So, throw out some ideas on this fight.  My party got our clock cleaned last night.

Worst part is we had just come from Durlag's Tower and had pummeled the Demon Knight on the first pop.

I've got:
                  Fgtr LG/Lvl 8: +1 Morn Star/+1 Bast Swd/+1 Flail
                  Minsc Lvl 8 w/Spidersbane (or +2/+1 Maces)
                  Khalid Lvl 8 w/2 +1 Bstd Swds;
                 Jaheira Lvl 8/Lvl 7 w/+3 Sling/+2 bullets and spells;
                  Imoen Lvl 10 Thf w/+2 Sh Bow and various arrows;
                  Dynahier Lvl 9: +1 Sling/+2 Bullets or +3 Staff & spells (also wand on Moster Summoning
                                    +100 & Wand of FireBalls + 50 (both just recharged)

I killed him once but didn't kill his guards and ended up fighting about six Aec'Letecs.  The times I did best I used the wand of Moster Summoning and kept Aec'Letec busy while taking out his guards & Tracea.

Any ideas are appreciated.

There's a thread just a little bit down the page on the subject that might have some tips for you while you wait for info specific to this post.

One way is to sneak down, past Tracea and kill the cultists one by one. Or replace your wands of fireball with wands of cloudkill, much more deadly to Aec. If your three fighters are proficient with bows add arrows of detonation, biting, piercing or acid for the cultists - more attacks/damage than melee.

Thanks Kevin, Gate70. Still got wiped out another ten times or so but finally I took the cloudkill route (although I've yet to see a Cloudkkill Wand in BGI). I tried sneaking into the corners and popping the guards w/arrows but as soon as I did any of that stuff the Demon attacked. Finally I had drawn him upstairs and managed to keep him busy until Dynahier threw a Cloudkill spell and he was "insta-dead" (unlike Firkraag in BGII who died an ugly Cloudkill death). Problem was the guards in the basement were not so when I went down there there was about six of him. I tried again in the basement and managed to get the spell off and he was instantly dead again and I wracked up 16k experience. Even so I had three NPCs that turned into ghasts and had to be resurrected after the party left the scene.

Thanks again for the help.

I just killed him too.
I had yeslick attacking him closer and minsc with 2h at range - and a few magic projectiles - tho his AC is crazy.
I had to use summoned monsters to mob him preventing him from killing my fighter.
Yeslick's high con gave him a good save against the death gaze, so i never got affected.

Magic spells work here - as well as wands... lots of wands of freezing death are cool here.
Tho his magic resistance can be a pain - plus his healing with vampiric touch.

I had:
Main (rogue)
Yeslick (Fighter/Cleric)
Minsc (ranger)
Viconia (cleric)
Dynaheir (Invoker)
Quayle (cleric/Illusionist)

edit:
Cloudkill insta death???
does this work on the cambion in durlag's tower by chance?

If u get death gazed use dispel magic - and make sure the party member with the best save vs. death is closer to him.

Cloudkill should do the trick.

I always kill the cultists first, hide in shadows, potions of invisibility helped me out here. Imoen backstabbing cultists also helped.For the death gaze, I use either dispel magic or mirror eyes potion or the similar spell. Sometimes, I have success with Dynaheir throwing a globe of invulnarability on the Ac two or three times as I'm (or rather my party) is killing the cultists.

Losin' 15 or so (who's counting) battles to Aec'Letec and having to reload really made a poop sandwich between my shellacking the Demon Knight in Durlag's Tower AND whoopin' my "brother-in-deity" Sarevok like he was a wet rag.

Next time I stroll through with a party I'll be packin' Cloudkill.

You just need lot of wands of summoning and wands of frost, aec gets affected by them lol.
At least if you are not a 9th level mage.

Wands of summoning did the trick for me. And by that I mean hundreds, literally HUNDREDS of tiny meat shields around Aec'Letec. So cheesy and felt a bit easy. But the proudest moment of my life when a little wolf nabbed at the demon's ankle and the demon was felled. Bless the doggy.
