Jen is great as a Renegade altho I'v never gone paragon... I'v tried but I just can't do it... I get annoyed when I'v got to back down. I'd rather shout abuse and threated someone to get what I Want xD

Hmmm But I'm always nice to the illusive man... Maybe Cause I keep hoping he'll crash me a ciggy xD

I usually go Paragade, because some of the stuff just doesn't cut it for me. And renegade options are usually quite funny.  And I'm usually semi-nice to the Illusive Man...I don't trust the guy.

I use females in most games with create-a-guy, unless a female character is inherently weaker, or lesser than males. But in ME I have a male alternative file.

Infact my av is my DA2 fem Hawke.

No big deal really. Most games I'll play as both if the option is there. It's not me in there, it's a fictional character that I get to meddle with. Sometimes the game's different between genders.

Although my FemSheps trend blue. Two romanced Liara, one Garrus, the third was a Black Widow (killed both Kaidan and Jacob post-flirtation/consumation).

I'm male and played through it with a female Shepard and whilst it was interesting to see the different voice actor, I felt the romance options were a bit... well, weird for me and I couldn't get immersed as I do when playing as Sheploo.

Besides, FemShep is overrated. I tried it once, and Jennifer Hale, always seemed so emotionless in all of her lines.

I agree with this to an extent...I personally think everyone here takes Jen a little to high in standard. I dont care for the femsheps which means I dont hate nor love the character I just cant tell when I see double takes of both male and female shep back to back to seen any difference.  Does Jen raise and lower her tone of voice yes but does it make it that much of a difference...nope.

Also I never understood the fascination of playing as femshep since I am a guy. I also dont understand where some of you guys are coming from when you say you are playing as femshep to see a "DIfferent," Side of the story....am I missing something here but the story is the same male or female the only difference is getting a MALE LI which is not my cup of tea.

I have played over 100hrs on ME1 and have never played as femshep and wont till the end of 3 and even then probably wont so to each his own.

Honestly OP based on how you described it and the things you said, I probably would have thought you were gay too.

Maybe he was just calling it like he saw it.  Why so defensive?

To paraphrase a sentiment I've read before, and assuming you don't want to get into a discussion about stereotypes or whatever but want a somewhat humorous response that shuts critics up:

"Choosing a female character means I get to watch that female character throughout the game. Choosing a male character means I have to watch that male character's backside throughout most of the game. Do you prefer playing around with males?"

If you're not a female, then you have no reason to role play as a female.

That's right, remember folks... if you're not /really/ a 22nd century space marine who is hunted by an ancient alien species intent on wiping out life in the galaxy, then you have no reason to role play as a 22nd century space marine who is hunted by an ancient alien species intent on wiping out life in the galaxy!

You obviously have no clue what I'm taling about. >_>

I played male-shep first in me1, and replayed as a guy a few times. Then I tried fem-shep and was floored by the superior voicework. For the rest of my time with me1, played as fem-shep.

That changed with me2'though. I have played as man-shep over ten playthroughs, but I havnt finished a single fem-shep run. I am working on a playthrough with her now, but I just found it wierd that I can't seem to finish a run with her yet.

I think it's because I am attached to my first character so much.

I was in my University Commons (an area where college students can hang out, study, eat food, play games, etc).  I'm about of a anime/gaming club (don't call me a nerd!).  Last night I've decided to bring in my xbox and ME2/Jade Empire to show people how awesome these games are, and well... if you don't think these games are awesome then "SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!"

I was playing my alternative career, a fem. shep.  I was talking to Jacob, which at the moment my character is "courting."

A newbie in the club asks, "what game is this."  I reply, "One of the greatest RPG's in my humble opinion."  Then he responds, "You're playing as a female and it seems like the conversation is getting a little heavy.  Are you gay?"

Why is it, homophobes call you gay for role-playing as a female character?  I've responded "Call me what you want, I just want to experience another side of the story, from a female perspective.  Sorry if my eyes don't always look through the same patriarchal glasses society provides for us males."

Has anyone else experienced this?

you shoulda said you wanna find out after he asked if you were gay. that woulda been hella funny to get a freaked out reaction from him

I sometimes wonder of the significance if someone only ever plays the opposite gender, but otherwise, nah. I mean, I play RPGs so I understand the idea. BUT . . . to people unfamiliar with RPGs the immediate connection often is as above. It's societal; not endorsing it, but there it is. I haven't played a fem Shep through as yet but I will for the same reason someone else stated - I want to experience the variety of story a different play-through offers, just like playing a renegade and a paragon game.

If you do try a female character, you might actually be surprised to see that, while most of the basic story remains the same, some of the interactions you have with characters (outside of just the romance) do change as well!  The female-only renegade interrupt in Garrus' recruitment mission is particularly amusing.

Why not? Girls are pretty great. Guys too, but I already did ManShep runs.

Variety is the spice of life, and sometimes you want to stare at the other gender's ass for a playthrough.

Both of them are pretty swell though. :3

I don't have a question with my sexuality, and seems like the majority who posted in this forum don't either. I just don't see how playing as a female character when male or vice versa makes you gay.

BioWare was smart in allowing a female character for female fans as well as men who want to experience the game from another perspective.

It's like when people make fun of WoW players for playing as a male blood elf, or female toon. I used to play WoW and I can honestly say, the majority of the characters that were female, a lot of them were male, and they prefer how the females look over the males.

i play games with both male characters and female characters

i see nothing wrong with that

i also play as a hardcore **** in these games and an angelic hero... in real life i'm neither, who says you have to have experience to role play? anybody here ever lived in outer space or met an alien? how could anybody have the foreknowledge to role play any Shepard regardless of sex? griping about sex in a fantasy/sci-fi rpg is kind of dumb, no?

besides, who wants to look at some dude's backside for 60 hours?

It's not "gay" if you're not trying to play as yourself. If you're imagining yourself as the fem Shep or other create-a-(girl) THEN you might have things to discuss with someone.

Shepard has a last name, as does Hawke. I can't put "myself" in the role, nor do I really care to make someone similar in that case. I don't immerse myself by feeling like I'm them, I immerse myself in THEIR story. In WWE Smackdown I can create myself perfectly, so I do. In Saints Row 2, I used a female in that; GTA action + plus looking at girl with a hot body in low-rises and a thong(or naked) = double win.

Am I the only one who thinks the OP and the whole thread missed the point. Obviosuly I wasnt there but from the way the OP wrote it I got a different reaction.

He didnt call him gay because he was playing as female shep he called him gay because he was in a conversation mid seducing Jacob...at least thats what I assumed with the line "this conversation is getting heavy."

Think to someone who doesnt know ME2, seducing a character is not in any other game, maybe the ****s in GTA4 but thats it. Odds are you could have been male shep and he would have said "cant get girls in real life" or some variation of that

I always play femshep(have only played male halftrough me1 while played female 3 times in both games) and I'm a straight male. The simple reasons are a better voice acting by Hale and the fact that I like the idea of a strogn and sexy woman saving the galaxy! Why not?

I get the occasional disdainful comment (all jovial of course), but then I just point out the inevitable aesthetic choice:

A) Staring at pixellated male-bum, in 3rd person for hours on end
B) Staring at pixellated female-bum, in 3rd person for hours on end

On a serious note though, i prefer the voice acting of femshep and think the respective LI in ME2 are better characters.

You might have a point there.  When I played a hetero femshep, the whole Jacob thing kinda creeped me out a little.  But, I wanted to see what it was like so I did it and my femshep did him.  I could see how that could prickle a homophobe.
