Mass Effect Arrival feedback thread

It might have taken the artists hard works and thousands of brush strokes to finish the beautiful painting. The fans gather around in awe and rejoice of such wonderful painting. The painting might even be worth millions of dollars.
But what would happen if we get a single brush stroked of red paint across the painting, would'tn it diminish the value of it greatly?
Well Arrival did that for Mass Effect 2. unless Bioware restores this master piece the series will loose all the value it has gain.

My breakdown:
Enjoyed
-the environmental interactions. Liked blowing off panels, cutting power, turning cranks to close valves. Made things feel a little less static. Could have placed door control panels a little farther away and included a circuit hack (although I'm sure everyone is getting sick of that mini game).
-the artefact. LOVED the battle and taunts, including the 'did I just die? what happened?' moment when you are overwhelmed
-references to Shepard’s now superior physiology. Little reminders of story details help to keep things in perspective I think...
-hacking a mech and controlling it to break out of confinement. Loved that.
-the stakes. Even though you don't really get to choose whether you blow up the relay, this mission and a great sense of urgency and collateral damage... having to choose the lesser of two evils. It was refreshing to see some real sacrifices, other than just military personnel.
- being able to see the mass relay approaching from inside the station and as I fought on the roof.
-solo mission. I love my squadies, and as much as I drag Garrus everywhere, it wasn't terrible that this was a solo mission. I do understand that paying all the other actors to do voice work for DLC is just not practical. This Shepard only mission was a nice change.
Not so Great:
-the stealth idea was a good idea, although as an infiltrator, as soon as you use your cloak you are detected. Seems a little backwards.
-the prison was pretty small and there were no other prisoners? there also should have been more gore and more grittiness.
-would have liked to have seen some evidence of indoctrination with Shepard. If he/she was exposed to the artefact for 2 days, you'd think there would be something going on. Even if it were just a creepy voice trying to talk you out of fighting.
-the confrontation with the reaper at the end SHOULD have been awesome and scary... but it was a little too civil. Not sure I can come up with alternatives, but for me it didn't quite fit.
To finish my compliment sandwich I would say I was really looking forward to this release, and I was not disappointed. Good story, good visuals... loved it.
The only thing I can't figure out is how they will tie this into ME3 for all those people who can't/don't buy DLC. Looking forward to having my team break me out of prison on earth after being condemn by the galaxy for being crazy and killing +300 000 people. WOOO!

If they want those events to part of the ME3 storyline, they will tie them in anyway.

Ok, great art aside, I'd say this DLC was an excellent addition fo the series. Lets face it, there's still a long time before we see ME3, so I'd say for the price this did exactly what it needed to do - give the ME junkies a little relief from the withdrawal.

I see your point there. Hopefully ME3 will have a much bigger thump factor.

However, a few great moments saved it from being an abject failure.
I loved the fact that it was a solo mission, although as an Infiltrator I probably wasn't best suited to deal with enemies alone en masse. There should have been much more dialogue, though. And confrontation with Harbinger should have been ten times longer, although my Shepard's response was suitably epic.
Hackett was brilliant and it looks like we'll be seeing him again in ME3; Bioware probably had Henriksen recording for ME3 and had him do a few lines for Arrival too. The ending sets the scene nicely for the beginning of ME3, it looks like the theory of Shepard being on trial at the beginning of the game had more substance than I thought.
Graphically, it was bland until the end; the Mass Relay blowing up was humbling. The music was a little dull too, but ME3's should be fantastic. And the length was very short.
All in all, a good DLC. Better than Zaeed and Kasumi, and I loved that it shifted the focus back onto the Reapers. Overlord is technically better, but Arrival's importance to the main plot probably makes it slightly higher up in my eyes.
Still, it should have been as good as Lair of the Shadow Broker.
A seven out of ten, from me. It's made my hype for ME3 significantly increase, so I suppose it's done its job. I'm not disappointed because I was expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised, but I am annoyed that Bioware didn't put more effort into ME2's swan song.

Also, I would have liked to see the final ME2 DLC involving some current or former teammates.
All in all the weakest of all the DLC packs I think - at least of those containing any actual content.

1. Another part of Reaper puzzle.
2. Base was interesting
Disliked:
1. Solo combat. To much of a shooter.
2. Lack of plot development and dialogue. Would like more character inter-action.
3. Lack of choices.
4. Too short.
5. Generic enemies.

I enjoyed the new environment, lots of detail. I was expecting more but I still enjoyed it.

