Okay, I HAVE to post in here, since I've just been debating the whole "how did the Reapers get here" thing, when I actually LOVED this DLC.

I absolutely loved the cinematics, the music (who composed?), the fact that it was a solo mission!!  YES!  I loved how imposing the reaper threat felt.  I loved seeing Shepard being stuck out on her own and struggling for survival.  Overall this is exactly the direction I want ME3 to go in.  This was a good taste of things to come, and it was pretty much perfect for me.

And, MY GOD, Shepard struggling against indoctrination was like a hint of this.  *shivers down my spine*

Good:
The Music.
Admiral Hackett returns and speaks to you in person.
Going solo is fun.
Varied combat situations.
Everything after the good doctor blows herself up is epic.
You get to blow up a solar systerm with irony.

The Bad:
No Seth Green
"Plastic" low texture Normandy when it picks you up.
No choices.
Barely any difference in enemy types. Killed one, killed them all.
Far too short.
Despite blowing up a solar system, it felt like nothing happened but set-up for ME3.
Some weird lapses in logic and little plot holes.

Just a heads up, this is going to be a little off topic in the beginning but I'll get to my review eventually. Skip straight to the bottom if you want to read just my review.

Alright, so I've been lurking these forums forever. I never post anything mainly because I have more fun reading other peoples thoughts on certain things (speculation on stuff like Haestrom, or things like what to do with rachni or the geth, or further speculation on things people pick out from trailers like the one released for ME3). Anyways...I came into the mass effect universe after getting sick of games with little to no narative. The Mass Effect series of games was super fresh to me. I didn't even play ME1 until middle of last year, and now that I've done multiple playthroughs of both ME1 and ME2 I've jumped into all the dlc in one go.

My biggest issue with these games is the community of close nit fans. I know that some people just like to complain, and I also know that not everyone is going to like EVERYTHING that Bioware will release for dlc. I just think some of you need to chill out a little. Everything here is sooooooo freaking negative all the time these days. A lot of times I find myself closing threads not because they have things I don't want to hear, but because 90% of it is people whining.

"I have lost all faith in Bioware because I heard DA2 sucked, and this dlc didn't have enough dialogue options"
or
"I'm cancelling my ME3 pre-order because this dlc is obviously exactly what ME3 is going to be like"

Now these aren't direct quotes, but I've seen stuff similar to this all over the place after Arrival (okay, the latter might be a tad bit sarcastic). Now yes you have a right to your opinion, but take things for face value. I read enough prior to arrival coming out, that I knew a couple things for certain. It would not take me on some 5 hour journey with a whole new story, and it was merely a way for me to see what happened in between the SM and ME3 with the possible arrival of the reapers. I don't read into the hype that much because I don't want to ruin the experience I'm going to have. Whenever there's a new dlc I read the speculation, and some of the info. No spoilers, and none of the hype. I don't like to build my expectations up only to have them crushed because it's not as awesome as I want it to be. It's like complaining about a movie because what you wanted to happen doesn't....a movie is produced to give you a certain experience. You can read, speculate, and believe the hype and rumors to be true all you want. It's not going to change the fact that a certain person you want to live dies, or something you don't want to happen does happen.

I'm not the best writer, probably because I don't write often. I'm not trying to tell anyone they are wrong. Believe and think whatever you want. I've just been getting sick of reading negativity about EVERYTHING Bioware does.

DA2 (which was different, but I still enjoyed even though I had my gripes)
Clint Mansell (Brilliant composer to say the least.)
Arrival (get to that in a sec)
Plot holes in ME2 (whatever, this is a huge can of worms I'm not going into, just stating it for the record)
and I'm sure I could list more if I sat here and thought about it, but I've put enough time into this post already.

Now onto what I thought about Arrival:

I enjoyed it. For what I paid, and for what I was told it would be I can't complain. It's not necessary to play ME3, but it gives me some insight into why ME3 might start out a certain way. I am worried that the 2 years that will go by will mean losing squadmates, but only time will tell.

The good:
~Hackett
~Combat (it felt weird with no squad mates, but I adjusted. Loved how cover based it was)
~Music (I wasn't sure about it at first, but by the end I was loving it)
~Rho Artifact fight (Brilliant!)
~Sacrifice (this I'll touch on in my closing)
~Vaccum fight at the end

Bad:
~Shortish (dlc's are never as long as you want them to be)
~In comparison to other dlc, I felt this did lack some dialogue options and a good boss fight although the rho artifact fight was pretty good. In order, I think I'd have to vote LotSB, Arrival, and then Overlord.

