I personally gave up on plated tin and ribbons over forty years ago when i burned my uniforms and duffle bag in the company parking lot, climbed on my little honda and kissed the whole damned army good bye.. so i dont go for the medals/trophies here either. But, maybe i'll play it through to see that alternate ending anyway.. The thing that gives me a knot in my gut is that your given a very simple choice and there are no alternatives.. Your either a damned coward and get the entire human race exterminated in me3 or you got a backbone and kill 320000 beings in thr dlc. in other words your either a facist on the side of the humans or your an equalist committing what could become the greatest war crime of all... I find it less than amusing that the number of people you kill in this dlc is very close to the population of Hiroshima at the end of world war two, and i cant help to wonder if theres a tie in there.. OK, time out folks. This DLC sets nothing important in stone. It does not (and cannot) doom the human race or save it, etc. It is a DLC that not everyone will actually buy and play. No DLC can change the core game which MUST assume no DLCs at all as far as core plot points. DLCs only ever change fairly modest or unimportant aspects of the game (what character is around, what character can be referenced in the future, etc.) If you never download and play the Arrival DLC, the ME3 game will play out, major plot point for major plot point, the same way regardless. Certain things will be assumed regardless of whether you actually play any DLC. One assumption you can almost certainly count upon (though it can easily be ignored entirely) in ME3 is the assumption that the Mass Relay in this Arrival DLC was destroyed. Maybe the game will assume Shepard did it or maybe it will retcon it so that the original team did it. On the other hand, if you never play this DLC, perhaps ME3 will start with a backstory of Shepard blowing up the relay, etc. In any case, this is easily handled for the story which is set in stone and doesn't even need a DLC to make it flow. Don't get too wound up on the meaning of this DLC. There isn't one. It is just a fun interlude while everyone waits for ME3.
Hell, the Lair of the Shadowbroker outcome will likely not do much for ME3. Either Liara will be on your squad again or not whether you played that DLC or not. If you didn't play LotSB then Liara will still be the Shadowbroker, placed there by backstory. Playing the actual DLC is irrelevant to this. The Lair itself will otherwise likely play the role it plays in game after you complete the mission: you go there now and then to see new videos, collect goodies (like increased shotgun damage), or get "investment opportunities".
Not everyone can be counted upon to play the DLCs. Certainly they cannot be counted upon to play ALL of them. They CANNOT play a major role in the core game. Remember, you can win ME2 without picking up Zaeed, Kasumi, etc. DLCs are not core to the game plot and playthrough. They are nice to have along and fun to play through but they do nothing of real note to the core plot of the game. NOTHING you do can alter the fundamentals of the story. You cannot end ME2 with a dead Shepard and import that game into ME3 (official - a dead shepard game cannot be imported into ME3 - you MUST successfully complete ME2 to import). ME3 will start with an ALIVE Shepard with the Collector base handed over to Cerberus or not (this cannot be important on any core level or you would not be allowed to make the decision - it may lead to some fancy weapon or armor for you in ME3 but that's it...or setup a nice DLC for ME3).
Your actions through the entire game alter nothing core. They merely alter how people react to your character or who your LI is. They alter side stories at best but affect nothing at all that is core. The end result is identical with just the flavoring/seasoning you put on it (your choices) being different.
