I guess I’ll be needing some specific help here. Because of my love of the Locust, I quite often find my infiltrator doing Kasumi’s LM as the second mission after Freedom’s Progress, which means I’m fairly low-level with very few upgrades. (OTOH, this means that the enemies should theoretically be easier to deal with as well, and honestly, the only enemies that give me any real trouble are LOKI mechs and engineers.) Now I’m doing it on Insanity…again. (I flicked it over to Hardcore to check how much medi-gel I’d get per pickup, but unless the Insanity achievement lets me start from a save that’s on Insanity before I switched over, I think I’m going to have to do this twice.)
Now, I tend not to have too many problems before the final fight because it’s a fairly straightforward affair (press forward, hold the line, take what flanking you can, and make every YMIR mech a walking nuke), but I’m having issues with the Donovan fights: somehow, I won by the skin of my teeth, but I really want to sharpen things up, make the fight easier on myself the next time around.
The first thing I found is that aggressively advancing…doesn’t work. While there’s a lot of ground to play with, not only does Donovan complicate things a bit, but enemies appear from three different points, including LOKI mechs, which have now become the most annoying enemies in the game for me. From my vantage point, huddling at the start point seems like the safest best, but this also robs you of medkit and ammo opportunities.
Flanking seems to be a risky affair because there’s only two of us. I left Kasmui fairly close to me so I could cover her, but it tended to leave me open at times. I sought a compromise by constantly revolving my cover depending on where enemies where popping up, then trying to limit their mobility. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.
What I’d like are some tips to approach this fight with absolute efficiency as an infiltrator. IMO, the class is strong at any range, but it seems that the Donovan fight really does force the infiltrator to fight well at middle and close-ranges.
While we’re at it, any tips for Horizon? Thisisme8's Infiltrator video on Horizon has become a textbook example on how to handle the first half (and I find myself adding my own notes here and there), but part two is another “by the skin of my teeth” victory for me. (Incidentally, this is where I switched from Insanity to Hardcore to check on medi-gel. I still have the Insanity save, but then the game made an auto-save for Thane’s recruitment.) The Collectors themselves weren’t too bad, the Scions were handled somewhat by moving myself to higher ground while my squaddies bunkered down out of the line of fire, the Praetorian was a simple lesson in watching patterns, but oh man, have I learned to hate husks with a passion.
It could be that I'm not finding prime cover positions, or maybe I just don't know the fight as well as I thought, but I found my squad members dying way too much on Horizon, and for a relatively early mission, this had to be one of the toughest series of fights I've had yet.

I'm the same way: I always crash Mister Hock's shindig right away in every new game.
Now, I've yet to play an Infiltrator in ME2 ( taking one through ME1 right now, actually) but the "safest" way to do that mission in my experience to to bunker down in that "U" shaped section just to the right of where you enter after the cinema ends. I've tried shifting positions, but that spot has always made for the easiest runs, for me at least.
Make sure to spec Kasumi into Rapid Shadow Strike. I've heard some saying on these forums that her passive is broken, and doesn't decrease her cooldowns. I can't claim to have done any rigorous testing, but I haven't gotten a noticeable effect from it, so I always leave it empty. Earlier Improved Flashbangs! Always, always give her the Shuriken: with the Locust she spends too much time out of cover, and it makes her a bit squishier.
My basic strategy is to use a heavy weapon to work on Hocks shields, then swap out after a shot or two to deal with the baddies. Concentrate on dropping their shields, and then have kasumi Shadow Strike them. She'll almost always kill them, and while she's doing her thing she's drawing fire away from you safely. If you've evolved it to Rapid Shadow Strike, you can do this frighteningly quickly. Just make sure that as soon as she Shadow Strikes, you manually put her back into cover! She gets a bit stupid about that.
If you have your own Flashbangs, it really helps make the fight easier, because the mercs tend to pop up from the elevators in nice, tight clumps.
Anyways, hope that helps. Good luck.

I haven't done Kasumi's loyalty mission on my infiltrator yet.
My plan however is to use dominate/AI hack on one of the mooks popping up from the elevators. This usually keeps them busy long enough to wear them down and/or hit Donovan. Perhaps juggling cloaks between katsumi and Shepard (confusing the enemy to death ) would also be an option.

Oh, how I remember doing Kasumi's LM early on Insanity. As stated earlier, it helps to get Hock's shields down fast. The sooner you can get Kasumi to say she can get to that gunship, the better. The first wave can be taken out behind where you started and with that LOKI mech hacked. After that, take the high ground onto that landing pad. For some odd reason, Hock cannot hit you even there with cover placed conveniently so. Defense will be much easier until Kasumi takes Hock's shields out.
Horizon, you've already got a similar strategy. Good thing husks can be sidestepped

I think I've realized a mistake right off the bat: one of the things I tend to do is max out the cloak right after my passive because I'm used to allowing the mobs to target my squadmates while I'm cloaking and moving into position, but for a two-man mission, I can't afford to lose Kasumi, so I'm going to give it another go using cryo ammo to get additional CC options, as well as a shorter duration cloak to minimize any danger to Kasumi.
