trees of the second.  Also maybe they could merge the art design (I seem to be one of the few that LIKES the art design change....it is NOT anime like so many of you claim)...

From headstart and I must say I am enjoying the game. I took time off to play DA2 and I've been playing some other games inbetween: Hyperdimenson Neptunia, God Eater Burst and Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy. However, when I get into my Rift mind I can play for hours. My friend and I have been progressing pretty well in Rift and for me it's fun. I love being able to not have to quest all day and just run around Rift hunting with him.

10 things to make it feel like WoW and 10 things to make it just another MMO out there.

But let's not derail the topic with SW:TOR. :D

The franchise will not end with DA2.

Bioware spreading its production resources thin by trying to release a new game simultaneously on three platforms might be up for debate, though.

Bottom line is do they think they would make money on a DA3? They suckered a lot of sales of DA2 from DA:O lovers who wanted more of the same and pre-ordered. Those people are now lost and they know it. But do they think the money they spend on making a DA3 will bring them a return in sales.

I'm not buying DA2, and if DA3 comes I'm not buying it either. But I'm just me.

I hope so. I want another Forgotten Realms game. DA setting failed, too generic and uninspiring. The only positive - materialistic basis, wasnt developed as good as it could be. Leliana being resurrected in DA2 by maker if killed in DAO is a major letdown. It could've been most atheistic and logical fantasy setting ever, but alas.

MMO players love the same old. They don't want something super-new, they want World of Starwars.

And no, nobody is allowed to make a joke about DA's fanbase by pointing at my post.

Wait... is he saying there will be no day/night cycle, or that there won't be a 'binary sunset'?

And I'll be happy if the space combat does not 'ruin' SWTOR.