Other thoughts:
~Sacrifice. Although we weren't given much choice in the matter, those batarians had to be sacrificed one way or another. The way I look at it, if I didn't kill them, the reapers would have when they entered the system. For the first time, you were forced to kill some (not just someone you were emotionally connected to like on Virmire) to save MANY. Even if it was only to delay the reaper threat. This showed some balls on Biowares behalf. Of course your not going to like having to massacre what was it? 300,000 batarians? Then again at that point, what else can you really do to delay the reapers? Spit at them? It had to be done like it or not.
~Bugs. I didn't deal with any, but I'm reading about people who had big time slow downs or graphical issues. I might be a minority because I play on a beast of a machine (I'm a video editor in real life, so this is both my editing rig and my gaming computer), but it's still troubling. Maybe it wasn't optomized enough? Not enough qc?

All in all, I enjoyed my experience. I do wish to see more RPG elements in ME3, but I did not expect them to change anything like that in a 1 hour dlc. Thank you Bioware.

Was I the only one who laughed a bit during the ending convo with Hackett?

About the complaints about Shep being put on trial, remember, Shep accepted it. He chose to go to trial to defend his actions. This is certainly a way of showing the character´s military honor, and also to be able to, again, talk about how blind the Council and everyone else was before the invasion. I think he knows that a "show-trial" is the best way to get the necessary attention.

I think it could actually be a good ending to the franchise. After you defeat the Reapers, if you accepted the trial, you could use it to change the balance of power, and to change planetary politics, etc. A large exchange of dialogue, and not just the regular trial that is a trademark on BW games.

The shooter fans would dislike it, but I think it could be very nice for a RPG, to be able to settle large scale galactic politics, and to have more than one epilogue on the game. One for big decisions, and another, maybe, to deal with individual people, like your squad mates. Games usually overlook that, and sometimes just give the written version (the slide-show version, ugh...). I would love to be able to play it.

Admiral Hacket (mans a legend)

.
Lone wolf! Loved the fact we could take a break a from our crew and go all solo but I wouldn't like this perminently ... I'd miss Thane, Garrus and Kasumi's input!

.
Fighting for your life! I loved every moment, I loved the fact I was overpowered and that I could still woop their asses! I also like how you've showed Shepard isn't destructable ... being knocked out was awesome ... lol that may sound weird, I also loved when Shepard was blasted away when choosing not to shoot Kenson, only to wake with minutes left, the whole trying to run for your life thing was awesome and when the VI told me communications were fried and shepard went dammit I totally gaped.

.
Liked the enviroment, the prison was cool and the project facility was awesome!

. Playing as a mechs! ;) epic

. Cutscenes (especially when you sag over the galaxy map as the place gets destroyed

Disliked:
.
Choices, the choices themselves were awesome and I loved the plot but I wish they had more impact on the DLC, If I had been able to warn the batatrians not all of them could of escaped in that hour  and some could still have been killed but I hated having to kill all of them.

.
Could of been a bit longer but the time I got out of its alright.

Thats all the feed back I have, I loved this DLC very much and I have really enjoyed playing it, can't wait to see about this whole trial, wonder if because of my whole colonist background that they might accuse me of commiting a whole revengful terrorist act ... hopefully I'll have my message attempt to back me up though .. things aren't looking good for poor 'lil me Image IPB

Okay. In the style of some people, i'm gonna do this in Likes and Dislikes. Cause, you know, i want to make things simple and... yeah. I dont know where I'm going with this.

SPOILERS!!

Likes:
-Concept. Seriously, Indoctrinated scientists were good!
-Stealth. Because, you know, part of SPECTRE is Recon, and Shepard so far has kinda been a bit shooty shooty.
-No more new weapons: because really, there is nowhere else to use them. Oh yay, i have a death ray. lets use it on these 8 guards and one YMIR mech.

Dislikes
-Absence of squad. seriously, the squad is one of the stronhest parts of ME, you could have at least had them for part of the mission.
-Locations. lots of buildings? *yawn*
-Not being able to ask Hackett whether he's related to Zaeed. because now i'll be stupendously curious for 4 months.
-Lack of epic final battle. Because this is the last fight i will be in ill ME3, and i could have done with a big, fancy climax to make me want ME3.
-LACK OF CHOICE! this is a biggy, and the main reason why my score for you is so low. Mass Effect is billed as an RPG. in an RPG, the main point is charcter choice. Especially in a Bioware game. so to release a £5.49 game pack with no choices in it is a serious problem UNLESS the choices you do make impact on ME3 somehow- in which case, you probably should have told us that.

So I give it a C+ personally: good moments, but lacking the soul which makes it a Bioware product.

