So, is there a point to drinking at the Hanged Man, or is it one of those atmospheric things you can do?

It gives you another way to spend a few coppers. That's about it, as far as I can tell. It would have been awesome if something actually happened when you did this. Maybe your companions could remark on it, or strike up a banter among themselves, something, anything. I had my guy stand there and down about 30 in a row and he didn't even get a combat penalty. You'd think the bartender would cut you off after a while.

Not that I know of. It's just atmosphere thing. Like in Mass Effect 2. I like the fact that you can drink.

Three bits for a pint, sixpence for an albatross.

You do the math.

It would have been nice to be able to get drunk with your party with this activity. Maybe challenge various party members to a drinking contest. That would be priceless!

It should help your friendship with Isabella and Varric- or something like that. I have seen it do absolutely nothing! :)

Okay Bioware, this would be a nice, inexpensive DLC or add on.  Please consider letting us "par-tay" with our companions.:D

Edit:  I so want to see a drunk Justice!

Anders has already stated that Justice doesn't allow him to drink and he misses it.  :(

Yeah, but I'll just put a little gin in his apple juice, or maybe a little apple juice in his gin. Besides, in Act 3, Varric lets Anders run a tab. So, maybe Justice is allowing some additional "spirits" to inhabit Anders body by then.

We need mr. "Schnapps". If taken in sufficient quantities, Schnapps can exorcise anything. It can also double as lamp fuel.

I could really picture Isabella and Varric tattooing a penis on your face while you were passed out drunk.

Step 1: Boozed up Merrill cannot pay gambling debt to Boozed up Isabela.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Awkward party interactions for the rest of the game.

I agree, would loved to have seen this.  Another missed opportunity for character develop and a few good laughs.

But in Mass Effect 2 at least you get a blurry screen in DA2 nothing happens!

You ever notice that the drinking animation is exactly the same one from Mass Effect 2? It's the exact same one, I swear.

The same step up, the same way of grabbing it and forcing the booze down, and then the exact same step back and head move. It's jarring seeing it done without an N7 armor on. :P

If you drink 100 of them the screen fades, and you come back armorless in the middle of a field.
Your stuff is in one of the private rooms in the back of the hanged man.

There's actually a bit more of a difference. There are three bars in Mass Effect 2. Drinking at the Omega one gets Shepard poisoned and references Jacob's storyline in the iPhone game Mass Effect Galaxy. Drinking to excess at the Citadel and Hawke ends up in the restroom puking, which is amusing. And the best one is the one on Illum where the kinda meh looking Asari gets much better looking the more you drink.

So two amusing and different experiences and one story/reputaion gaining encounter vs just slapping down coppers for as long as you want without any change.
