(Sorry if this has been asked, didn't see it on the first 5-10 pages and can't find search anymore)

Is anyone able to make a DA2 version of the no auto-spend / no companion auto-level mods?

Basically remove the automatic point in flask for rogues, and let me allocate all points for party members when recruited.

Thanks in advance!Posted Image

I would also like this.

Although for about a gold and a half, you can respec anyone as many times as you like in the Black Emporium (Potion called "Maker's Sigh"). So it's not exactly top priority.

Does that work for all companions and for ALL automatically assigned points? If so that's great, but would be nice to have it from the start rather than waiting to access the Emporium.

I have never understood the wanting to totally redo a companion's skills and talents; I didn't understand it in Neverwinter Nights 2, I didn't understand it in DAO and I still don't understand it.

Yes, it does. Resets them to level one with no points spent on ANY attributes, talents, and whatnot. You get a clean slate. And it's only like, an hour into the game. Not too problematic, really. I'd still rather just be able to choose right out of the gate, too, but it's better than what we had in Origins (which was nothing). Same goes for character appearance.

Agree.. they start points where the characters class determins best use. I don;t understand why anyone would want to not use points where they work the best for that class... /shrug

It's a lot less relevant in DA2 than it was in Origins. For example, in Origins, I want Sten or Oghren to tank. But by the time I get them, they are several levels into the 2H-weapon tree, and I want them to use Sword and Shield. So, I respec.

But in DA2, they can only use certain weapons anyway, so it's largely irrelevant. Still, options are always good.

Re-allocating points allows you to convert Merrill from a decent-but-unexciting damage-supporter into an unstoppable death machine, at least.

I do enjoy unstoppable death machines.

Ah, yes. I can see that for Origins, completely not useful for DA2 since Companions are locked into certain class roles.

That argument doesn't quite fly in the modding forum :P

I think it does, actually. Additionally, if someone is going to go to all the trouble to re-class the NPC companions, they can certainly not be so lazy that the can't just use a makers sigh or even edit those in the save..

My point is that if you're in a position to ask for a "no auto points" mod, then companions are almost certainly not locked into any particular style

There are min-maxers out there (myself included) who know exactly how they want their characters built, which often times may not include whatever preallocated points a NPC comes with. Or, it may, just not at the time or level the character joins. Miasmic Flask is a pretty good example: I do a lot of AOE-heavy tanking, and handle any other CC with Glyph of Paralysis and Mind Blast using Anders, who's my dedicated healer/buffer/cc'er. Having Varric start out with a point in Miasmic Flask is a waste for me; by respeccing him, I'm getting the abilities I need/want for him one level sooner.

Whether you never want an ability, or just don't want it right now, some players see preallocated points as just wasted resources that could be better spent elsewhere. In boils down to personal preference and playstyle, but that's what Maker's Breath potions are for.

Ideally, new NPCs would come with just a bank of unspent spec and attribute points right off the bat. Auto-Level exists to cover people who don't want to manually spec as it is.

Actually Sunnie I'm more referring to the skill points than stats points. As I said in my OP I don't want to be forced to have that point spent in flasks as I don't intend to use that tree at all. As has been pointed out I can use the item from the Emporium, but it would be nice to have the choice from the start.

Also, I'd rather not have to always carry some respec potions or go back to the Emporium every time I get a new companion.

There's a mod that allows the companions to access all the standard trees for their class. Example, Merrill gets access to the Creation tree. The console can also be used to add trees.

That's not what their asking about; what they want is to be able to select every companions ability when they recruit them, instead of the companions already having certain abilties.

Yes.  I was pointing out that sometimes, what they automatically have isn't what's best for what you're going to assign them, if you're using a mod like the one I mentioned.

Personally, I'd love it if, for example, Varric didn't come with the sustain I don't care for automatically purchased.
