Its because Gaider did the pre-release interviews so he is the one people associate with the development of the game. We all know how daft people are. IMO the big problem with DA2 was the design goals that were lined out for the game. Trying to make an epic game that surrounds a "streamlined" concept where you have limited development time and need to reuse level assets does not work. I think probably the restriction (decided by EA) on levels(maps and art) and voice acting during development made it difficult to write content and story around.

For the simple fact that everything must always be somebody's fault.

the endgame story really sucked... i mean it couldnt suck more..(i will only mention these chars: anders and orsino).he was the lead writer and hes deffo to blame however i liked the fact that this was a political story and i saw what they tried to do thar but as usual the execution was simply luckluster, though gaiders not blame about that)

David Gaider is a bit more than 'just a writer' considering he imagined the whole DA universe pretty much.

I've seen far more of this committed by his attackers.

He himself, while firm in his beliefs, always struck me as classy, friendly and down to earth. (Based on his posts here)

Who also wrote the 2 Dragon Age books, which were actually very good, I guess you can't make gold all the time, writing the 2 books and Origins must have taken alot out of him, or he was just too pressed for time to really come up with a great DA2 story...it probably would have been easier for him to stay in Ferelden and come up with a story from that...hell, maybe even made a story about the first blight or something, take us back into time to a golden age or something, or even the war with Orlais...man, after I read the first book i wanted to be there for the uprising against Orlais.

Jealousy I'd say. I'm sure David is not too concerned. He's the lead writer for one of the most successful dialogue/rpg based game companies out there. He's a twice published author. It's fashionable to blast successes in this world.

I do not agree with all the game/writing decisions that BioWare makes by any means but in most cases people have made up their minds about a game or author well in advance of anything they put out there.

David Gaider is the man, you all remind me of fair weather fans. When DAO came out you loved him, with DA2 you hate him. I liked DA2 so i am not upset with him in the slightest but dont get mad at him after one game, you adored DAO remember

I actually agree with him on that one.  BG2 streamlined BG is some of the same ways that ME2 did with ME.

And in both cases, I think the sequel was the lesser game.

There have been civil discussions that have happened here, stop being ignorant...

Just because there have been alot of rants and raves doesn't mean this whole board should just be ignored, alot of wonderful points and counter points have been made and should at least be read through once.

Exactly. Plus, Bioware was known for their amazing stories in their games and DA II for many ppl (including me) didn't have (even) that. David Gaider is the lead writer, so 1+1=2.

Its perfectly fair and legitimate to give praise, and criticism, where its due. We all know that Dave is capable of some really awesome writing, you don't even have to be familiar with his books to know that, you can just have played DAO and you'd know that. DA2 was not his finest work, of course he had a team of writers and we don't know exactly who wrote what, but I imagine the same was true of DAO, the fact is as the leader you get the credit when its good and the blame when its bad, thats the way it goes, and its pretty much entirely appropriate, since the leader is responsible for the quality of all of it, whether they actually wrote it all or not. Nobody can write a masterpiece every time, he's only human, and DA2 was a good example of that. Hopefully he will learn from what went wrong in DA2 and make DA3 just as awesome, or maybe even moreso, than DAO was.

Well, David Gaider was the one who posted about the stages of grief, which was a little over the top too, what it said to me was he thinks that we're overreacting and comparing the changes to DA2 to dying slowly in a hospital bed....which is absurd, my life will go on without DA2, but I would like to see games from this company that I willa ctually be able to enjoy again, which is why I am here...criticizing the work, if noone criticized, then Bioware won't know what's wrong, and won't know to fix it, and may go in even deeper of a hole if they make more changes that even more people disagree with...see where I'm getting at with this? The writing certainly was an aspect of this game that could have been done alot better. Imagine if Stephen King were writing the novels he did through the 90's and into today, then all of a sudden he came out with Twilight...you'd probably crap yourselves if you were a Stephen King fan.

although i havn't got da2 i think he did a good job with the short amount of time EA gave them to make da2
the only reason i didn't get da2 was because i couldn't be an elf silly i know but i hold all games with charecter creation to high standards

This.

Some people simply equate their dislike of a product to a person whose name they know. Period.  It isn't even logical.  But then again, neither is baseless hatred and people do that too.

I like DA:O.  I have my disappointments with DA2.  And god forbid, I still like David Gaider's stuff because for some reason I didn't think he was the only person working on this game, alone in a darkened corner of the Bioware office while the whole rest of the team went out for happy hour each day...

I didn't get the memo that one disappointment had to completely eradicate all that was and is good from Bioware.
(Please don't forward that memo to me if you have a copy, thanks!)

A mod allows you to play as an elf if you play your games on the PC.

Last person I would blame is Gaider, the core story shows promise of being epic, and there are some bits of epicness in the game.

I blame whoever decided to rush and make Dragon Age into Mass Effect Medieval. And I know that wasn't Gaider.
