I realize this is probably a lost cause but I'm posting anyway.

When I start Leliana's Song she has no hair, is invisible during cutscenes, and the game crashes in the estate when I try to place the papers in the desk.

Does anyone know how to fix these problems?  Bioware has obviously given up, since they don't even acknowledge these issues.

I have uninstalled completely and reinstalled, multiple times.  With and without Awakenings.  Using 1.03 and 1.04.  Installed LS by downloading through the ingame and off my account.  With and without other DLC.  Nothing works.

Anyone have any answers?

Thank you.

Hard to give any advice without knowing your system's hardware specs, OS information, and what version of the game you have. Also, if you're running any mods.

No mods. Clean installs using only authorized DLC or no DLC.

Try reading my post for the game version I'm using.

My specs and OS aren't important because the rest of the DLCs and the game run fine. All drivers are up to date.

I'm just trying to find out if anyone has found a way to fix this problem and how they did it. I am willing to try just about anything that people say works before I file a claim with the Better Business Bureau, like everyone who has had these and similar problems should be doing. I didn't pay money to have problems and not get any support.

Selling out to EA was the absolute worst thing Bioware has EVER done, worse even than farming out Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 out to Obsidian. EA stopped caring about putting out quality games and supporting their products years ago and that philosophy spreads to every company they buy before long.

I'm rude and opinionated when I post because it keeps my topic from fading away because people will post like Moondoggie did. Nothing personal, just the way I've gotten most questions answered in the past. Eventually someone will read it who has some idea of a solution. On occasion I post and say dumb stuff, like asking what version I'm using when it is clearly stated, but 99.9% of the time I read and re-read what I'm commenting on so I don't ask a question that's already been answered.

Bioware used to be up there with Blizzard for quality. I should know, I've bought virtually every one of their games except for the MDK series and Warhammer Online. Look at all their old D&D games. Fantastic. Mass Effect. Fantastic. Then they get bought out by EA and quality drops. Uncounted bugs with Dragon Age, many made worse by patches, not fixed, or some not even acknowledged. Mass Effect 2. A decent game, but still a lot of problems. I realize it takes a lot of time and effort to make a game and make it well and there is release dates and so on and so forth, but releasing buggy games and not supporting them properly is a surefire way to stop making games.

And the way they've changed their outlook on DLC from Mass Effect. Their original plan was to make a lot of DLC to bridge the gap until Mass Effect 2 came out and release a good portion of it for free. Microsoft made them charge for it to put it on Xbox Live so that put the brakes on making more.

Now look at all the DLC they've released for Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2. None for free and not the same quality as the base game. I'm not opposed to them making money, since I've bought all the DLC for both games, but when the DLC isn't fit to be released and never fixed, that's when I have a problem.

How charmingly insufferable of you. That must take practice. So you don't want help, then?

You are aware they were working on DAO way before EA bought them aren't you? And you are aware none of the staff changed and actually grew so quality improved. There were lots of bugs with their older games too.

They released tons of free DLC for Mass Effect 2 and a free DLC with DAO and lots of freebies with DA2 and even more with the Signiture Edition In fact since they were bought by EA they have released ten times more freebies. Stop using fake claims to support your biased views.

So i take it this person is not here for help but is here to spread anti EA propaganda supported by unfounded claims.

Good advice. I spent too much time in the General Discussion Forum Wars this weekend, anyway....

Okay back to the OP.

I have exactly the same problem. I am runnng mods. I have not had any problems playing through all of DAO or any of the other DLCs and my system is up to date. Will post full info if necessary but I don't think system is the issue.

The only thing I will add is that my character does not appear in any cutscene that Marjolaine is in but does appear when I climb through the window at the Estate.

Oh...and I have reloaded Leliana's Song twice with the same result. Have also turned down all settings. It almost appears to be a problem with the cutscene that you are supposed to get after you plant the papers.

Typically in a situation like this, here's my suspects list... it's rather general, hence it's standard on this forum to include hardware and OS information:

1) Mods.  Just because they don't cause issues in one part of the game, that doesn't prove they'll work flawlessly with othe parts.  Compounding this is that some mods were created before patch 1.03 was released, which Leliann's Song requires (not to mention the subsequent patch 1.04).  So removing mods helps... for some, simply removing them from the "override" folder is enough.  However, if you installed a mod using the DAZIP/Updater function, it may be impossible to cleanly remove them without reinstalling the DLC or the game.  Obviously, I would suggest manually reinstalling the DLC first.

2) Video driver errors have been known to cause issues with missing heads in the past.  http://social.biowar...'bbc'></strong>

3) Overheating of the GPU or CPU can cause errors.  I believe this is unlikely but it's always possible.

4) It could be a purely system performance error.  Lowering graphics settings before the affected cutscenes might be a good test of this.

