I'm hoping Laidow will hold true to his word and review the concerns and critiques of fans, and actually consider them when making the next game. We'll just have to wait and see which way this goes. If he truly treats DA2 as the experiment with mixed results that it was, instead of standing by his assertion that it was what they wanted it to be, then I could see DA3 being some sort of middle ground.

You just wait. Soon Laidlaw's syndicate will send people after everyone who has criticized the game on metacritic and here on these forums. All will be removed. Permanently.
They know where you live.

Actually, it seems I made a slight mistake in my estimation of DA:O sales.

1) EA themselves said it was 3.2 million, but that was over a year ago. The breakdown of this was approximately 2 million on the 360 and 1.2 million on the PS3.

2) A later comment confirmed that the PC version had sold more than EITHER of the console versions indvidually, but not in aggregate. This puts PC sales of DA:O between 2 and 3.2 million. I'm leaning more towards the 2 million to be conservative.

So that gives a total of 5.2 million units sold of DA:O, one year ago. How many copies have been sold since? What about the Ultimate edition - that probably added some sales? Maybe add 5 - 10%? It's probably closer to 5.5 million by now.

As far as anything I can find online, ME2 is nowhere near that number, no matter how you add it up. But if you have any evidence to the contrary, please, by all means, present it, and I will retract my statement that Origins far outsold ME2.

ME2 sold 2m its first week and has sold about 400K more just on the 360 than Origins. Console gamers are going to go for the more action type games and ME2 gave that. ME2 sold very poorly on the PS3 and rightfully so, since that platform didn't get ME and I just couldn't fathom playing ME2 with having played ME.

But, since DA:O was on the PS3, it altogether may have outsold ME2.Unfortuantely, we cannot get PC sales numbers. But I remember reading that ME2 actually outsold the 360 its first two weeks. I don't know what Origins did on PC. It isn't going well on PC for DA2, that I do know.

There are probably like 20 of us that enjoy ME1 more than ME2. It's a small elite club. We'll be sending your membership card soon.

make that 21, I am one those that thinks ME is the much better game. Despite what some purist RPGers say about ME, because it has shooter elements, it is a deep RPG.

I'd prefer that they just end Dragon Age at this point. The setting was interesting and had fun elements as introduced, but Dragon Age 2 respects none of those elements and has worn all the fun off of the unique parts of the setting, as well as just disregarding established lore.

So.. yeah, they can make a fantasy RPG. I'd just rather see them start over with a fresh IP and try to treat it with respect this time, or just go back to making Dungeons and Dragons games.

Sorry but screw you. After playing one fantastic title and one terrible title I am not ready to let go :crying:

What about Morrigan!
And Flemeth?
Old God baby?
Warden's that went to the mirror?
Terrance?

The story is far from over and it still has a lot of potential. You don't throw things away that easily!

Those were good questions. I'd like to note that pretty much all of them are from Origins. Given that the choice was made to ignore them for the sequal in favor of a game with no angaotnist, riseing action or unifying conflict, I don't imagine they are ever going to be seriously adressed. Maybe we will get lucky and get a tie in novel though.

The cliffhanger was for DLC's.  I think they will wrap up their final ideas as cheaply as possible with DLC's and close shop.

Well it probably won't be a Dragon Age game at all, but something else; so in all but name I'd say no.

Sorry, but I am a member of that CoD crowd and I don't read books. Unless they have an awesome button.

The end of Dragon Age?

If DA2 is the way they are going for future installments

One can only hope.

With all they invested in IP development prior to Origins, it would be really unfortunate. And I consider it extremely unlikely. Indeed, if EA weren't a factor, I say "no" flat out.

I also don't think DA II sales are a referendum on the DA franchise. They're much more a referendum on whether gamers are willing to pay full price for an unfinished game and, to a lesser extent, do they like the direction in which the game took the franchise.

I certainly hope for DA3. On the other hand, since Laidlaw and co. seem to be very happy with DA2, DA3 might be just the same sh!t. So I hardly care.........

The shooter elements kinda ruined ME1, imo. It could have been so awesome were it not for that....

