Yeah but the romans didn't enslave a specific group of people and I dont think a specific group of people have ever been enslaved by the one group for 1000 years.

So the mages have pretty much been pretty much under the chantrys thumb locked in their towers (or at least open magic has been banned) since 1.1 Divine.. It is now 9.40 Dragon, the mages began their rebellion from the circles in 9.37 dragon... So Why did it take a whole 937 years for them to get fed up? Why? How? did it take so long. I mean.. thats almost a millenium!! What have they been doing all this time? Why were they under chantry authority for soo long? I mean they have gone through what? 18-19 annulments and it took that many for them to care? I mean the way "Sister Nightingale" talks it seems like the mages would have taken action even without anders.. probably would have just taken longer I guess, But yeah with that new fraternatie and the cumberland events.. But why did it take them 937 years before they decided they'd had enough? I still cant get over how long that is.

Why has it taken over two THOUSAND years for homosexuals to finally be open about who and what they are and start fighting for their right of equality?
The answer is simple: If you are told that your mere existance is an abomination for your entire life... You'll begin to believe it. And then, chance and circumstance will bring about a wave of change... and you (the oppressed individual) will begin to question "why do I put up with this?" and may even go the perfectly logical route that Orsino did of "If they expect me to be an abomination... I will give those [bad words] what they want!". This is what oppressed groups of people do. They cope with the opression by having minor stalkholm syndrome until it becomes too much and then break.
Ironically, if the Templar order wasn't so involved with keeping the mages in line... I doubt this little war would have happened. What should have been was a troupe of priests guarding the mages with a very small token force of Templars for the priests' protection (and in case of a nasty abomination...). Keeping the bulk of the templars roaming and/or in the barracks of a stronghold in a nation's capital... You don't need more than 12 templars to keep a single abomination from escaping and running rampant.... Mainly because I'm pretty sure that the mages around wouldn't just stand there as a giant demon janked their former friend's body...
But that was not the case.

I will just mention that the Rite of Anullment has been invoked in the past several times along the Circles. What makes this occassion special is the coordination of the rebellion, not the rebellion per se.

That and the fact that Meredith's invocation of the rite was inappropriate.

And yet the Right was going to be formed in Ferelden with far less of an abomination to mage ratio..

That was because the blood mages and abominations were in full control of the tower. Meredith called annulment on an entire Circle for the actions of an apostate not even affiliated with it (and she knew it).

idk if she knew it, I mean the idol made her kind of nuts.. im sure what was really going through her mind is "Muhaha I'm princess stabity, stab kill kill"

I think it only amplified her zealotry up into the crazy zone rather than obliterating all rational thought from her mind.

The main reason it existed is probably for the sake of an anime style end bossfight.

Sure! I am sure that the people taken from Africa to the Arab world and America were Boers!

Oh wait!

The Circle isn't the most desirable option, but it does WORK when the people in charge aren't idiots. Look at how well Irving and Gregoir worked together for the sake of both mages and templars, to the point where the First Enchanter's word was all it took for the Knight Commander to rethink the right of Annulment. And how in the mage Origin you see them work together to weed out potential Blood Mages.

Orsino tried to cover for known blood mages in Kirkwall as we see in the letter he sent your mother's killer, and Merideth had no respect for the man that should have been her partner in protecting mages from demons and protecting the populace at large from blood mages and abominations.

The only reasonable option is if Templars and Mages work together, because if either side tries to overrule the other you get people turning to forbidden magic out of fear and desperation, or people like the magisters doing it because no one stops them and to keep their jobs and even their lives they need to show their peers they aren't "weak".And you NEED a force dedicated to anti-magic combat to make sure there is an adequate defense against abominations running around murdering entire villages

They have never been slaves to a single organisation for 1000 years though.. My point.

That was only adult male homosexuality, and it was only permissible for recreational purposes. Male homosexuals were still required to marry women, and female homosexuality was considered abhorrent (really, any female sexuality in general was frowned upon).

Well, until the Roman Empire, at least. Then women were allowed to, you know, enjoy themselves instead of getting locked up in a corner of a house all day. They were even allowed positive role models in literature that weren't all tame housewives, or mythological figures!

Of course, the funny thing is that those stories were generally set in the classical period (yeah, as if Hermocrates would have actually let Callirhoe pick her own husband!).
