Not that I know of. It's just atmosphere thing. Like in Mass Effect 2. I like the fact that you can drink.

But in Mass Effect 2 at least you get a blurry screen in DA2 nothing happens!

There's actually a bit more of a difference. There are three bars in Mass Effect 2. Drinking at the Omega one gets Shepard poisoned and references Jacob's storyline in the iPhone game Mass Effect Galaxy. Drinking to excess at the Citadel and Hawke ends up in the restroom puking, which is amusing. And the best one is the one on Illum where the kinda meh looking Asari gets much better looking the more you drink.

So two amusing and different experiences and one story/reputaion gaining encounter vs just slapping down coppers for as long as you want without any change.

I noticed all except the Illium one!

It's hilarious. Drink the most expensive drink and then talk to bartender.

You ever notice that the drinking animation is exactly the same one from Mass Effect 2? It's the exact same one, I swear.

The same step up, the same way of grabbing it and forcing the booze down, and then the exact same step back and head move. It's jarring seeing it done without an N7 armor on. :P

Yeah, it is. I was wearing the Blood Dragon armor the first time Hawke got a drink from the Hanged Man, so that made it even more obvious.

They even give Hawke the same animation as Shepard when drinking at the bar.

The engines are not remotely the same from DA2 to ME2. ME2 uses Unreal3, DA2 uses DA:O's engine. [you can see some NPCs in the game using the old melee attack animations in DA2]

So that means only one thing - the fact they used the exact same animation was an homage. Nothing more.

That said, ME2 made it funny and DA2 it was just pointless and had no effect.

In Mass Effect 2 if you have too many drinks in the bar on the Normandy the room starts to sway and EDI says "Shepard the Mens rest room is on the Starboard side" if I remember correctly. I also think Kasumi says something to you.

If you drink 100 of them the screen fades, and you come back armorless in the middle of a field.

I would've loved to drink with party-members. Just for the hilarious banter and situations that could come of it.

Yeah, agreed.
Please take note Bioware - getting drunk with companions & drunken party banter would be an awesome addition for DA3!

Step 1: Boozed up Merrill cannot pay gambling debt to Boozed up Isabela.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Awkward party interactions for the rest of the game.
