In the end of the game, it appears that Leliana is looking for the Warden. But why? My Warden died! Leliana saw my corpse at the funeral with her own eyes! Why would she suddenly decide to "look for him"?

You played DA:O wrong, start again and do it right.

When does Leliana ever say she is looking for the Warden? All that is said is the Warden is gone.

Yeah, she doesn't say that she's looking for either of them, but she implies that Hawke is needed to quell the rebellion--which doesn't actually make sense in all possible characterizations of Hawke. The main point there is that both have disappeared, and she doesn't think it's a coincidence.

As was said above, if your warden is dead, then the Orlesian warden who went to Amaranthine is the one who disappeared.

If you don't import from DA:O, the canon Warden is a Male Cousland Warrior who does the deed with Morrigan. If you actually play DA:O it's pretty obvious that's meant to be the main story considering how important the Cousland's are to Ferelden to begin with and how big a role the Howe's play in both DA:O and Awakening.

I do like that the DA:O human Mage is Hawke's second cousin.

Anyways on topic: No mater your Origin or whether or not you follow Morrigan through the Eluvian the Warden disappears sometime between the end of Act 3 and Varric's interrogation (which seems to be a 3 year gap or so). If Allistair is king he mentions they need to get back to Denerim to meet up with the Warden and deal with Orlesian issues. Somewhere in that 3 year gap either Witch Hunt takes place or something else happens.

a) You fail at sarcasm

B) I swear I'm going to force the next person who calls default canon write DEFAULT IS NOT CANON on a chalk board 10,000 times.

Witch Hunt only takes place a few years after Origins which is before Act 3. A dev even said that they didn't even use the Witch Hunt choices for anything in DA2, and that's why King Alistair is excpeting the Warden to be back during Act 3 even you have a Warden that should have gone through the mirror.
