Have you enjoyed the fight? YES
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Adept
Weapons used: Evis/tempest Different Adept Mattock/locust 3rd adept GPS
Bonus power: None Stasis Stasis
Strategy. 1st wave took out guy on right, took out guys on left. When the 2nd wave came went to the left and got behind a L shaped bench. I almost noticed the pyro to late, but I got him in a singularity and tempested his shields down quickly.(those guys are serious HP sponges over 2 heavy warp bombs of health). From then on it was fairly basic singularity to hold people cover hop to shoot with shotgun, cover hop back when I would spot a pyro and use the temepst which has a bit better range. The Ymir was a hassle since this build was my shockwave test, so I maxed warp, singualrity, shockwave, pull, class passive and put 1 point in throw. But at the L shaped chair/bench thing I would pop up use temepst and a warp, when he got close to the chair I was inside the L, I moved to one side of the L after a missile shot. He repositioned allowing me a few more emty clip bursts at close range, I repositioned back to the center of the L and removed the rest of his armor at which point he is easy. I would shift pause a heck of a lot to make sure I wasn't missing any more pyros throughout the waves.
Stasis /mattock and Stasis/GPS adept was basically the same idea but I stayed in the initial L cover the entire time, and used stasis without the bug to take out the YMIR. In all 3 runs it took me 2 tries, each for the same damn reason, you'd think I'd learn. I would throw a pull on an unprotected guy so I could get back to shooting people staggered in a singularity, but I would stop looking at pull guy who apparently wasn't pulled and just glowing blue while he walked up behind me to unload. One of the days I'll remember to always confirm the pull.

Have you enjoyed the fight? NO
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Adept
Weapons used: Mattock and Locust
Bonus power: Barrier
I held my own right up until the YMIR Mech reared its ugly face. Playing patiently, waiting to launch Singularity, stripping shields when I can and Warp Bombs. Oh and target Pyros with extreme prejudice. I must've panicked when the YMIR showed up because I tried to run for it and I think I waited too long to run. That said, I'm having fun using an Adept.

Have you enjoyed the fight? No
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Soldier
Weapons used: Revenant & Eviscerator
Bonus power: Fortification
What strategy have you used?
Watch on Youtube
I tried going with what worked on Hardcore - camp with the Revenant, spam Adrenaline Rush, then move after the third Pyro to a spot where I can deal with the YMIR.
It worked then... so why not now?
This is why I hate optimism, lol.
The L-shaped place is great for dealing with foot soldiers, but I have no idea how to use that against the YMIR... the opposite side of the room is perfect against the YMIR, but can tempt enemies to flank your exposed side - ultimately that's where I wanted to go.
Unfortunately, some ass had 5HP left when I was trying to stop him flanking me and Shep was taking too many shots... and the second pyro showed up at that very awful moment.
Barely escaped alive. Fortification actually proved hugely useful as an escape, and because it auto-recharged my shields, when they were shot out during my escape, the Redundant Field Generator upgrade caused an instant recharge (but it got interrupted so it barely recharged at all).
I felt awfully limited... very good at dealing with exposed flankers once I'd set up in my anti-YMIR spot because of the Revenant, but other than that I kept wishing I was one of those other cooler classes with powers.
I've beaten this before as a Vanguard and charging all over the place was goddamn awesome... I missed that mobility, and not to mention the biotics.
But after an hour or so, I pulled it off.
Barely.
See the vid.

Have you enjoyed the fight? YES
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Vanguard
Weapons used: Claymore, Tempest, Carnifex, Arc Projector
Bonus power: Energy Drain [Only used vs. Elites, Engineers, YMIR]
After ages I finally got around to running my Vanguard through the Fight for your life area. I was hoping that I could get away with my normal zip-around-the-map approach but I don't quite have the skills for this.
While I was out & about more than any other of my classes I still wasn't as far out there as I would have liked.
I ended up compromising by:
-- Brought Arc Projector for Pyros
-- Only Charged enemies "that were asking for it"
-- Hunkered down between waves so I could see who was coming at me and from where
-- Made sure I had enemies on one side of the Room opposite of where the YMIR mech spawned. This gave me one or two get out of jail for free cards.

I felt like bringing this thread back... the Object Rho battle is a pretty good challenge that I'm sure people may still want to boast about.
P.S. In my post I (somehow) accidentally put my class as 'Shepard'... damn I facepalmed when I saw that. XD

I still haven't beaten the fight on insanity and tried it with engineer and adept, I think I came to the Mech with both after several tries. I might have beaten it with a few more tries but I was so annoyed of the video sequence after my sixth or seventh try that I just gave up.
Giving it another chance with my adept since I'm already doing a run without medigel and hw, but I don't get my hopes up.
I'll look through the vids posted here to get some ideas, I hope nobody posted them with music which isn't available in germany on youtube
great thread and IF i manage this fight or put up an at least watchable show I'll post it.

