I don't know why I liked Maeko Matsuo so much. I found myself keeping going to see what she would say about whatever I had just done.
As for main characters, I'd say Wrex and Anderson.

Wrex was so awesome that even though in my main playthrough I killed him for RP reasons, he's still my favorite character in ME1.

Heck, there were only 3 good characters in ME1 (Saren, Garrus, Anderson). All the rest were boring and bland.

Garrus is probably my favorite. His VO's are spot on. Ashley is well written and I actually like that she's xenophobic. Makes her an uneasy friend of sorts. Saren is brilliant. Wrex is pretty funny. Tali and Kaiden are bland, and Liara is basically fan service. Never thought I'd say that but I'm playing again and she's too..neat. Too perfect. Samara is the more interesting of the two.

Shepard is a great main character... both Paragon and Renegade... though mShep has terrible voice acting compared to fShep.
Of the supporting cast, it's hard to choose favorites. They're all good characters. Liara's boring, but gets better in ME2.
Garrus and Joker are probably my faves.

Prolly my favorite would be Garrus... I feel like he is such a good friend and in ME2, I was so glad that he can be recruited as I have grown very fond of him. Likewise, Tali is like the female version of Garrus to me. And I cant forgot about Wrex, badass Krogan.
