I think he was a little bit in love with Elthina. Mind you, I don't think he had a sexual thought about her in his life, but he would have given his life for her and spent a lot of time just talking to her, being in her presence. He was in awe of the woman. If they'd met in some alternate universe in which they were roughly the same age (give or take a decade) and neither was promised to the maker... well, you can probably imagine. No, seriously, go ahead and imagine it.

Marjolaine comes to mind... Isabela too... not too many records of Leli preferring MEN... a male Warden, and Zevran in the 4some are the only POSSIBLE men for her. of course isabela is an optional as well. The only iron clad case for a Leli preference in Marjolaine...

Sebastian is celibate... and I think he's fine with that. Why does he need a woman? His perfect woman is Elthina. A mother figure who is too old to be a sexual interest, and thus not tempt him from his vows. If he ever wanks off, it's obviously to Andraste.
That or he secretly pines for Fenris. C'mon, they had a total bromance going on.

Also, I assume he has a chastity belt latched on so he could only go so far when it comes to carnal desires. If course he would probably just go flog himself or something if it got to heated between him and his partner.
As for the perfect woman.. I don't think one exists who could tolerate his lifestyle in game. Only one I see as a good fit is another member of the chantry. Maybe a sweet mage from the circle. Bethany perhaps? I could see a relationship between a chantry brother and a mage.. forbidden of course so it is actually interesting.

Not gonna lie. Did a whole play through where I killed my LI Anders just so if they make a DLC with Seb being more of a romance interest I can go for it. Though like with Anders I guess, I like who they WERE. If Sebastian became more like how he was before he went to the chantry then hot damn, cause I love me some scoundrels. Hopefully rivaling him might do that, but if not I can always hope Anders stops being so sadface.

What is the big opposition against Sebastian?
His religion takes alot of his character, but really the only thing he does is worship a god everyone but Merrill recognizes as real anyway.

Probably the fact that he demands you kill Anders, which annoys people who need Anders as a healer in the last part of the game or just prefer Anders outright, and if you don't, he abandons you saying he'll bring back an army to level Kirkwall. Thus he is immediately villified into being a crazy religious zealot.
Which is kinda stupid to be honest. Anders has only just murdered someone who was like a mother to him. Of course he's upset, of course he's swearing elaborate revenge. It's only just happened. He's still in shock and has no time at all to grieve or deal with the shock. So yes, his vengeance on all Kirkwall thing is kinda overdoing things, but that's the damn point. At that particular moment he's not in his right mind and judging him on that particular moment is immature and silly. No one is a bastion of calm and sanity when their mother/mother-figure has just been murdered in front of them and its unfair and hypocritical to demand that of Sebastian.
As for the banter he has with Fenris about turning Merril and Anders over to the Templars, well, think about it from Sebastian's point of view: Anders is an abomination and Merril no matter how cute she is, is a practicing blood mage who deals with demons.
For what it's worth, Sebastian's banter with Merril both before and after her personal quest is a hell of a lot more polite and nice than either Anders or Fenris.

Personally i can't relate, the only fight i haven't been able to win in Nightmare without a healer is the one against the High Dragon, so i never had any trouble role playing the whole thing through (thus killing Anders)
To be fair Anders didn't just kill his mother, he also kinda destroyed the building that represents everything Sebastian beleives in.
Anders = Osama Bent Larsen.