A good romp. Incredible visuals and environments. Loved the asteroid base.
Battle for object Rho was intense. Nice surprise after that fight. Nice to see that Shepard's reconstruction makes her tougher to keep down
Good music. Loved watching the Mass Relay approach. Also loved the reactor cooling sequence. Nice nod to movies like Alien (cylinder). I love those sequences
Final conversation at the end was a nice surprise (especially since I had been watching Sovereign's speech on youtube previously).
All in all, a good DLC. Hearing Lance Henrickson again as Hackett was a delight as always.
Like the general sentiment, LotSB was grander, but this was fun nonetheless.
Going it alone was different. I was lonely at the beginning - felt naked, compromised...but being an infiltrator, the sneaking around was very fitting.

This way, if a player didn't download LotSB or Arrival it would still say the event happened in ME3, since its such a big event- it HAS to happen. Furthermore, what ACTUAL choices could you find appropiate in Arrival anyway? Sip a cold glase of water during the ride to the asteroid?
I actually liked this DLC, not as big as LotSB, but at 560 points and 700mb I expected an extended N7 mission sort-of deal. The only things that bugged me was the same mercenary model that was reskinned for like the 10th to 12th time, and the fact that its completable BEFORE the Suicide Mission (to be honest, it doesn't really fit.)

We would like to hear from you after you have played Mass Effect 2's new DLC Arrival.
What did you like about Arrival? What did you dislike?
Please provide your feedback here. Thanks.
I liked the story and the fights but I somewhat disliked that my Paragon Shepard inevitably became a war criminal. (It took lot less than 300.000 victims to cancel Captain Anderson's Spectre initiating although he wasn't responsible for screwing up that mission). Should have been better if the player had an opportunity to call for reinforcements, secure the base on the asteroid in time, make a decision about destroying the mass relay or not (in this case the Reapers appear, killing everyone in that sector, making that save game unimportable to Mass Effect 3), effectively warn the batarians if the player chooses to do so.

Liked: Hackett, Object Rho design, taking control of the mech, and the upgrades.
Didn't actively dislike the DLC but it will join the ranks of LotSB and Overlord - I've played them once and have no wish to do so again - I don't care about Liara and don't like Overlord enough to repeat the experience.
I figure that not playing Arrival and LotSB won't affect my imports to ME3 too much because they're a 'bridging story', that is, they are a given for ME3. I do however replay the DLC of Zaeed, Kasumi, Normandy crash site and Firewalker because I like the characters, need their upgrades, and want to furnish the Captain's quarters - I just hope that Shepard gets back to her/his cabin and the space hamster - there are no fish!

I didnt like the solo combat so much, i felt the DLC was short, a little too easy. having joker make a cameo but not speaking? no that wasnt cool lol. i didnt like how the project rho leader was telling us her plan and then turns on us, twas like an old bond villain and it felt sort of weak, compared to other villains in the game. i didnt like not having much of a choice through it. and lastly i hated how it was a mission that was set before the endgame. I was hoping for a big cutscene of the reapers beginning their invasion on outer colonies in some star system.
however, I do understand bioware devs are probably working very hard on the third game, therfore understand why this DLC wasnt as amazing as shadow broker.
cant wait for mass effect 3 =)

- sole survivor
Disliked
- no virmire suvivor (just give us a choice to interact with them or not).
- silly plot (whats the point in the citadel being a trap if the reapers can come through another mass relay and cause just as much suprise just as quickly and easily?)
- too short (ok, i wasn't expecting something huge but a few hours gameplay isn't aksing much).
- no character development (which has been lacking in recent bioware releases and is the core of successfull bioware games).
- no choices (other than one renegade option).
bioware, really, if you don't know what makes an engrossing and enjoyable dlc by now, then something is seriously wrong.
judging by other recent bioware releases i am very worried about me3.

solo Shepard
level design (cqb ala dead space, also revistitable areas)
plot importance
Admiral Steven Hackett
music
upgrades
wave battles, stealth, and puzzles
failed sedation and mech control for the lolz
Disliked:
length (too short)
character depth (not enough given backstory before indoctrination)
repetitive enemies
large amount of forced dialogue for Shepard
not enough interrupts or charm/ intimidate
lack of Joker dialogue

- Presentation
- Music (loved it!)
- Story and plot progression
- Cinematics
- Environments
Disliked:
- Too much auto-dialogue on Shepard's part
- Too short
- Shepard doesn't show any emotional signs at certain points where they really should
- Re-used animations: Too many and too obvious
- Lack of much needed dialogue
Overall, I give it a 8/10. I think it's definitely worth $7, but probably not more than that.