Am fully patched. All drivers up to date. Have NVIDIA 266.58 with GeForce 9800 GT.

All mods turned OFF except Bioware tagged ones. If this glitch occurs because of the Bioware add-ons, then there is nothing much either you or I can do about it.

Am running AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor 3.11 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM. Windows XP SP 3.

No overheating. Checked with PC Wizard.

Have tried changing resolution without success. Have tried tweaking NVIDIA settings with no success. Have lowered graphics settings. No success.

And I do not have missing heads. Just missing hair.

When you talk about "Override" folder, what are you referring to. There is no "Override" folder visible.

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion... let me clarify some terminology:  There is DLC (downloadable content)... that comes from Bioware.

Anything else... generally termed a "mod"... even if you got it from this site under "Projects"... is a 3rd party effort and not officially part of the game.  Examples of mods are those that change the look of the characters, add a storage chest to the main party camp (Origins), allow you to summon an extra dog, etc.

Most of these mods are installed in a folder called "override"... located in My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > packages > core

Now... if the error is happening consistantly, and you don't have any mods installed... then I would suggest manually reinstalling the DLC.

Good luck,

RI

Thanks RaenImrahl.

Found the Override directory but it is empty.

I have manually re-installed Leliana's Song. But a question and it may be a dumb one. Under "My Documents\\Dragon Age\\Add-Ins", can I manually delete the 3 directories dao_prc_lel, dao_prc_lel_dao, and dao_prc_lel_ep1 without messing anything up other than Leliana's Song?

It just seems to me that something is going on here that defies normal logic. The basic question is what can cause a character to NOT appear in cutscenes? Where does the program get the image that is supposed to be in the cutscene? Because logic says that the image is not where the program thinks it is supposed to be!

As far as no hair, I can live with that. Leliana looks a bit sinister without hair anyway. If that is possible for Leliana.

I'll take one more shot at this and if it can't be fixed, on to Dragon Age II.

I would suggest first simply reinstalling the DLC (and its associated "offer" file) as the instructions on the Dragon Age Wiki state. My thinking is something was corrupted... by reinstalling you'll be overwriting files with "clean" copies of everything.

To answer your question directly, I don't know if deleting those folders would have greater ramifications... but of course, you could move them someplace else, out of the Dragon Age directory, and then replace them if things go amiss.

I don't think the DLC of Lilianna's Song contains all of the data that's used for those adventures. Obviously the locations where the DLC takes place all make appearances in the main Origins game... but there are some cosmetic changes particular to the DLC. Same is true for Lil herself... I assume her body and face are the same ones used in Origins, although for the DLC she has a different hairstyle.

So I think, ultimately, something got changed, either through the interaction of mods and patch 1.04 or through some other, unknown hiccup. It's almost impossible to determine exactly is the cause... or more probably... what combination of factors are the cause.  If manually reinstalling the DLC doesn't work, then I suppose it's possible that other assets, those in the main game, got corrupted or made inaccessable.

The "nuclear" option also exists... backing up saved games and doing a complete uninstall/registry wipe/and reinstall of the game. However, given your comments, I can certainly understand why you'd rather just move on to DA2.

What really annoys me is that the cutscene where Leliana climbs through the window to enter the Estate is perfectly okay (she has hair) as she looks up the wall at the window. But when the cutscene changes to the party walking inside the Estate, she disappears again.

Wonder what happened to the good old days when developer reps actually visited the Forums and helped solve problems?

Dunno... but of course, many DA cutscenes are pre-rendered video files. So what you're seeing (with hair) is probably something that's not being rendered by your system.

The cut scene files are scattered in various folders and *.bik format. There are a couple of free video players out that that will read them... if you ever want to take an evening, pop some popcorn, etc.

You have any ideas how to fix my problem with Leliana's song, I can't talk / attack or do anything to start the quest to kill Bann Perrins guards. They don't attack me, I can't initiate dialogue, I even tried pickpocketing them. I have completed everything else I could in this section. Nothing happens.
I have already tried re-installing the game before for another problem. I'm running the "Ultimate Edition" for PC, no mods. I found one other person with the same problem on here, but no solution. Tried contacting EA game support, they told me to check here. (Thanks, really) When I asked for more information, I was supposed to be transferred to a supervisor, waited an hour, and got this "There are no advisors available to chat with you right now. Please try again later." I'm not a know-it-all but I'm afraid I have to agree that they haven't done a great job supporting this game, I've had nothing but problems with this one since the day I bought it. Posted Image
Would appreciate help,
Thanks
Kat

Kat: I would suggest reading the "Read First" thread pinned to the top of the forum first. More information would be helpful to figure out what is going on and you need a new thread as this issue is different from what is listed above.. I suspect the hair issue above was a function of the video driver. The newest Nvidia beta drivers have not played well with DAO at all.
