Why do you have to make my Hawke sound like a complete jerk when Merrill comes to the house in Hightown? At 100% rivalry and absolutely NO flirting with her how did she possibly think I was interested in her in more than a sisterly way? Hasn't anyone in the writing department heard of a gentle rejection?

Merrill knows I hate that she's a blood mage and that I'm worried she'll believe anything a demon will tell her and blindly unleash hell in Kirkwall. But, dammit!, she's so stinking nice that you can't help but want to protect her from herself. There has to be a way to fix this BEFORE she comes to the house and sticks me with two choices. One of YOU knows how to get out of this. Please help me and my Hawke to avoid beiing an ass to her.

You shouldn't be getting this conversation unless you flirt with her. And even if you do, there should be a "You're like a sister to me/ You're my friend." option that lets her down gently.

Okay, I asked for it as my FemHawke was flirting with both Merrill and Isabela up until the Act 2 Hawke estate scenes. I never saw the 'You're like a sister to me' line. Instead it was 'You could muck about with demons and blood magic all you like if it didn't endanger Kirkwall' or sleep with her and then tell her it was just a fling. Maybe it was because my Hawke had kept hold of the item she wanted and refused to give it to her?

Anyway, this is on a third playthrough and she never showed up before this. There wasn't any flirting the previous two times.  So I think that if anyone's getting her show up a heart has been selected sometime.

Yeah, I just checked the dialogue file. On the rivalry path, the let down is to tell her that you're worried her blood magic will endanger people. She's not happy about that, but it's not a, "No, I wouldn't sleep with you if you were the last woman in Thedas."

Perhaps - however, I've watched a playthrough where choosing only diplomatic or humorous options WITHOUT selecting any flirting options results in Merril being at the Hawke Estate.  Similar how to being diplomatic or humorous without triggering a Justice-outburst with Anders in the beginning leads to the (infamous) Flirt/Flirt/Kick kitten dialog choices.

If you are ever getting this scene with Merrill without actively selecting an option marked with a heart it is a bug. This is never supposed to happen.

Image IPB Uh, should I consider this sufficient for a bug report, or should I post it elsewhere?

I filed a bug on it this morning.
