Op stated their OPINION, now I'll state mine; Jennifer hale is worse than jrpg dubbing, she sounds awful and has no emotion. When manshep is angry, he sounds angry as well as during other emotions. Femshep speaks in a robotic monotone.

*prepares for typical femshep fan retribution, won't care though*

If Meer was a tad more wooden in his voice acting you could use him as a picket fence. Hale blows Meer out of the water.

Hahahaha, funny joke lol. I have one too, when I first heard the femshep voice, i thought it was one of the automated electronic voices like prof hawking, lol.

Meer's voice is to monotone, and he just seems angry all the time. Someone mentioned the LOTSB chase, so i played that part over to see what they were talking about.

Hale sounded like she was having fun.
Meer sounded like he was there against his will.

Hale sounds like she has anger issues and needs to chill out.

Meer sounds like a constipated robot.

A bit biased to be speaking in favor of Manshep. Look at your avatar. Can you say man crush?

^ biased, what? That makes no sense, I stated my opinion and justified it.

@missfish, I went four hours into a femshep playthrough and gave up, the pain! Almost ruined the franchise for me LOL.

Do you have the names reversed in your head. Jennifer Hale is so bland. She has a nice voice, but she doesn't use it. She speaks with very little variation in pitch or inflection. Her lines seem flat to me.

Mark Meer can ham it up sometimes, but I generally prefer him simply because there IS emotion in his voice. Even if it's a little over the top now and then.

Wow, this is actually funny and nice to see an almost 50-50 between liking and disliking two things about a game. (and still being civil on top of it LOL)
I like Meer mostly because I use Mshep and have no problems with him, though I have used Fshep some and had no problems but the time into Mshep is WAY more than I've played Fshep so....

It makes sense if you actually read my post. I was trying to find a kind way of saying that you're a Manshep fanboy which your dramatic avatar suggests.

As for the actors, I like both of them. But that's not very popular is it. You have to hate something! and the internet is the place to do it! $1000 dollars says half the people being rude about a voice actor have a lisp and talk like Urkle. Not directed at anyone in particular, just saying. It's easy to be a critic. But so much less meaningful.

I like how both sides hear wooden monotones in the side they don't like as much. Meer is wooden, Hale is wooden.

Personally I prefer Meer, but I think both do a good job. Gross generalizations incoming. Meer seems to pull off I guess I'd call it contained emotions under pressure in a way that screams Marine to me. It is like two sides of the same coin. Meer sounds like someone who is calm and somewhat flat, but with emotions tinging his speaking. Hale came across as someone who spoke with heavy emotions but they were a front covering an absolute calm interior. I prefer the Meer approach, but I think they are both valid for the super solider space marine character.

I disagree heartily.

I think the preference boils down to whether you play FemShep or MaleShep more.  You get used to one or the other. The first time I played FemShep I found the voice acting to be emotionally stilted and monotone.  Meer has more dynamic range in volume and tone, whereas Hale's delivery is done in a deeper-than-natural voice, and so she doesn't get as much range out of it.  I eventually got used to FemShep and I do like her more understated delivery, but IMO saying that one is leagues better than the other is ridiculous.  I like them both, for completely different reasons.

I prefer Meer. Hale often sounds like she's trying way too hard to be a big tough space marine. Meer can be blunt or threatening without sounding like the antichrist, and he also does humor better. Jennifer Hale sounds terrible during the car chase in Illium, where as Meer just sounds like he's having a great time.

Jebus, why this thread again? I would think that by now everyone has come to the conclusion that some people will never agree on who is the better voice actor for Shepard (it's Hale though...and the show goes on).

I like both of them, really, and both have their different strengths. Maybe Hale does get a lot of the subtleties more concretely, but I'll never forget just how intimidating, the "You will not get in my way" line was in the Tali and Legion fight.

Mark Meer is a very good voice actor, but for some reason doesn't really give his all with Shepard. I don't know whether that's Bioware telling him to do so or him just getting tired after so many lines, but hopefully in ME3 he'll step it up and hopefully have voice acting of Hawke quality.

Probably because he is use to low tier characters to play....when you watch an old interview he says that he was doing alien voices before doing Sheppard. Then he thought he was going to do sound effects.

Personally I just never got use to Hale's portrayal of Sheppard....she and I agree talks a little to slow for an action/drama. I also find it funny how shes suppose to be mad points her finger and talks slow again hahaha.

TO each his own though.

I, for one, think both of them are absolutely awesome. No, neither of them are perfect; find someone who is. They're both some of the best VAs in the gaming industry.

In my opinion, since this is a thread about opinions...

Hale emotes her lines more - I find that she sounds great if you mostly stick to either Paragon or Renegade responses, but if you switch between the two, the difference in tone is jarring.

Meanwhile, Meer doesn't deviate very far from "calm and neutral", so if you do switch up Paragon and Renegade responses, he at least still sounds like the same man.

With that said, both voices have their strengths and weaknesses, but I prefer Hale's.