I plan to try it again another day no cover+no stasis, and I'll just kite the YMIR around the Object, but the hardest part is when it is out and you got like 4 guys left to go, if you get a poor angle on the YMIR it lights you up, since it is so liberal with it's machine gun lol.

Have you enjoyed the fight? YES (oddly enough)
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Adept
Weapons used: Locust & Collector Beam Oo
Bonus power: Area Shield Drain
What strategy have you used?
www.youtube.com/watch
I instantly ran to the left side to get to the L-shaped cover, from there I stripped defenses with Locust/ Area Shield Drain and warpbombed the wimps away. I turned the pyros into bombs and tried to throw them on enemies (which worked kind of one time) and for the YMIR I actually used my Collector Beam while refreshing my Barrier with Shield Drain. As soon as his Shield was drained I used Warp till the armor was stripped, tried to warpbomb him afterwards which just made him angry and gave him a better position, so I just took him out of the fight with pull and fried him with the beam.
I tried to beat this fight at least 20 times without HW but I just couldn't strip the mech fast enough so he always closed in and actually circled my L-shaped cover so I had to leave it and since there were always alot of the wimps still living I had to leave the cover and got killed. Out of the 20 tries I made it at least 15 times to the mech but always died shortly after that.
I'm really not happy with this try because of two reasons:
first: I used HW so my whole run is ruined
second: the Mech actually didn't circle around the L-shaped cover in this try so I feel like a bug user.
It's the first time I actually have beaten this fight on insanity so that's at least something, but I'm just not satisfied.
I reskilled Shep just for this mission but I basically just used throw to torture already finished pyros, and my heavy singularity just was used once (after those fabulous 3 pulls in the end), while I constantly used lift which I just reskilled to lvl 1 Oo.
Another thing is that I never used HW before so I never changed my output and actually started this mission with the crappy Collector Beam, so that's why I used that thing at all. Would have been much easier with the Caine and I bet the Mech wouldn't even make it to my cover after a Caine hit.
Since all the linked Adept runs in the first post were made either with Stasis or Dominate, I decided to try something else so I tried Shield Drain. That's that

Have you enjoyed the fight? YES (felt a little more relaxed this time)
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Infiltrator
Weapons used: Locust SMG, Viper Sniper Rifle, Geth Plasma Shotgun
Bonus power: Area Drain
With Cryo Ammo, I felt as though once I froze a few enemies, I could take my time selecting my targets. And if I got in trouble, to use Area Drain to boost my shields. Enhanced Cloak helped me take down harder enemies as well as get the YMIR mech off my tail for a few seconds as I moved around the room.
That said, target the Pyros with extreme prejudice. If they get too close, they will ruin everything.
On a side note, since I am getting better at this, I want to revisit this with some of my older playthroughs.
I do think the YMIR mech can throw you off your groove. Since it forces you out of your hiding spot with its neverending advance, people tend to panic as they try to find somewhere else to go.

Have you enjoyed the fight? YES (felt a little more relaxed this time)
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Soldier
Weapons used: Phlanx Heavy Pistol, Geth Plasma Shotgun, Mantis Sniper Rifle, Revenant Light Machine Gun
Bonus power: Squad Warp Ammo (Did not use)
For me, preserving my ammunition was the key since I do not really like doing a lot of moving around. And since all my Ammo Powers are Squad based since this Soldier was meant to fight with teammates, I was at a disadvantage (it was also the first character I ever made, and hence my second attempt at clearing this fight with him). So I expended my pistol first with Disruptor Ammo. Using Hardened Adrenaline Rush saved my life when my shields broke and I was still shooting. The Geth Shotgun came in handy for the Engineers and Elites as it smashed through their shields. The Revenant did everything else like rip through hapless soldiers and those pyros. Armed with Incendiary Ammo, they burned to a crisp. Played Ring-Around-The-Rosie with the YMIR mech before finishing it off.

Geth Plasma Shotgun makes it much easier, if you have the DLC. What I did on mine was, Deep Stasis the YMIR over and over, and before it became immune it was just it and me left. I use the Object as line of sight, while I repositioned/collected ammo. Shoot-Warp-etc, until dead.

do you plan to give your Adept another Chance JG? And any possibility you'll record it? I like vids of this fight for new ideas and to see what I can do better since there's a lot ; )
I play on XBox and don't actually have any recording equipment. I may revisit my Adept though.

Bonus power: Area Drain
This is another revisit I did. Since I'm relying on the Widow, I opted to play carefully and conserve my ammo. I put Cryo on my Heavy Pistol which was very effective when combined with Area Drain. I used the Locust on Elites, Engineers and Pyros since I couldn't OSOK them with the Widow. That beauty of a sniper rifle was reserved for the hapless flunkies. My assassin isn't meant to really fight by herself, but she can hold her own when her hand is forced. More Ring-Around-The-Rosie with the YMIR finished it off.