I liked DLC a lot, and here is my feedback:

1. Mission itself was too short, althogh I like story in it.
2. Finally some challange for highly skilled players, but still too easy (consider creating higher difficulty setting than insanity, madness or spartan difficulty would be good)
3. I liked prison stealth part but I did it only once for achievement, so it's not a big deal. I'd find it useful in flanking during Reaper wars though.
4. Cool idea to control a LOKI-Mech, it's hard to imagine what would happen if Shepard "Assumes Direct Control" of YMIR Mech :)
5. I liked seeing Admiral Hackett, although he looks like modified Zaeed to me.
6. I liked object Rho and battle for it. Kinda creepy seing Kensons yellow glowin eyes. Make sure ME community will see more Reaper agents in ME3.
7. I liked easter egg with Sovereign painted on a wall (blood paint).
8. Dialogue with Harbinger reminds me of Sovereign dialogue back in ME1, but in this dialogue Shepard was just too weak if renegade option is chosen.
9. Make sure when Reapers arrive in ME3, it will be so intense many people will go crazy and heads explode!
10. Some very small shader glitches in a few moments in game, but still acceptable.
11. I liked Arrival soundtrack, especially the one during destruction of mass relay.
9/10. Some things needs to be fined. Make sure ME3 will be the most epic game ever created in gaming history! :wizard:

I might have been okay with it if:
1. There was a choice in what to do, if you could actually warn the civilians vs some other option.
2. If what you did felt like it actually mattered. Of course blowing up the Mass Relay is important if the Reapers are actually going to show up, but it didn't feel like you averted a crisis. This DLC had no impact on the world, the Reapers might as well still be in dark space. That's what I don't like. You play this DLC and it's like nothing ever happened, but you still have to go on trial. It felt so pointless.

+I loved that hacked mech moment
+Story, could been better but still good

-No choices
-Had hoped for Ashley/Kaidan
-Also I would like if squadmates would comment how mission turned out (I would like that in every DLC)
-Short
-No squad
-Fact that my first thought when I saw Hackett was that he must be Zaeeds long lost brother or something
-Bugs
-I hope you actually could warn the civilians
-It felt senseless to do this mission before suicide mission

To make it short it could have been much better

I found it quite underwhelming. Given that it's the last DLC for Mass Effect 2, I was expecting more gameplay.

Assuming Bioware has enough resources to deal with this parallel development of DLCs, they should have worked on making a much larger DLC and release it way later this year. Hell, charge 1600 points for it if you must.

They've been pretty good at keeping us busy by releasing missions, armor, weapons, comics and so on, at regular intervals to keep us interested until the next game is here, but the timing (and size) of Arrival is way off...

Liked:

Nice music.
Nice scenarios (but is interesting to see that the Meteor base, being a rush project to stop Reaper invasion seens to found some time to add decorative itens like plants).
The Harbinger was way to cool (but very short, they could have spoken more). Also, according to the books, the death of a Reaper don't mean a real death, but the destruction of physhical body, in this, Sovereign could be alive and being uploaded into another vessel. Would be cool se see him treating Sheppard.

Disliked.

Way to easy.
Way to short.
No moral dilemas. No great choices to make.
A question rises up (why Sheppard and people around him don't feel indoctrination?! Sheppard must be a very strong willed person, or have a "anti-indoctrination" Mass Effect Field around him).
The plot seems to be against ME1 and ME2, who, at all, for the Reaper treat to Galaxy seemed pointless.
Why just they don't came up after the Sovereign "death"?! Two years ago? They would have arrived by now. Making a human Reaper was illogical.

"Just my opinion though, no need go out spreading."^^

And....
If someone fail in Arrival DLC, making the Reaper invasion faster, this means that ME3 would come faster?!

I thought it was really short. A lot of the levels were reused from the main game. The no teammates thing sucked, and I felt it was there just because it would of been too expensive to get the voice actors back. There was just nothing original in this dlc. Same old generic enemies. Same old same old.

EDIT: What I said seemed overly harsh, but that's what I thought. I downloaded this DLC thinking it was going to be original like Shadow Broker. Thought it was going to be pretty long. 4-5 hours. I was just hoping for something new and original. I don't regret downloadig it though. I'd buy it again.

I have played through Arrival three times and just like LOTSB, I will complete it for each of my playthroughs. While I enjoyed it, I don't think it's as emotionally engaging as the others. I understand that the Batarian sacrifice is necessary, but Shepard commits to it without batting an eye. Kenson's indoctrination and the Rho artifact were interesting, but I'm glad the latter was destroyed as I was worried it would become some deus ex machina in ME3. Shepard's conversation with Hackett was good. Additionally, the speech towards Harbinger was as inspiring as others Shep has given. There are, however, two points of dialogue that worry me:

Once Shep and Kenson reach the Asteroid station he says something along the lines of, "The Reapers could reach Earth in two days?" And then again when speaking to Harbinger he makes it seem like the Reaper threat is primarily a human concern. I get that Shepard has attracted their scrutiny. I can't speak for everyone else, but for me, ME3 will fail if it's too earth-centric.

