Anders better be alive - because he needs to watch me catch, skin, and cook Ser Pounce A Lot on a spit.

i refused to help the bastard to sneak in chantry but he managed to kill Grand Cleric anyway. My question is, he was saying this was for him to get seperated from Justice. What is happening if you helped him to sneak in the chantry? what is he doing there?

Anders should be dead, but Justice has a valid copout for returning: he's a spirit that's survived without a body before, after all.

And since Anders and Justice are one now, that's more than enough wiggle room to justify something.

I could see Justice returning in some villainous form.... but Anders? No. They need to leave him dead and unburied. Have Justice possess somebody else if they like the character so much... Anyway, Anders' whole plot was focused around becoming a martyr. It wouldn't make sense for him to still be alive... eh... unless Hawke let him live. I have no idea what that ending is like.

I hope not--that way I get to kill him again. Slowly this time; last time I was in a rush.

He can either live or be killed. Therefore, he will be in the next game, regardless of what you did with him. Just like he was in this game regardless of whether or not he died defending the fort.

I'm sure the writers will do whatever they want. For all we know, Varric could have just made this whole story up. I'm sure they could slip something in there that said 'Oh Hawke didn't kill Anders, he ran away before he/she could.'

That's what kind of annoys me about this way of storytelling. They literally do not have to go by Varric's tale at all because he's not a reliant narrator.

Anders is dead. He died sometime after Awakening. His corpse may walk and talk in DA2, but the man himself passed on long ago.

This is indeed annoying.  I liked the way the game was presented, but Bioware will undoubtedly use this as a way to handwave without fear of repercussions (not that they care about our opinions one way or the other).  At any point, "Varric lied" can be used to alter the story... I think the only choice safe from this is Hawke's final decision, siding with Mages or Templars.

What everyone is saying makes some sense. So Anders/Justice plays the role of catalyst that we will not truly understand until it is too late. Now I wonder did Anders really kill people when he blew up the chantry? Did he really blow it up? Could the explosion have come from the inside. This DA people survive horrible things.

It would be interesting to meet Justice as some sort of corrupted spirit/demon which attempts to lure me into a trap. If you killed Anders, then Vengeance would be after you, if you didn't kill him, then maybe attempt to coax you into letting him possess you instead of Anders. If the story writer has good enough manipulation skills, then such a story would be rather welcome by me.

He looked pretty dead. But now that I think about it, maybe she should have poked him in the eye with a stick to be sure.

This is the best explanation and I support it. That would explain Anders going from saying all he wants is a pretty girl to being the flamingest gay in the game. It's actually Justice who is gay. It would also go for those who played Awakening and Anders didn't survive it as well.

Bioware should hire you as the head writer because you have a better grasp of realism with death than they do.

There is no choice in the Dragon Age world, didn't you know that. You must do quests even if the character you're roll playing wouldn't do it and you can't really kill Anders.

The answer is: It depends if Bioware feels he is needed to continue the story in DA3.