It's a futuristic game setting, so that's a matter of someopinion and more of taste, and I can respect that. What I find from quite a few who didn't like ME, are those who are (nothng personal) stuck on medeival lore with magic spells, bows and arrows, daggers and swords. RPGs are not limited to D&D lore. I mean ME, IMO is the best story told on an RPG I have ever played. But, the game is set in a futuristic setting, so I wonder what one would expect for weaponry in a game of that setting. IMO, I think DA:O is the best *overall* RPG I have ever played, but I am including all elements of the game. I just think ME was the most engaging for story and characters..

No I don't think this will be the last of the DA franchise.  I personally loved both DAO and DA2, but the people that hated DAO will be even more pissed off if DA stopped here.  I know I would be... just like how I'm pissed off that there's no BG anymore!!!  C'mon Bioware, not even a remake?? :)

Sure there will be more DA. Knowing how game designers and devs work, they will not backtrack in the things many of us have said we don't like in DA2, except in one or two minor details. They'll quite surely keep the new combat system for instance. DA3 will sell less than DA2 and DA4 if any, less than DA3, until the DA line dies.

If they had kept closer to DAO roots the game system would have thrived more. just MHO.

Yes - Revan is canonically male (and light side) - SWTOR will have no import option from KOTOR or KOTOR 2, so the canon stories from both games will be used (meaning the Exile was female, if this is ever mentioned).

However, the game is 300 years later - so it is entirely possible that Revan is in fact dead.  But the trailer makes it look like he might still be alive, waiting for something.

That's certainly not my canon -- Bioware certainly didn't canonize any gender in KOTOR1. Revan IS female as far as I am concerned. I could care less about TOR.

all the naysayers are insanely annoying. da2 is still a good game. it takes a bit to get used to and obviously EA were real slave drivers, making them produce this game in under a year of dev time while keeping a steady stream of dlc going. but the brilliant writing is still there and the world is just as immersive and amazing. you just have to give it a chance

as for the leliana thing, that kinda stinks. but at the same time, bioware tracks stats. so if 99.9% of players didn't kill leliana, and they take note of all the leliana loving topics in the da:o forums, maybe they hoped to make her an important part of da3 which will probably be in orlais. it's hard to please everyone. we gamers like cameos but often wish former squadmates had more prominent roles. in order to justify paying an actress to record hundreds of lines of dialogue for an integral role, they needed to make her alive in everyone's storyline.

It should be enough that a certain % hardened her, since, at least the choices I made moved her away from the Chantry.

& It's for me only a sign of how broken the story will be for me if I ever touch DA3, which I'm currently planning to stay away from unless there is some change in the current direciton of DA.

& As for how good the game is, that's mostly up to taste and opinion and so on, and I do find it to be a mediocre game, and a bad story, not a good one.

I don't understand why so many of you are SO disappointed with DA:2. I thought it was refreshing. DA:O was much like ME1 in my opinion. GREAT game, but the game play was so freaking slow.

I prefer DA:O to DA2. I prefer ME1 to ME2. And not out of a sense of nostalgia, I always play ME1 prior to a ME2 playthrough. I just like the first game more.

I also think DA2 combat is too fast and I would love a COMBAT SPEED SLIDER TO  slow it down.

I don't hate any of these games.

I do think Bioware is horrible at QA/Testing and their customer service is pathetic.

Of course. I prefer DA:O's indepthness(word? I think not, I'm just gonna go with it) as opposed to DA:2.  What I absolutely freaking love about DA:2 is the level of attention you have to pay when fighting(you don't really have to, I have to, to avoid dying lol), I feel more involved than I did in DA:O. Being bored for me is psychological death and it's a huge win when my brain is constantly occupied.

I really, really like that idea. I can understand how it can be too quick, I didn't like it at first, but now I just can't go back to the unbelievable slowness of DA:O lol. But yeah, that's a really good idea.

Actually, it has nothing to do with Bioware.  Bioware have no power to canonise anything in the Star Wars universe as they do not own the IP.  Lucasarts are the ones who canonised Revan being male.  If you don't care about TOR, why are you posting in a begrudging manner about Revan being male in it?

Revan is canonically male.  Because the people who own the IP say so - there isn't much more to it than that.

I still don't get how some people can praise Baldur's Gate in one sentence, then the next sentence bash DA2 for having bugs and bringing "dead" characters back.  BG2 had tons and tons of bugs, and.... they brought "dead" characters back... >.>;  Yet DA2 sucks for doing these things, but BG2 is the greatest CRPG of all time?

I don't get it. lol