Otherwise, I'm excited to see the Batarian conflict presented in the frame of the Reapers' Arrival. In regards to the trial, there has been some speculation that the it and jail time will reset Shepard's skills. I really hope that isn't the case, but I won't hold my breath for skills carrying over.

Gameplay wise, I thought it was okay. It made me realize just how much I rely on squadmates. But, if solo missions are utilized in ME3, I really hope Shepard has someone to talk to other than himself. Joker, EDI, whomever. Visually, it was nice to be in a new environment. It might seem miniscule, but I like the splash of blue in the doors and walls. Unlike some, I barely noticed the music. And yeah, Joker could have said something.

All in all, I think Arrival achieved its purpose of bridging the two games and set up another intriguing conflict. I can't wait for ME3.

Having recently just finished playing The Arrival I have to admit to being somewhat disapointed with this DLC. To me parts of it felt rushed and poorly thought out - as if BioWare just wanted to get this final DLC out of the way and out so they could focus on finishing off Mass Effect 3.

There are some parts of the DLC that I did like. The single combat was a nice new twist and it certainly forced me to be a hell of alot more careful with my Adept-class Shepard than I normally am. Died a few times before I figured out the right way of approaching the combat on my own without squad support. The locations were also impressive and the music was good but their were other parts that just had me shaking my head.

The three biggest areas that I didn't like that much were the way they handled the destruction of the Alpha Relay. Whacking it with a giant hunk of rock kind of contradicted the fact that relays are virtually indestructable and it contradicted the fact that the Mu Relay survived an even more castrophic event with only some minor carbon scoring i.e it survived the destruction of the star via supernova in its original system. Certainly the Mu Relay remained fully operational despite suffering minor damage. Come on BioWare you can do better than that. If you were going to blow up a relay try something more original than a giant rock.

The second major gripe is where the hell was the Virmire survivor? BioWare promised again and again that the Virmire survivor issue would be addressed in future DLC but they didn't keep their promise.

Finally the whole mission felt pointless - especially the little talk with Harbinger at the end before the relay's destruction.

All in all the Arrival while not a bad DLC is very mediocre. It certainly doesn't live up to the standards set in Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker. At least to my mind it doesn't.

I'm not a gamer. My husband is. However, I'm a huge sci-fi geek, and when husband-the-gamer discovered Mass Effect, I was in complete awe. I started playing and couldn't stop for 2½ playthroughs (something happened and we lost our saves Image IPB). What attracted me to the game, other than the amazing universe that was created, was the story-based RPG gameplay. Making important moral choices, choosing your characters path, even choosing the kind of relationships he/she has with his/her own crewmates.

Changes were made in ME2 and it started going more in the shooter-style game, and now with Arrival... Can we still call this a RPG? There was great potential for important choices in it. We could have had the choice to try to save the Batarians, at least, but we don't. Whether or not we succeed in defending Object Rho, we end up knocked out, with barely any time to get out of the base, never mind warning the Batarians. I also would have liked to be able to take squadmates with me.

On a positive note, the story and urgency are compelling. 6/10

I really liked this dlc and when I checked Sheps messages in his quarters and see Hacketts face, I thought that was cool! Overall I liked the different enviroments and layout, it was refreshingly different.
However, while trying to find the doc and rescuing her ...came across controls for moving container but not sure what the purpose for that was...if it was a puzzle, then I did not get it and may have done something wrong.
I liked the surprises like saving prisoner and prisoner turns on Shep and overall liked seeing Shep on his own. Shep talking to Hackett in person in med bay reminded me of the first Mass Effect.

Overall, I really liked it!

I think if this had been the first DLC released for Mass Effect 2, it would have been received a lot better. It's pretty solid all around... gameplay, story, music, etc... If it had come out when I was still running through the entire game about every other week, I'd have felt I got my moneys worth.

As is, it just feels a little underwhelming and I think there are two reasons why.

1.) It's short. Like, really short. It's hard to build up a story to an awesome climax when you're sprinting through it in 45 minutes even on hard difficulties.

2.) Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord were just so amazing. Bioware really raised the bar with those two DLC releases and as a result "pretty darn good" is no longer good enough.

Barely on topic, but I'd like to thank Bioware for following through with the promise they made to support Mass Effect 2 with some quality DLC to bridge the gap. We were promised that with the first game and were treated to one good and one abysmal DLC. This time though, they really came through.

I really expected so much from this, hoping that it was the same as LotSB. Although as an avid fan of the Mass Effect series, any addition to the story would be great but it still didn't match my expectations. I remember being so hyped about the DLC when they said this would be the bridge between ME2 and ME3. I thought Bioware would cover all aspects, not just bridging the plot but as well as Shep's relationships with his squadmates and LI and how this "bridge" mission will prepare them against the Reapers.

Again, anything by Bioware is worth the money but I wish it had more impact.
