Perhaps - however, I've watched a playthrough where choosing only diplomatic or humorous options WITHOUT selecting any flirting options results in Merril being at the Hawke Estate.  Similar how to being diplomatic or humorous without triggering a Justice-outburst with Anders in the beginning leads to the (infamous) Flirt/Flirt/Kick kitten dialog choices.

If you are ever getting this scene with Merrill without actively selecting an option marked with a heart it is a bug. This is never supposed to happen.

I thought I was forced to be a douchbag or be heterosexual.

Same here. Rather wished there was a 'Sorry, but I'm a lesbian' option at that moment.

Or even a 'Sorry, but I'm not looking for a clingy boyfriend right now because I have more pressing matters to think about' option.

In my playthroughs where I want a friendship with Anders without romancing him, I just ignore that conversation entirely now.

I have never gotten the sister lines either... when i flirted or when i didnt. I had her max rivalry once too and she still wanted to be more than friends.. it is hard to be mean, but i was determined to finish the game in my own head canon... so... i nxxed her hard, and felt guilty all nite lol

Maybe it's different for dudes, but sarcastic Hawkette flirted with him initially in that scene, he's like "No, that's a bad idea," and she's all "Okay, fair enough." Other flirt options showed up later, but I didn't pick them and didn't have a problem keeping him at friendly without him pressing the issue.

Image IPB Uh, should I consider this sufficient for a bug report, or should I post it elsewhere?

i was looking forward to having anders in da2, but after my 1st playthrough knowing what he's gonna do, i just wish we had the option of killing him the moment he/justice killed that apostate mage girl. after that i never bothered with him, except to get the deep roads map then left him where he was.

Anders in particular seems to have a lot of 'flirt' options. I had to put him down to get him to shut up about it. I mean, you should be able to navigate your way out of a conversation without knowing what's going to happen beforehand. I personally feel like more options are needed for my hawke, 3 is too few. Even shepard gets more than that. The interplay between some of the characters just doesn't come off right.

Choose an option that isn't the star.