Like in the Adept vid I use the L-shaped cover and use shield drain on groups as well as to boost my shield.
Cryo ammo takes away a lot of heat (pun tolerated) and I take advantage of cloak a lot to make heavy damage or finish off wounded enemies in peace. For the YMIR I changed the ammo type on my smg to drain his shield faster and finish him of with cloak & widow, as soon as his shield is down. His explosion even took care of 2 mercs.
This time I made it with my third try after doing some stupid mistakes in the tries before that.
It was an easy fight all in all and I even have my problems with my aim as you can see if you watch it and not get really punished for that.

Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class:Vanguard
Weapons used:Claymore (and a small useage of my trusty Predator
Bonus power: Stasis
Yes I copies most of te guys here. I only use Stasis as to me I love the idea of taking an enemy out of the fight for a few seconds and take full advantage of it.
Oddly enough I only killed a single Pyro through the entire thing. If I remember others have killed at least 2...so i was kinda happy about that.
And then the Heavy Mech came and I used Stasis on it. Seconds later it had actually dissapeared from view...like entirelly.
Alas I was killed then, so I started again.
Watied to avoid the fall of death bug...a single shot and it blew up...
Kinda happy I did it though. Vanguards are quickly becoming my new favourite class and for all the right reasons

It's nice to have summer break at the university. This time as soldier on lvl 14, as soon as the mission is available, because.... why not? Before this mission I just bought upgrades on Illium, you can see which weapon upgrades I have in the end of the vid but not the upgrades for the shotgun (I don't know if they even count for gps, it's lvl 2 + shield penetration).
Have you survived all enemy waves? YES
Have you enjoyed the fight? YES (I also like to spray lemon juice into my eyes I guess
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Soldier Lvl 14
Weapons used: GPS, Mantis and Mattock
Bonus power: Slam (not used)
What strategy have you used?
www.youtube.com/watch
I used incendiary ammo lvl 2 on all my weapons, fought with GPS and Mattock and used the Mantis to strip
the mech's armor and finish him off (nuke power). I relied heavily on cover (again no medkits and hw) and just can't aim, especially with the gps
I killed the first guard left, got into cover on the left platform and switched between gps and mattock to finish off the waves and even changed my position (for me) a lot to get ammo and finish off enemies in cqc. For the mech I got into on of the safe zones on the left side.
There are a lot of people out there much better than me who could do it with less cover and more accuracy, but man I missed the accuracy upgrade for ar and I tried it several times over the right side, but I'm just not good enough for that path, at least at this lvl as soldier

Have you enjoyed the fight? It was exhilarating... enjoyment or lacktherof didn't come in to it
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Engineer
Weapons used: Vindicator almost all the way
Bonus power: Neural Shock
What strategy have you used?
www.youtube.com/watch
First focus on the guy on the right... zap his shields down, then...
...if he stays put, set him on fire and finish him with 2-3 Vindicator bursts.
...if he flanks, neural shock him, then while the left guy stops shooting, drill his helpless body as it lays on the ground
...but he went left behind the object this time? Wat? Well I managed to get him.
DO NOT USE THE DRONE and focus everything on the left side. Everyone funnels on the left... if I pop a drone it usually triggers flankers on my right side.
Overload everyone's shields first, then focus on incinerating the bastards. If someone tries to flank left without going upstairs, use neural shock as they vault, and they'll instantly ragdoll... otherwise, set them on fire and shoot them.
Overload pyros the moment they appear, but only if shields are up. Otherwise pop medigel and wait until their first flame stream is done. 'splode the bastards between flame streams.
Focus on Elites and Engineers above regular mooks. Engineer's will stagger you from cover and Elite's do extremely high damage and can sometimes interrupt regen with extreme precision over your cover.
At one point a shielded Engineer tried to flank me, so I had to pop a drone on her, which seemed to make her go back to a more favorable position out in the open.
I took her shields down then gave her a seizure, and burned the body.
Once YMIR enters the scene, RUN for the right, and set up there.
A mook usually attempts to flank left. Neural shock if unshielded... drone if shielded, shoot down shields then neural shock and wait for collapse before shooting further (hit animations, when they happen, interrupt the seizure and prevent collapse).
I went down to 1HP (or 0HP if you have to be 'HP < 0' to go down, because the bar looked empty to me) just after I managed to seizure him. o.o
Shift left and right to keep the YMIR confused while carefully picking off the remaining foot-soldiers.
Then go for the YMIR nice and easy.

the Guard at the end with 10 hp trying to escape his fate was funny and kind of annoying I bet.
And did the Drone even hit the engineer while he was lying on the ground after he tried to flank you?

Have you enjoyed the fight? YES i guess so.
Difficulty level: Insanity
Shepard's class: Vanguard
Weapons used: First time: Claymore, Locust, Predator
Second time: Indicator ( is that the 3 burst sniper? ) Locust and Scimitar.
Focus on Engineers and when a pyro hits the seen instantly used stasis and set up to take him out. Once it is generally just troopers, take them out -- the vanguard way.
Once YMIR mech hits the scene, use the extremely overpowered stasis. Then charge and shotgun him to death.
