its a good chance that a fresh install would help if that was a store demo that sat on the foolr with people messing with its settings.

but its also a good chance that, since you have a 16:9 monitor/HDTV, that when you use HDMI with a PC on a monitor like this you need to go into your monitors settings (i have a samsung that allows this) and under settings/picture settings, where it shows the different aspect ratios you can choose like 16:9 and 4:3, see if theres one that says "just scan" or "native scan" or something similar.

that might be the only problem with your screen cutting off the edges and what not.

Thats what i was thinking but i never found a way to do that. The monitor came with one sheet with a diagram that showed in picture form step by step set up and in one picture it shows the step connecting to the computer and it has an HDMI,some cable that came with it that looks like the plug in end of a pair of headphones which i assumed had something to do with audio and some other cord,im not familiar with video cords for computers because ive always had a laptop. If i wasnt as computer ignorant as i am im sure i would have already figured it out but i just havent had much experience with this stuff.

The diagram did show all three cables connected at once though so hell maybe i need to get the third cable im missing and hook all three up.

your PC and monitor probably have a cable called a DVI, this might be easier for use if HDMI is giving you problems. the DVI will look MUCH larger than the HDMI and it should have pins and maybe a few flat pins in it as well. it would be rectangular and if you got one with your monitor or PC and used it, and thats all you would need for video, it would auto adjust your picture to fit in the screen.

if you tell me what your monitor and model number is for it, i would look it up for you.

It's probably in basic mode. Just type scaling options in the search bar to get where you need to be.

Also I googled around and found that you can fix your osd locked problem (likely unrelated to black borders) by turning off the monitor and holding the menu button down while turning it on again.

Thanks, what exactly would having the OSD unlocked do?

Grant you access to the monitor's settings? Maybe I misunderstood this.

There are some buttons with an up and down symbol and a square with lines in the inside of the square on the monitor but when i touch any of them a msg onscreen pops sayin "OSD Locked"

No you didnt misunderstand i just didnt phrase what i was saying correctly.I thought maybe you might know what it may be other than monitor settings.I tryied turning it off and then back on holding the square button, when holding the square it turns on to "HDMI" instread of "OSD Locked" but when i hit the up and down keys it goes back to saying "OSD Locked".I havent been able to find any options though.

I guess im gonna take a break now, again your help has been very much appreciated.
